Hello everyone:
We are now into our 11th year of providing this valuable
service to the personal computer community in Ontario. Now
that I have retired from IBM hopefully I can improve the
service some more. Now let me give credit to those who took
the time to write or communicate with me. Here they are:
- Cecil, the professor, and I are still trading diskettes
with our respective spreadsheets. We have been doing this
for several years.
- John wished me good luck with my IBM stock investment.
- Ron sent me a short note on the back of his business card
saying that he thinks that he has narrowed down his problem
to his version of Lotus 123. I hope Ron has overcome his
difficulties.
- I had a long distance call with Pat in the 519 area code.
- I was in contact with a Chris on Dovercourt Rd.
- Bernard in Thornhill asked for a copy of the diskette.
- John in Whitby asked me to bring my used equipment to the
next meeting of his computer club when they held their
annual swap meet. Sorry I could not make it, John.
- Of course I must acknowledge my good friend Stan in Alberta
who gave me a list of names and addresses. Stan, no one
responded. It appears that the western part of the country
has no interest in using an income tax spreadsheet.
- John in Kingston wrote a brief note on a yellow sticky-back
note.
- Rupert in Ottawa killed two birds with one cheque by paying
for his neighbour and himself.
- Joe in Pickering wrote a letter to describe a problem that
he had with the <enter> feature in my spreadsheet.
Apparently this feature does not convert over for use on
the Microsoft Excell program. I wonder if others are
having the same problem.
- Tom wrote to let me know that he wants to receive future
diskettes in the 3 1/2 inch size.
- Adrian was kind enough to write about what he thought was
an error in the spreadsheet.
- Pat wrote, "Thanks for the disc. Once again it has saved me
hours of figuring."
- Don, who says he is an environmental engineer, supports me
in recycling used diskettes to run this spreadsheet
service.
- Richard Morochov of the Toronto Star says that he could not
give me a private review of my spreadsheet because he
receives for evaluation from 10 to 30 software packages
each week.
- Bernard of Teal Technology Services says "Your software
continues to be helpful."
- Ron thanked me for the fast service in sending him the new
diskette before the end of December.
- Richard upgraded to QPRO 4.0. He says that the spreadsheet
ran just fine.
- One of my lady users informed my about a name change.
- W.G.C. in Hamilton thanked me "for eliminating the drudgery
of all those calculations.
- Norm wrote for a copy of the latest spreadsheet. He says,
"keep up the good work!"
- Bien tells me that he has updated his laptop system.
- Mark phone up to tell me that he completed the H&R Block
course and then again to tell me about his wife giving
birth to twins.
I hope the above provided some interest to you. It is
really encouraging to receive all kinds of letters as
follows:
- of encouragement and support for this type of software
- questions on spreadsheet logic
- suggestions for improvement
Recently I added a 3.5 inch diskette drive to my
computer. Consequently I can now offer my spreadsheet on
either 3.5 or 5.25 inch diskettes. Since the 5.25 inch
diskettes are the least expensive, I will send you the 5.25
inch diskette unless you specify 3.5 inch diskette. O.K.?
Some of you may have concluded that I have been using
recycled diskettes. You are quite right. For several years
now I have received gifts of large quantities of used
diskettes from supporting users who work for companies that
do not re-use previously used diskettes. Consequently I have
been formatting all diskettes before shipping them to, you,
my registered users. However, if you should have a problem
with any diskette, please give me a chance to correct the
problem. O.K?
I also wish to thank all of you who made phone calls. If
you call when I am not around, please leave your name and
phone number with whomever answers the phone. I do return
all calls. (even the long distance ones). I wish everyone
health and prosperity in 1994. Thanks again for your
support.
Yours truly,
Melvyn N. Hall
