  4.                 SERIES : THE PRIEST AND HIS GARMENTS.  LESSON 3.

  6. THE QUALIFICATIONS of the Priesthood were very high, for it was a
  7. High Calling.  Following is a list of qualifications that had to be met by the
  8. Priest.  Each one can be a applied spiritually to the Priesthood of believers
  9. today.  How do you measure up?!
  10.  
  11. 1.   Age 30 years old Num.4:3,23,30,35,47 - the number of consecration and
  12.      maturity.
  13.  
  14.      Lev.21.
  15.  
  16. 2.   None to be defiled for the dead among his people (v.1), speaks of total
  17.      dedication and separation. 11 Cor.6:17, Luke 9:59-60.
  18.  
  19. 3.   Not to defile Himself (v.4) - not to be more interested in secular things
  20.      than duty to God.
  21.  
  22. 4.   Not to profane Himself (v.4) - become unholy, unconsecrated, revert back
  23.      to lawlessness.
  24.  
  25. 5.   Baldness, shaving corners of beard, cutting flesh forbidden (v.5).
  26.      Deut.14:1 - these were heathen customs and they were forbidden to keep
  27.      heathen customs or to look like the world.
  28.  
  29. 6.   Not to profane the Name of God (v.6) - not to treat it lightly,
  30.      meaningless, disrespect his name by wrong actions of unbelief and sin.
  31.  
  32. 7.   Not to take a wife who is a whore or divorced(v.7) - strict marriage
  33.      laws, no union with lesser level.
  34.  
  35. 8.   Take a wife in her virginity (v.13) she is to be pure, holy walking in
  36.      the light.
  37.  
  38. 9.   Of his own people to wife (v.14) like kind, living spiritually at his
  39.      level.  Zacharias' wife, Elizabeth was of the line of Aaron.
  40.  
  41. 10.  Must be able to rule his own household (v.9).
  42.  
  43. 11.  Not to uncover his head nor rend his garments(v.10) - our mind to always
  44.      be covered with the helmet of salvation, and not to rend our spiritual
  45.      garments.
  46.  
  47. 12.  Not to defile himself for his mother or father (v.11) - real dis-
  48.      cipleship, putting the service of Christ above family ties.  Lev.10:7.
  49.  
  50. 13.  Not to go out of the Sanctuary (v.12) - constant awareness of His
  51.      presence.
  52.  
  53.      Note.     If any physical defect or infirmity was found in them, they
  54.                were disqualified.  All these physical defects are typical of
  55.                spiritual defects.
  56.  
  57. 14.  A blind man (v.18) - no vision, no spiritual perception of God's will,
  58.      word, present day truth etc.
  59.  
  60. 15.  Lame (v.18) - unbalanced, unable to walk properly and in order.
  61.  
  62. 16   Flat nose (v.18) - sense of smell, discernment that is flat.  Can't
  63.      discern between good and evil.
  64.  
  65. 17.  Superfluous (v.18) - more than needed, excessive flesh.
  66.  
  67. 18.  Broken-footed (v.19) unfaithfulness, unreliability, Prov.25:19
  68.  
  69. 19.  Broken-handed (v.19) unable to serve, maybe because of fear, timidity,
  70.      inferiority complex etc.
  71.  
  72. 20.  Crookback (v.20) -Lack of backbone, compromiser, unable to up straight
  73.      for his convictions, cowers.
  74.  
  75. 21.  Dwarf (v.20) has never grown up or gone on to maturity, still
  76.      underdeveloped.
  77.  
  78. 22.  Blemish in the eye (v.20). Sees, but not with clear distinct vision.
  79.                something else in his sight blurring true vision.
  80.  
  81. 23.  Scurvy (v.20) - an itch caused by lack of fresh food.
  82.  
  83. 24.  Scabbed (v.20) - a sore that has not healed.  Unable to get over past
  84.      differences, bitter experiences etc., unforgiving spirit, unable to
  85.      forget past.

  87. 25.  Broken stones (v.20) - inability to reproduce, unfruitfulness.
