============================
Purpose
-------
TabPro is a utility for AutoCAD release 11 or release 12 that
imports Lotus 123, Symphony, and Excel spreadsheet files into an
AutoCAD drawing as a table of text entities, and if desired, a
cell grid to enclose the table. TabPro runs from within the
AutoCAD drawing editor and will read Lotus WKS, WK1, and WRK
files as well as Excel XLS files directly.
The program reads not only the data from the spreadsheet file,
but also calculated formula values, formatting information,
column widths, cell formats, and cell alignment. TabPro is an ADS
application for AutoCAD 386 and AutoCAD for Windows. TabPro works
on any IBM PC compatible computer capable of running AutoCAD
release 12.
Installation
------------
Install the TabPro files from the distribution diskette archive
file to any subdirectory accessible by AutoCAD. You can have
AutoCAD automatically load TabPro by adding the full path in the
ACAD.ADS file (usually found in the SUPPORT directory).
You may also use the APPLOAD utility to add TABPRO.EXP to the
APPLOAD menu.
TabPro version 2.0 Documentation page 2
Running TabPro
--------------
First load the ADS program:
Command: (XLOAD"TABPRO")
You may also add TABPRO to your ACAD.ADS file to load TabPro
automatically each time that you start AutoCAD. Or you can use
the AutoCAD command ACADAPP to load Tabpro.
Then execute...
Command: TabPro
Release 12 Proteus (Windowed) interface:
----------------------------------------
TabPro Dialogue
Filename (required)
Enter the filename of a Lotus 123 or Excel file, or select the
File Button to invoke the file dialogue box. TabPro supports
Lotus WRK, WKS, WK1, and WK3 file formats as well as all versions
of Excel XLS files.
Range
Enter the range to import or select the Range button to pick a
Names range from the worksheet file. The range must be in the
form <sheet>:<column><row>..<sheet>:<column><row>. The <sheet>
specifier is only necessary if you wish to extract data from a
sheet other that sheet "A" in a Lotus 123 WK3 file.
Examples:
A1..E25 column A row 1 to column E row 25
B:C11..B:G34 sheet B column A row 1 to column E row 25
* all cells (a blank range also selects all)
MY_RANGE named range
Text Layer
Select the AutoCAD layer on which to place text entities or
select the Layers button to invoke the AutoCAD "DDLMODES"
dialogue box where you can create a new layer or modify layer
settings. If you make a different layer current while in the
DDLMODES dialogue, that layer then becomes the text layer.
TabPro version 2.0 Documentation page 3
Text Style
Select the AutoCAD text style to use for text entities or select
the Styles button to create a new text style. The default text
style is the current AutoCAD style in effect when you first start
TabPro.
Text Height
Enter the text height in drawing units. The default value is
taken from the current style if the style contains a text height,
or the AutoCAD system variable TEXTSIZE. The entire table is
scaled based on this value.
Row Scale Factor
The row scale factor defines the spacing between rows in terms of
the text height. This factor is multiplied by the text height to
determine the row spacing. A value of 1.0 is will allow adjacent
text rows to just touch bottom to top. The default value is 2.00.
Column Offset Factor
The column offset factor defines the horizontal spacing (in
characters) between the start or end of the text and the cell
boundary. The default value is 1.00.
Grid
Select the grid button to select grid linetype and border line
weight. You can also adjust the density of linetypes using
AutoCAD's LTSCALE system variable.
Grid Layer
Select the AutoCAD layer on which to place grid line entities, or
select the Layers button to invoke the AutoCAD "DDLMODES"
dialogue box where you can create a new layer or modify layer
settings.
Style Creation Dialogue
Select a text style to create either from the pick list or the
icon menu. You may page through the styles by selecting the
TabPro version 2.0 Documentation page 4
<Next> and <Previous> buttons. Once a style is selected the style
parameters must be specified to completely define the text
style. Any existing text style of the same name will be
overwritten.
> Height: Text height in drawing units
> Width Factor: Width multiplier
> Obliquing Angle: Text slant angle
> Backwards: Mirror text in X plane
> Upside down Mirror text in Y plane

