The Drawing Area is where you edit the cu rent picture. You
can type any combination of standard keyboard characters or
|Function Keys|. Characters wi l a pear with the cu rent
default |Colors| at the position of the cursor. The cursor can
be moved with the a row keys or a mouse.

Help: Main Menu Fastkey: <Escape>
Main Menu options can be selected by moving the highlight
bar with the up and down a row keys. You can get help on the
highlighted item by pre sing <Shift+F1>. Pre s <Enter> to
select the highlighted item. You can also select an item by
pre sing the function key that a pears next to the
selection. <Escape> closes the menu.
You can also select an item without opening the menu by
pre sing <Shift> in combination with the selection's
function key. For example, to select the |File Menu|, you
could pre s <Shift+F2>.

Help: Using Help Fastkey: <Shift+F1>
This is the Text-Draw help system. Help is activated by
pre sing <Shift+F1> from anywhere within Text-draw, or by
selecting Help from the |Main Menu|. Help provides information
about what you were doing when help was activated.
To get help on other topics, move the selection bar to any
of the highlighted help items using the a row keys and pre s
<Enter>. Pre s <Backspace> to return to the previous help
topic. Pre s <Escape> to close help.

Help: File Menu Fastkey: <Shift+F2>
The File Menu provides a ce s to the functions a sociated
with loading and saving Text-Draw files.
These functions include |File Load|, |File New|, |File Save|, and
|File Save As|.
Note that each of these function can also be a ce sed
directly (without opening the File Menu) using their
respective Fastkeys.

Help: Colors Fastkey: <Shift+F3>
Selects the colors used by the scr en editing functions.
To change the default colors, select Set Colors from the
|Main Menu|. Use the up and down a row keys to change the
foreground color, use the PgUp and PgDn keys to change the
background color.
Pre s <Enter> to a cept the colors you have selected, or
pre s <Escape> to exit and cancel any changes.

Help: Function Keys Fastkey: <Shift+F4>
In a dition to the standard keyboard characters, Text-Draw
a lows you to draw a ditional characters using the 10
function keys. The Function Keys co mand lets you ch ose
from a number of di ferent character sets. When you ch ose
this option, use the up and down a row keys until the
characters at the bo tom of the scr en represent the
character set you wish to work with. You can then pre s
<Enter> to select this set, or pre s <Escape> to exit this
function and cancel any changes.

Help: Block Menu Fastkey: <Shift+F5>
The Block Menu provides a ce s to the functions a sociated
with copying, moving, and clearing sections of the Text-Draw
scr en.
These functions include |Block Copy|, |Block Move|, |Block Clear|,
and |Block Fill|.
Note that each of these functions can also be a ce sed
directly (without opening the Block Menu) using their
respective Fastkeys.

Help: Frame Type Fastkey: <Shift+F6>
A lows you to select from one of 5 di ferent frame styles to
be used in the |Frame| and |Snake| functions. In a dition, one
of the frames styles is user-defined and can be edited using
the |Frame Edit| function.
To select from one of the frame styles, use the left and
right a row keys to highlight the desired style. Pre s
<Enter> to select the highlighted frame, or pre s <Escape>
to exit this function without any changes. Whenever you save
a picture to disk, the selected frame type is also saved.

Help: Frame Edit
A lows you to edit the user-defined frame type.
To do this, pre s <F6> from within the |Frame Type| function.
Use the up and down a row keys to move the cursor to any of
the frame characters. You can type in any character or any
of the |Function Keys|, and the e fects wi l be shown to the
right in the sample frame. Pre s <Enter> to a cept the
changes, pre s <Escape> to cancel any changes you have made.
Whenever you save a picture to disk, the user-defined frame
type is also saved.

Help: Frame Fastkey: <Shift+F7>
Text-Draw makes it easy to draw boxes on the scr en. The
style of the boxes are determined by the cu rent |Frame Type|.
To draw a box, position the cursor at a corner of where you
want the box to a pear and ch ose Frame from the |Main Menu|.
Next, move the cursor to the o posite corner of the box. The
box wi l be drawn as the cursor is moved. The box is always
drawn using the default |Colors|. Pre s <Enter> to a cept
what you have drawn, pre s <Escape> to cancel and restore
the scr en to its previous state.

Help: Snake Fastkey: <Shift+F8>
The Snake co mand a lows you to draw lines using the cu rent
|Frame Type|.
To use this function, move the cursor to where you want the
line to start, then select Snake from the |Main Menu|. Next,
use the a row keys to move the cursor. A line wi l be drawn
fo lowing the movement of the cursor, using the default
|Colors|. Pre s <Enter> to a cept what you have drawn, pre s
<Escape> to cancel and restore the scr en to its previous
state.

Help: Clear Scr en Fastkey: <Shift+F9>
Clears the entire scr en using the cu rent default |Colors|.
Since this co mand destroys everything on the scr en, a
me sage window a pears and asks you to confirm that this is
your intentions. Select Yes to clear the scr en, select No
or pre s <Escape> to cancel.
Use the |File New| co mand if you want to create a new
picture.

