QReader 3.2 Copyright 1991-1993 Yandell Computer Services
These are instructions for upgrading to QReader version 3.2. If you
are installing QReader for the first time, disregard this file. First
determine the version of QReader in use, then use the appropriate
instructions below.
VERSION 1.0 and 2.0 to VERSION 3.2
----------------------------------
Upgrading to version 3.2 from version 1.0 or 2.0 is very easy and is
handled almost entirely automatically by QRSETUP.EXE.
PRINT THIS FILE and use it as a check list. It is barely two printed
pages in length. READ FEATURES.NEW.
(1) Back-up the current QReader 1.0 or 2.0 configurations, especially
all of the *.CNF and *.DAT files.
(2) Extract the contents of QREAD32.ZIP into your QReader directory.
Do not over-write any of the SELECT.*, *.CNF, or *.DAT files. Use
your own judgment before over-writing files such as MENU, HELP, etc.
If you have customized these text files you will not want to use the
ones found in QREAD32.ZIP.
(3) Run QRSETUP /UPDATE - the /UPDATE switch places QRSETUP into a
special mode for converting your *.CNF files for version 3.2 use.
(4) Answer the following question appropriately:
* All .CNF files should be backed up before updating. Continue (Y/N)?
If you answer no, QRSETUP will end, giving you the opportunity to do
what should have been done in step #1 !!!
(5) If QRSETUP detects version 1.0 *.CNF files, the following question
will appear (once):
* Select the BBS software QReader is running with?
(1) PCBoard 14.5 and later
(2) Wildcat 3.0 and later
(3) Other using generic DOOR.SYS
The answer you give will be placed in the new QREADER.@@@ config file.
If QRSETUP detects version 2.0 *.CNF files the above question will not
be asked since the information is already present in QReader 2.0.
(MISCELLANEOUS)
---------------
IMPORTANT! QRSETUP will use the FIRST .CNF file it sees in the current
directory to create QREADER.@@@. The following parameters are placed
in the new QREADER.@@@ file from this .CNF file:
- The BBS Name.
- Your QReader registration number.
- Disable (G)oodbye (y/n).
- Swap mode for QReader during shells.
- BBS type (QReader 2.0 - see STEP #5 above for QReader 1.0).
NOTE: If the first .CNF file found is SELECT.CNF, QRSETUP will use the
next .CNF file found in the current directory to create QREADER.@@@.

VERSION 1.0 to 3.2 SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
---------------------------------------
The following instructions are ONLY for updating existing QReader 1.0
installations to QReader 3.2.
You will need to reflect the new (Z)ippy command in the MENU and HELP
files, and also remove references to the (O)perator page function in
these files. If you are using the default MENU and HELP files from
QReader version 1.0, simply use the files contained in QREAD32.ZIP.
You should also delete any BYE (BYEG) files, as they are no longer
used in QReader 3.2.
Using the new built-in editor for text *.DAT data files in QRSETUP,
you may wish to provide some sort of brief description which will be
displayed when doing a Zippy search (see QREADER.DOC for additional
information).
VERSION 1.0 and 2.0 TO VERSION 3.2 NOTE
---------------------------------------
The automated upgrade provided by QRSETUP is a "bare bones" upgrade.
Please refer to QREADER.DOC and FEATURES.NEW for more information and
instructions which may be used for "fine tuning" your upgrade.
VERSION 3.0 and 3.1 to VERSION 3.2
----------------------------------
Read FEATURES.NEW. The following files are needed to upgrade from
QReader 3.0/3.1 to ver. 3.2 - QREADER.EXE, QRSETUP.EXE, QRSETUP.HLP.
If you are using the default MENU, HELLO and HELP* files from previous
versions of QReader, you may want to use the new ones enclosed with
QREAD32.ZIP as they have been slightly 'modernized'.
