Qwik-Kill v. 1.00
By Paul Taylor
PURPOSE:
This is a utility for PCBoard 14.x or 15.0. The purpose of this utility
is to clear out the files that are in your file area sub-directories that
are not in your PCBoard directory files. (Therefore, no user will know they
exist and thus can not download them - Hence, a waste of Hard Drive Space!)
These usually get there by accident or if you delete lines individually
instead of using the F9 key to delete the file and it's description.
Incidentally, for some people, this utility is not needed. Due to a
small bug (?) in PCBoard's PCBFiler program, it does not always delete all
your files. Anyone running a large PCBoard on a network may have noticed
this problem, as it tends to arise mostly on very large systems. Perhaps
it is just a networking problem. Either way, this small utility solves that
problem.
USING QWIK-KILL:
All that you need to do to use QWIK-KILL is this:
Step 1: Run your PCBFiler program and create an ANALYSIS.RPT file.
When at the PCBFiler Main Menu, select Option D - Scan for Duplicate
or Missing Files. You can then have it create the file ANALYSIS.RPT
which contains a complete listing of all the duplicate files from all
your file areas, the files that are listed in the DIR file, but are
not actually where they should be on the hard drive, and, most
importantly, the files that are on the hard drive but NOT listed in
the DIR file. Unless you are in the habit of placing files other
than ones that should be downloadable to your general users into
your download path, you should come up with a list of files that
are downloadable by your users, just your users don't know it.
Usually these are files that have been placed into the wrong directory
on accident OR they are files that you have deleted from your DIR
file without actually deleting them from your hard drive. ONLY THE
FILES LISTED UNDER THE TITLE "Files found on Disk but missing from DIR
files" WILL BE DELETED. If you find some in that list you want to
keep, TAKE THEM OFF THE LIST!
*NOTE* : Before you run this program for the first time, it would
be a good idea to check the ANALYSIS.RPT file yourself, in any text
file editor. Who KNOWS what important files you could have stuffed
away into some of those file areas???
Step 2 : Run QWIK-KILL.
QWIK-KILL will read the ANALYSIS.RPT file and delete each and every
file that PCBFiler lists as being in your download path but not
actually available for download. (NOT IN DIR FILES)
Other Comments:
Usually, the way this file is used is by paging through your file area
listings in PCBFiler and manually deleting the descriptions of files you
no longer want on-line. (Old Files, Duplicates, Large Useless Files, etc.)
This file will be especially useful to sysops of LARGE BBS Systems, as
(At least with LANTASTIC) PCBoards Delete function in PCBFiler doesn't
always work. I haven't personally verified this, but a friend who runs
a large file board on a Lantastic network (with multiple servers) wanted
this program awefully bad because he had been deleting each file from the
ANALYSIS.RPT file by hand for some time.
Closing Kudos:
Thanks very much to The Doctor, the sysop who wanted to me write this
file. Without him, I wouldn't have known there was even a need for this
utility.
Blatant Begging for Cash:
(Well, not quite that bad, but hey, it's a living!).....
If you find this program very useful and a great time saver, please
help support the shareware concept by sending $5 dollars to:

Even if you don't like the program, but need a custom program written,
have an idea for a door, or just any programming job, send me a letter or
call my BBS system. I will write small custom programs for very reasonable
rates (usually 20-30 dollars - Source NOT included). The prices for jobs
vary, depending heavily on just what it is. I specialize in anything
dealing in the on-line world.
If you want to see a small sampling of what I can do, check out the
Ultimate File Request Door (UFRD100A.ZIP). It was originally done as
a custom program, and later changed a little and released as a shareware
door. I am currently working on an Online Game tentatively called
Fleet Action. (A Space Strategy War Game, along the lines of Imperium)
Anyhow - To get in contact with me you can write the above address or
you can just call my system to get in touch with me quicker:
