  3. XII. The "Word of Knowledge."

  5. A.  Definition
  6.  
  7.      The "word of knowledge" is the supernatural revelation to man
  8.      of some detail of the knowledge of God.  It is the impartation
  9.      of facts and information which are humanly impossible to know. 
  10.      It is not knowledge that comes through natural ability,
  11.      observation, study, education or experience.  It is knowledge
  12.      that surpasses the senses of man.  It goes beyond knowledge
  13.      that is obtainable by any natural means.  This is the nature
  14.      of all the "gifts of the Spirit." They are not expressions of
  15.      man's ability, but are said to be the "manifestations of the
  16.      Spirit." (1 Corinthians 12:7)
  17.  
  18.      It is knowledge which is a portion of God's knowledge. 1
  19.      Corinthians 13:9-10 "For we know in part, and we prophecy in
  20.      part, but when that which is perfect is come, then that which
  21.      is in pant will be done away."

  23. B.  What kind of knowledge does this involve?
  24.  
  25.      And, it may be added, for what purpose is it revealed?
  26.  
  27.      It may be knowledge of the thought of men's hearts - Luke
  28.      5:22; 6:8; 7:36-50; 13:16; Matthew 3:7-12, etc.  It may
  29.      involve men's plans, such as Ahab in l Kings 21:17-20, or
  30.      motives, as in Luke 6:8.
  31.  
  32.      It may be knowledge of facts of the past, present or future.
  33.      John 1:1-5 was a revelation of the preincarnate Christ: in
  34.      John 11:11-14 that Lazarus had already died; in Acts 11:27-30
  35.      the prophet Agabus saw the coming famine.
  36.  
  37.      It may reveal the whereabouts of men- 1 Samuel 10:14-24: Acts
  38.      9:10 -18; 10:10 16,.18.

  40.      Or warn of coming danger - 2 Kings 6:9: Acts 20: 28-30; etc.

  42.      It may expose hypocrisy - 2 Kings 5:20-27:or deception 1 Kings
  43.      14; Acts 5:1-10.

  56.      teaching.

  84.      note the "wood of wisdom" and supernatural knowledge
  85.      intertwined.) To "discern" means to perceive, distinguish or
  86.      differentiate.  The dividing line between a human and divine
  87.      operation may be obscure to some believers, but one with the
  88.      faculty of spiritual discernment sees clearly.
