---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to ROTIT Version 1.0. ROTIT is a display file rotating utility
for bulletin board system operators. It may have other uses, but that
is up to your imagination.
WHAT IT SHOULD DO ......
ROTIT reads one or more configuration files that contain a source
directory, a destination file name, and a list of file names that should
be rotated into the destination file slot. ROTIT will choose the next
file name in the list. It then looks in the source directory for files
with the correct name and either the extention, BBS, ANS, SCR, SRC, or
RIP. It then copies the files to the destination name. ROTIT keeps track
of which file it used last and it will move to the next file in the list
the next time it is run. You can send multiple configuration file names
on the command line, so you can rotate all you bulletins, menus,
newsfiles etc in one command.
When ROTIT reads a configuration file, it will be looking for a
destination file name like C:\BBS\DISPLAY\BULLET12. The list of files
may contain a file name like MONDAY. ROTIT will then look in the source
directory for any files with the name MONDAY.BBS, MONDAY.ANS,
MONDAY.SCR, MONDAY.SRC, MONDAY.RIP. It will copy these to
C:\BBS\DISPLAY\BULLET12.BBS, C:\BBS\DISPLAY\BULLET12.ANS. etc ...
If it can not find a match, like say there was no file named MONDAY.RIP,
it wil delete any C:\BBS\DISPLAY\BULLET12.RIP file so that your users
do not get a mismatch in the bulletins.
MAKING IT WORK
The configuration file ..
You may have as many configuration files as you wish. They may be in
any directory you wish. It is easiest if they are in the same directory
as ROTIT.EXE. The configuration file format is very simple. Line one
is the "Source Directory". This is where ROTIT will look for the files
to copy. Line two is the "Destination File". This is where ROTIT will
copy to, ie the bulletin to be rotated. Lines three and thereafter are
the files that you want to rotate into the Destination File.
Config file format :
Line 1 : Source Directory
Line 2 : Destination File Path and Name (without extention)
Line 3 - 368 : Sounce File Name (without path or extention)
Example :
C:\TRIBBS\BULLETS
C:\TRIBBS\DISPLAY\BULLET12
MONDAY
TUESDAY
WEDS
THURS
FRIDAY
SAT
SUN
[...]
The source dircetory (C:\TRIBBS\BULLETS) should contain any combination
of files with the names, MONDAY.BBS, MONDAY.ANS, MONDAY.RIP,
MONDAY.SRC, TUESDAY.BBS, TUESDAY.RIP, WEDS.BBS, WED.ANS, etc.... They
will be copied to C:\TRIBBS\DISPLAY\BULLET12.BBS, [.ANS, .SRC, .RIP].
You may have up to 366 files in the rotation. You may add to the list
at any time. ROTIT will rotate the new file in the order of the config
file.
The command line ..
The command line consists of ROTIT followed by a list of the
configuration files that you want it to act on.
Example:
ROTIT bullet12.cfg mainmenu.cfg news.cfg exitscrn.cfg
You may also send a command lind argument of INFO to display the version
number of the program.