Help: Quit Fastkey: <Shift+F10>
Ends a Text-Draw se sion.
To exit Text-Draw and return to the operating system, select
Quit from the |Main Menu|. If the cu rent scr en has changed
since the last |File Save|, a me sage window wi l a pear
notifying you that the scr en has changed and ask you if you
want to save it. Select Yes to save the cu rent scr en and
exit, select No to exit without saving the scr en, pre s
<Escape> to cancel this function and return Text-Draw.

Help: File Load Fastkey: <Ctrl+L>
Loads a new Text-Draw file from the cu rent directory.
To use this co mand, select Load from the |File Menu|. Use the
Up, Down, PgUp, PgDn, Home and End keys to highlight the
file you wish to load. Pre s <Enter> to load the highlighted
file, pre s <Escape> to cancel. If you ch ose to load a file
and the cu rent picture has changed, you' l be asked if you
want to save the cu rent file before loading the new one.
Use the |File New| co mand to create a new picture.

Help: File New Fastkey: <Ctrl+N>
Use this co mand to create a new Text-Draw picture.
To use this co mand, select New from the |File Menu|. If you
ch ose to create a new file and the cu rent picture has
changed, you' l be asked if you want to save the cu rent
picture before creating a new one. Note that the scr en wi l
be cleared to black, but the cu rent |Colors|, |Frame Type|,
and |Function keys| wi l sti l be in e fect.
Use the |File Load| co mand to load a new Text-Draw file from
the cu rent directory.

Help: File Save Fastkey: <Ctrl+S>
Saves the cu rent picture to disk.
To save the cu rent picture, select Save from the |File Menu|.
If the cu rent picture has not yet b en named, you wi l be
prompted for a filename. Note: If you ch ose |Quit| from the
|Main Menu| and the cu rent picture has changed, you wi l
automatica ly be asked if you want to save it.
Use the |File Save As| co mand to save an already named file
with a di ferent name, or to save a file in |ANSI| or
|Text-Only| format.

Help: File Save As Fastkey: <Ctrl+A>
Lets you specify what name to save the cu rent file as. This
co mand can also be used to save files in |ANSI| and |Text-Only|
format.
To use this co mand, ch ose Save As from the |File Menu|. You
can then type in a new filename. Pre s <Enter> to save using
the new name, pre s <Escape> to cancel. If the filename
already exists, you wi l be asked if you wish to overwrite
it. Use the |File Save| co mand to save an already named file
to disk.

Help: ANSI file format
Pre s <Alt+A> from the |File Save As| function to save the
cu rent file in ANSI format. ANSI files contain special
escape sequences and can be viewed from DOS using the "TYPE"
co mand when the ANSI.SYS driver is loaded.
Text-Draw a pends an ".ANS" extension to ANSI files if the
given filename doesn't contain an extension. If you wish to
specify the extension, avoid the ".TD" extension since this
wi l overwrite the original Text-Draw file. Important:
Text-Draw ca not read files saved in ANSI format.

Help: Text-Only file format
Pre s <Alt+T> from the |File Save As| function to save the
cu rent file in Text-Only format. Text-Only files don't
contain any color information and can be viewed from DOS and
most text editors.
Text-Draw a pends a ".TXT" extension to Text-Only files if
the given filename doesn't contain an extension. If you wish
to specify the extension, avoid the ".TD" extension since
this wi l overwrite the original Text-Draw file. Important:
Text-Draw ca not read files saved in Text-Only format.

Help: Block Copy Fastkey: <Ctrl+C>
Copies a section of the scr en to another location.
To use this function, position the cursor at a corner of the
area you want to copy and select Copy from the |Block Menu|.
Then use the a row keys to mark the area you want to copy
and pre s <Enter>. Next, use the a row keys to position the
selected block at the new location. Pre s <Enter> to a cept
the new location, pre s <Escape> at any time to cancel and
restore the scr en to its previous state. Use the |Block Move|
function to move a section of the scr en.

Help: Block Move Fastkey: <Ctrl+M>
Moves a section of the scr en to another location.
To use this function, position the cursor at a corner of the
area you want to move and select Move from the |Block Menu|.
Then use the a row keys to mark the area you want to move
and pre s <Enter>. Next, use the a row keys to position the
selected block at the new location. Pre s <Enter> to a cept
the new location, pre s <Escape> at any time to cancel and
restore the scr en to its previous state. Use the |Block Copy|
function to copy a section of the scr en.

Help: Block Clear Fastkey: <Ctrl+R>
This function works the same as the |Clear Screen| co mand
except that you specify the portion of the scr en to be
cleared. The area is cleared using the cu rent |Colors|.
Position the cursor at one corner of the area to be cleared,
then select the Clear co mand from the |Block Menu|. Next, use
the a row keys to mark the area to be cleared. When the area
you want is marked, pre s <Enter> to clear it, pre s
<Escape> at any time to cancel without change.

Help: Block Fi l Fastkey: <Ctrl+F>
Fi ls an area of the scr en with a character, the cu rent
color, or both.
Position the cursor at a corner of the area to be fi led and
select the Fi l co mand from the |Block Menu|. Then use the
a row keys to mark the desired fi l area and pre s <Enter>.
Next, select the type of fi l by pre sing 'C', 'R' or 'B'
(<Enter> has the same e fect as 'B'). If you select 'C' or
'B', you wi l n ed to type the fi l character. It can be a
standard character or one of the |Function Keys|. Pre s
<Escape> to cancel.