Release 11 command line interface:
----------------------------------
Follow the prompts:
Draw/Parms/Exit/<All>:
Draw: Draws the previously loaded table in the drawing. You
are prompted for the table location, and text size (if
the current style has a text size of 0.0), and if you
wish a grid drawn. The file ACAD.123, created in the
previous step, is read and the table drawn.
Parms Display / change TabPro variables
RowScale/CharOffset/LayerGrid/GridType/BorderType/Exit/<Exit>:
RowScaleFactor: Centers / spacing between rows. A value of
2.0 (the default) will space rows at 2.0 times text height
(determined by the AutoCAD text style active, or the height
entered by the user).
CharOffsetFactor: Offset of the first and last character(s)
from the left and right margins. A value of 1.0 (the
default) will make cell margins 1.0 X text character width
(determined by the AutoCAD text style active).
LayerGrid: Layer where the grid and border will be drawn.
(Default GRID) If the layer does not exist, it will be
created.
GridType: Enter an integer between 0 and 3 to select the
linetype of grid to be drawn:
0 - No grid
1 - Dotted line (DOT2 linetype)
2 - Dashed line (DASHED2 linetype)
3 - solid line (CONTINUOUS linetype)
TabPro version 2.0 Documentation page 5
BorderType: Enter an integer between 0 and 3 to select the
type of border to be drawn around the table:
0 - No Border
1 - Thin Border
2 - Medium Border
3 - Thick Border
Exit: Exits TabPro with no action.
Text Height <0.20>:
Enter the text height for all entities in the table. The
default height for the current test style is used if no
value is entered.
Enter worksheet filename[]:
Enter any valid DOS filename including
Drive:\path\filename.ext. If no file extension is specified
then ".WK1" is appended.
Enter worksheet range[]:
Enter either a worksheet range in the usual form (eg
BA34..CL63) or any range name defined in the worksheet.
Enter an asterisk "*" to specify the entire worksheet.
Table Insertion point:
Pick a point where for the upper left corner of the table.
The border, grid and table are then drawn. The values entered are
saved for the drawing session so you may enter "U" to undo and
easily re-insert that table if the results are not as expected.
Limits
------
TabPro can not read SQZ files or Excel workbooks. If you use a
different spreadsheet program (eg Quattro) then save your file as
a WK1 or XLS file, most spreadsheets (and many other programs)
provide can save in these file formats.
TabPro version 2.0 Documentation page 6
TabPro can not recalculate your spreadsheet. If you use manual
recalculation then be sure to recalculate prior to saving so that
formula values will be correctly displayed.
If you insert the entire worksheet, the grid may be larger than
expected. TabPro extracts the worksheet dimensions from the Lotus
or Excel file before reading the data, and can include blank
formatted cells.
Suggestions
-----------
* While developing your table in Lotus 123 or Excel make sure
that text does not overlap into the next cell. Set column
widths to a value that is just wider than the values and
text. Use "Comma" or "Dollars" formats to make large values
easier to read.
* You can use other data sources (eg dBase/Paradox/Quattro,
etc) by saving in one of the TabPro supported file formats.
Most database managers and other applications can save to a
Lotus or Excel file format.
* Use Lotus/Excel names to define area ranges for the cell
ranges that you wish to later import into AutoCAD.
* You can use TabPro to transfer attribute information from
Generic CADD to AutoCAD. In CADD 5.0, export attribute data
as a WK1 format file; then use TabPro to read the file into
AutoCAD as a text table.

Shareware
---------
This version of TabPro is NOT public domain or free software, but
is being distributed as "shareware". You may try it out to see if
it is useful for you. If you wish to continue to use TabPro you
must register. Registered users are provided with a password to
remove the opening delay and with support for one year.
The program in the form of the original archived file only may be
freely distributed, but not sold (except under license, or for a
nominal copying or disk fee).
Non-registered users of this software are granted a limited 30
day license to make an evaluation copy for trial use for the
purpose of determining whether TabPro is suitable for their
TabPro version 2.0 Documentation page 8
needs. At the end of this trial period, you may either register
your copy, or discontinue using TabPro.
All users are granted a limited license to copy TabPro only for
the trial use of others and subject to the above limitations.
This license does NOT include distribution or copying of this
software for use:
1. In connection with any other product or service.
2. For general use within a company or institution.
3. For distribution in modified form; i.e., the file containing
this license information MUST be included, along with the
full TabPro documentation.
Operators of electronic bulletin board systems (Sysops) are
encouraged to post TabProxx.ZIP for downloading by their users,
as long as these conditions are met.
Registration Information
------------------------
A TabPro registration licenses you to use the product on a
regular basis. Individual license cost for TabPro is $50
including a diskette with the latest version of TabPro and the
printed manual. Registration also entitles you to telephone
support and notification of updates and new products. Print file
ORDER.DOC and mail or FAX the form to the address above. You can
also place an order by telephone or through Compuserve (GO
SWREG).
Educational institutions, full-time students and BBS sysops can
apply a 50% discount. PLEASE include your educational institution
letterhead (with your title), or a photocopy of your most recent
registration slip, or the name and number of your BBS.
Definition of Shareware
-----------------------
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details -- some request registration while others
require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
TabPro version 2.0 Documentation page 9
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.
Disclaimer - Agreement
----------------------
Users of TabPro must accept this disclaimer of warranty: "TabPro
is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties,
expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the
warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The
author assumes no liability for damages, direct or consequential,
which may result from the use of TabPro."
TabPro is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
continue to develop new products. If you find this program
useful and find that you are using TabPro and continue to use
TabPro after a reasonable trial period, you must make a
registration payment of $50 to Mountain Software. The $50
registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like
a book. An example is that this software may be used by any
number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
being used at one location while it's being used at another. Just
as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same
time.
Commercial users of TabPro must register and pay for their copies
of TabPro within 30 days of first use or their license is
withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting
Mountain Software.
TabPro version 2.0 Documentation page 10
Anyone distributing TabPro for any kind of remuneration must
first contact Mountain Software at the address below for
authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted
to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its
guidelines for shareware distributors, and such distributors may
begin offering TabPro immediately (However Mountain Software must
still be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date
with the latest version of TabPro.).
You are encouraged to pass a copy of TabPro along to your friends
for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if
they find that they can use it.

Professionals (ASP). ASP wants to make sure that the shareware
principle works for you. If you are unable to resolve a
shareware-related problem with an ASP member by contacting the
