WORDPERFECT CORPORATION ANNOUNCES THE
RELEASE OF WORDPERFECT PRESENTATIONS 2.0 FOR WINDOWS
Support for TWAIN, OLE, Direct CD ROM Sound
Highlight Comprehensive Features List
OREM, Utah July 14, 1993 WordPerfect Corporation today
announced that WordPerfect Presentations 2.0 for Windows will be
released to distributors July 16, 1993. The product will be
available on reseller's shelves by the end of the month. Positioned
as the industry's most comprehensive presentation graphics product,
WordPerfect Presentations for Windows combines advanced
presentation, charting, drawing, text and painting tools with
support for TWAIN, OLE and direct CD ROM sound.
"WordPerfect Presentations introduces a best-of-class, all-in-
one solution to the Windows presentation graphics market," said
Alan Ashton, President & CEO, WordPerfect Corporation. "The breadth
and depth of features in this product make it easy for any user to
quickly create effective presentations, and demonstrates the
strength of our commitment to this market."
TWAIN Support, Paint Tools
Support for the TWAIN open industry interface enables users to
scan images directly into WordPerfect Presentations. The scanned
images can be edited pixel-by-pixel with the Bitmap Editor, and
then converted into vector images using the Autotrace feature. Any
scanner that is TWAIN-compliant may be used to scan images directly
into WordPerfect Presentations.
Scanner Bundle
Logitech's ScanMan Model 32 hand-held scanner will be bundled
in specially marked full retail packages of WordPerfect
Presentations for Windows for 90 days from the time that
WordPerfect Presentations ships or while supplies last. "This
bundle will enable users to take advantage of the scanner support
in WordPerfect Presentations without having to invest in a
separately sold scanner," said Shirley Chu, product marketing
director, WordPerfect Presentations.
QuickTutors
QuickTutors, designed and developed by Usability Sciences
Corporation, have been licensed for inclusion in WordPerfect
Presentations for Windows. These on-line tutorials offer
demonstrations on how to perform some of the most common tasks in
WordPerfect Presentations. QuickCards are also available for times
when users just need a quick reference card to refresh their
memories.
Sound Capabilities
WordPerfect Presentations supports direct CD ROM sound and is
the first to support the new Roland Audio Producer Card (RAP-10),
which enables users to combine and edit digital audio (WAV) and
MIDI sound files. More than 100 MIDI sound clips ship with
WordPerfect Presentations, and users can take advantage of the
product's digital audio support to do such things as record and
play back voice clips. Support for the RAP-10 will also allow users
to synchronize audio tracks in their presentations independent of
slide transitions.
Object Linking and Embedding
As an OLE server, WordPerfect Presentations lets users embed
charts, graphics or other elements into Windows 3.1 client
applications. As an OLE client, WordPerfect Presentations supports
OLE server applications such as Microsoft Video for Windows. Users
can double click on linked or embedded objects to launch the
application used to create them.
Charting Tools
The unique split-screen chart editor allows users to edit
information in their outline or spreadsheet at the top of the
screen, and have those changes reflected in their chart on the
bottom of the screen. A wide variety of 3-D chart types are
supported, including bar, surface, pie, hi-lo, scatter and area,
and perspective can be altered on any of these. Other charts types
include organizational, tables and bullet. Users can import
spreadsheet files from Lotus 1-2-3, Excel, Quattro Pro and
PlanPerfect.
Users have control over all design aspects (color, tick marks,
legends, etc.) and can enter data in a spreadsheet-like data entry
screen. The Data Statistics feature automatically summarizes row
and column data, and the Chart Gallery allows users to scroll
through and view a wide variety of chart types. In addition, an
organizational chart editor allows users to quickly create various
organization charts from an outline.
The multiple document interface (MDI) in WordPerfect
Presentations for Windows lets users have nine documents open at a
time on the screen, and allows them to copy information between
multiple chart and bitmap editors open in those documents.
"Chart editors, bitmap editors, on-screen tutorials and many
other features combine to give users the power and ease-of-use they
need," said Shirley Chu. "Nothing makes giving a presentation
easier than WordPerfect Presentations."
Drawing Tools
WordPerfect Presentations contains the most comprehensive set
of drawing tools in the presentation graphics market, and includes
tools such as Bezier curves, smart arrows, closed curves,
transparent shadows, regular polygons, freehand, circular arcs,
crosshair and ruler. Objects will snap to horizontal and vertical
alignment guides when they are sized or moved within a certain
distance of the guides. Users can also take advantage of an
extensive set of editing tools to do such things as edit curves,
scale elements with handles, use gradients, combine two or more
drawing items, and blend objects in both color and shape. Over
1,000 editable clip art images ship with WordPerfect Presentations.
The product also supports more than 16 million colors and lets
users create limitless custom palettes of 256 colors.
Presentation Tools
Unique to WordPerfect Presentations for Windows, the new Slide
List view lists slide titles, advances, transitions, speaker notes,
sound, controls and templates associated with individual slides in
a slide show. A Column Manager allows users to sort information by
"click and drag" in the slide list, and with a single click on the
right mouse button users can customize slide attributes for each
slide in their presentation.
The Slide Outliner presents users with an on-screen notepad to
help them organize a fresh set of ideas or retrieve outlines
created in WordPerfect. Outline information is automatically
arranged into slides. The Slide Sorter view allows users to see and
arrange slides by showing them in thumbnail view on screen.
rearrange them by simply clicking and dragging.
A Master Gallery of more than 60 professionally designed
master backgrounds is also available to users. Each background
contains a set of matching templates, giving users an idea of what
various slides (charts, text, bullet points) will look like.
Speaker notes and handouts can also generated by WordPerfect
Presentations.
The flow of on-screen slide shows can be controlled with the
use of more than 30 slide transitions, including such effects as,
diagonals, overlays, jigsaws and screen pours, as well as cascading
bullets that give control over the on-screen display of
information. Any key on the keyboard can also be assigned to a
slide as a "Go To" key, allowing users to branch to non-consecutive
slides during a slide show.
Text Tools
WordPerfect Presentations lets users contour text to a path,
and provides them with access to Windows fonts and WordPerfect
characters, a speller, and filled text gradients.
Other Features
WordPerfect Presentations for Windows uses the same file
format for slide shows and charts as the DOS version, and any file
created in WordPerfect can be used to create text, organizational
charts or slide shows.
Floating tool palettes and attribute palettes can be placed
anywhere on the screen by clicking and dragging them. The posters
feature allows users to have a drawing extend over multiple pages;
drawings can cover an 6X6 page square or up to 36 pages. A
configurable Button Bar lets users place frequently-used features
on the Button Bar, and users can correct mistakes with the undo and
redo features.
