- What is ULAn
ULAn is short for the *U*ltimate *L*og *An*alyzer. It is
a utility that will sort through your FrontDoor system log and
pull out information about outbound calls. This release logs
outbound calls, and can log all calls, or be restricted by
domestic long distance only, local only, and can search for a
specified string. This is stored in a filename called
ULAN.DAT, or can be stored in any file in the registered
version.
The ULAN.DAT will be a copy of your FrontDoor log without
all the extra stuff not pertaining to outbound calls. All
information you log about outbound calls will be included,
unless you specify certain parameters which restrict what is
logged. This version can also create a list of calls and files
transferred if you so specify.
- Legal Notice
Neither the author, Philip Spevak, nor any other party
involved in the creation of this program makes any guarantees
as to its functionality. I have tested this program and am
satisfied with the results it has produced. However, there is
no way to be sure it will work in all environments. Although
I hope it won't, if ULAn formats your hard drive, brings about
a change in the balance of power in the hemisphere, or
promotes tooth decay, through this disclaimer, I can not be
held responsible. If you find that ULAn does not work
properly, please don't hesitate, though, to let me know what
the problem is. Be sure to tell me what kind of setup you are
running, and perhaps I can fix it up in the next release.
- Registration
This version of ULAn is being released as shareware.
This means that you are entitled to use and try out the
program, but after a reasonable time, should register it. I
have no way of forcing you to do so, and won't pretend that I
do, but registration will entitle you to some newer features,
which won't be released as soon in the demo version, and some
which perhaps will never be released in that version, such as
being able to select the output file name, and phone number
search strings. It will also eliminate a few annoying beeps
in the program. Registration for ULAn is $9.
To register, fill out the registration form included in
the archive, and send it back to me. I'll have your key sent
to you as soon as I can fire up my registration program.

- How to use ULAn
ULAn is very simple to run. Typing ULAN by itself will
cause ULAn to use C:\FD\FD.LOG as your logfile. It will
create ULAN.DAT in the current directory. ULAN.DAT will
contain the outbound call information you specify.
** Note: Do not attempt to run ULAn on a log FrontDoor has
open. ULAn will exit with a nasty message saying it
can't open the file.
For this reason, or perhaps because your directories are
configured differently than mine, ULAn accepts a number of
command line parameters. The first is a filename, with full
path. ULAn will use this filename instead of C:\FD\FD.LOG if
it is specified.
The other parameters are:
/A This parameter will tell ULAN to append rather
than overwrite the ULAN.DAT file. Without
this parameter, ULAN will remove its data file
each time it is run.
{+} Only available in the registered version.
/K The /K parameter is used to have ULAN
automagically erase (kill) your FrontDoor log
when it's done with it. ULAN does not keep
track of what it has already processed, so
if this parameter is not used, ULAN might
relog the same information next time unless
you manually delete the file.
{+} Only available in the registered version.
/LD This will cause ULAN to search for the '1-'
string on a phone number, and only log calls
using that. This is useful for creating a
"long distance phone bill" out of your
FrontDoor log. Support for international
calls will be added in a future version.
/LIST Tells ULAn to use the list format on outbound
calls. It will only log BBS name, node number
dialed, phone number dialed, and baud rate or
modem result if no connection. Under each
successful connect will be the files
transferred, their sizes and cps ratings. At
the end of each session will be a session time
and cost.

/LOCAL This parameter will cause ULAn to log only
those calls not beginning with the '1-'string.
This will create a local only calling log.
/NOAKA This parameter will not log a node's alternate
AKAs.
/NOINFO This paramter will supress logging of ALL
remote site information to the ULAN.DAT.
{+} Only available in the registered version.
/NOFLAGS Do not log remote flags in ULAN.DAT.
/NOPHONE Do not log phone number in ULAN.DAT.
/NOSITE Do not log remote location in ULAN.DAT.
/NOSYSOP Do not log sysop name in ULAN.DAT.
/OUTPUT=<file> This parameter allows you to change the
default output file from ULAN.DAT to the
filename you specify.
{+} Only available in the registered version.
/PHONE=<string> This parameter will tell ULAn to search for a
specified <string> and log only those calls
containing that string in the phone number.
For example, /PHONE=5643 would log all calls
to Storm Watch OLS, and any other system with
those four numbers in the phone number.
{+} Only available in the registered version.
/SUCCESS This parameter tells ULAN to only log those
calls in which a successful connection is
established. NO CARRIER, NO ANSWER, NO
DIALTONE, BUSY, and VOICE will not be logged.
{+} Only available in the registered version.

Thanks go out to Alan Jurison (sysop of Ham-Net BBS
[315-682-1824]) for suggesting and eventually testing (and
testing, and testing, and testing...) this program.
Throughout this documentation, I made several references
to FrontDoor, and with good reason - this program is made for
use with FrontDoor. FrontDoor is the product of the genius of
Joaquim Homrighausen, and is copyrighted by him.
