  3. SCO Online Support - Technical Library Supplements
  4.  
  5. As you know, the SCO Online Support system provides various support and
  6. educational materials for interactive access via our BBS systems, and
  7. anonymous uucp and ftp.  Most of these files reside in directories under
  8. /usr/spool/uucppublic.  
  9.  
  10. Europeans may find the mirror site in England more acccessible:

  13. The directories online are:
  14.  
  15.    SLS - SCO Support Level Supplements (fixits, updates, etc.)
  16.    EFS - Extended Feature Supplements (improved product components)
  17.    Supplements - SCO product maintenance supplements
  18.    Games - unsupported, recreational games and amusing material
  19.    Term - updated termcap and terminfo files
  20.    TLS - SCO Technical Library Supplements, unsupported
  21.  
  22. Each of these directories has a README or "info" file that describes
  23. the material therein, and they are fairly self explanatory. 
  24. This article describes the Technical Library Supplements.
  25.  
  26. The files in TLS are offered for experimental or educational use.  They
  27. are NOT supported by SCO Support department.  In some cases, these are
  28. components or updates to existing SCO Software; other material may be
  29. educational or supplementary documentation.  We do not intend this to be
  30. yet another archive of freely available software that has been compiled
  31. for SCO.  That function is well served by other archive sites (thanks!).
  32. The material here is primarily that which SCO uniquely can provide, or
  33. which is not readily available elsewhere.
  34.  
  35. In general you will need a licensed SCO operating system to use these
  36. files, and any executables here are provided to you under the terms of
  37. your SCO software license or other applicable licenses.  You will
  38. also need a good understanding of how to use the SCO system,
  39. and a certain amount of daredevil, thrillseeking appreciation for
  40. dangerous and astounding results when you deploy these early release
  41. software components.

  43. For a list of available supplements, see the file "info" or "file.list"
  44. in /usr/spool/uucppublic/TLS on sosco or scolon (our machine names).
  45. The file.list is appended below.

  47. For those of you that have accounts with us at the California site, the
  48. files can be downloaded interactively from the SCO Online Support BBS.
  49. Follow the menus in the "software toolchest" selection.  We support
  50. kermit, Xmodem, Ymodem and Zmodem.
  51.  
  52. These files are also accessible via anonymous uucp (see below), and
  53. by anonymous ftp.
  54.

  93. Generally, we name the TLS distribution files like this:
  94.   
  95.        tlsxxx.1   = binary floppy image, volume 1
  96.        tlsxxx.1.Z = same thing, but compressed
  97.        tlsxxx.ltr = cover letter, ascii file
  98.        tlsxxx.c   = source code file
  99.        tlsxxx.doc.Z = documentation and other propoganda
  100.        tlsxxx.tar.Z = tar archive file, compressed.
  101.        tlsxxx.tar   = tar archive file                 
  102.        <something else> = miscellaneous documentation, etc.
  103.   
  104. There are a few gaps in the numbering, due to TLSs not yet ready
  105. and other assorted reasons.
  106.  
  107. Note that we do not compress all floppy images.  Some SCO distributions
  108. have files that are already compressed and to compress again is
  109. counterproductive.  Some TLS files may just be tar files, not floppy
  110. images.  In some cases the uucp g protocol may raise alarms when used
  111. with certain modems that perform data compression.  If you get
  112. uucp alarms, try turning of data compression in your modem, if it is
  113. used.

  115. Again: TLS materials are NOT supported as SCO products; rather,
  116. they are provided "as-is" to knowledgeable users as a courtesy.  Please
  117. do not contact my friends in the Support department about these
  118. materials.  All use of these materials is the sole responsibility of the
  119. user.  Back up your system before trying new  TLSs.  Be careful.

  146. compress and uncompress utilities are included with SCO XENIX releases 2.3.0
