HELP.DOT is a WinWord document template that facilitates the creation of
Windows help files.
What's New? Since the last update (2/13/93) several important improvements
and additions have been made.
1. Context strings are processed automatically.
Each help file project's context strings are stored in a separate disk file.
When you have finished creating the outline of your help file, a macro will
automatically create a new topic for each context string, complete with the
correct footnote notation.
When you open your .RTF file, the macro checks for the existence of the
related file containing the context strings. If the file exists, the Toolbar
is modified to permit automatic or manual processing of the context strings.
The days of unresolved context strings are over!
2. Faster file processing
All auxiliary files are now processed through the File I/O system
rather than through WinWord documents. The whole operation is much faster
and cleaner - the windows don't blink and jump around anymore.
3. Expanded help file
Several dozen more help topics were added to the help file. Sections now
include automatic and manual processing of unresolved context strings, tips
on the basic strategy for creating help files, more links between topics for
easier navigation.
Included is the .RTF file for the HELP.HLP file. If you are like most of us,
you learn by doing, a hands on thing. Browsing through this .RTF file will
give you plenty of examples you can use to learn how to create your own
help files.
4. Custom Toolbar for VGA and 8514/a Modes
The previous version only had a custom toolbar for SVGA (8514/a) mode. Several
people requested a VGA custom toolbar. Done.
5. Thoroughly Debugged.
Several people reported bugs with the previous version which have been fixed. This
version isn't perfect and I'm sure that other bugs will appear; but by and large
they've all been stomped out.
