MEAL-MASTER COMPATIBILITY WITH PRODIGY (TM) SERVICE
Beginning with release 6.20 of Meal-Master, a special export
format is available for users of the PRODIGY (tm) and other
online services.
The special export format is selected on the Maintenance menu,
using the "Export Recipe Format" selection. Select the
"SPECIAL: BB" setting.
Using this format, and a utility program named Pro-Util, you can
upload your recipes directly to Prodigy (tm) for other users.
With or without Pro-Util, you can also download such recipes that
others have posted, and import them directly into Meal-Master
without any retyping. For more information on Pro-Util contact
the author, Pete Royston, Prodigy (tm) ID DBRK81A.
In general, to "download" a recipe from a Prodigy (tm) message to
your Meal-Master database, the following steps are involved:
1. Logon to Prodigy, and "jump" to the Food and Wine forum.
2. When you find a recipe in Meal-Master format that you
wish to capture, you will need to "Copy" this recipe to a
DOS file.
If you are using only Prodigy, then you need to access
Prodigy's "Tools" menu, and set your "Copy Options" for
"Send to File". Then select the "COPY" option while
viewing the recipe you wish to download, and specify a
file name for the recipe to be placed into.
If you are using a utility program like Pro-Util, you
will need to refer to the manual for that program and
follow the instructions for downloading a message into a
file.
Repeat this step for each recipe you want to download.
3. Logoff of Prodigy.
4. Start Meal-Master, select "U Utilities" then "I Import".
Enter the name of the file into which you downloaded
recipes in step 2. Be sure to use the full DOS path to
locate the file where it was placed in step 2.
6. Set the Import Mode and Options to reflect your
preferences, then press "S Start Importing" to import the
recipes.
In general, to "upload" a recipe from your database into a
Prodigy message, the following steps are involved:
1. Start Meal-Master, and use the Search menu to display the
recipe title(s) you want to upload.
2. Export each recipe to a separate file. You can either
highlight each recipe, press "E", and specify a filename
or you can Mark the desired recipes then use the Export
function on the Utilities menu to export all the marked
recipes at one time. Meal-Master will automatically
create separate files for each recipe if you specify a
name that ends with a numeric extension, like
"Transfer.001"; in this case, the first recipe would get
file extension 001, the second 002, and so forth.
3. Load the Prodigy Utility program of your choice (ProUtil,
ProMaster, etc.), load Prodigy, and logon to the service.
Jump to the Food & Wine forum, and choose the topic of
your choice.
4. Select "Write a Public Message", and select a topic area.
Then enter the title of the recipe, prefixed with "Z-MM"
so that others will know it is a recipe in Meal-Master
format. If you are sending the recipe to a particular
individual, enter their Prodigy ID, or leave the ID blank
and the recipe will be addressed to "All" forum members.
Position the cursor inside the message box. If you want
to add a short note that will appear above the recipe,
type it here before going to step 5.
5. Follow the instructions with your Utility program for
"uploading" a note. This will usually involve pressing
some key combination, then specifying the name of the
file you want uploaded.
If your Utility asks if you want to "ignore carriage
returns", answer "No". The Meal-Master format must
include the carriage controls to avoid being "rearranged"
during the upload process.
After the recipe has been uploaded into the note, you may
add more text after the recipe footer if you wish, and
sign your name if desired. Then select "OK" to send your
note.
These instructions are correct at the time of writing (12/1/93),
but Prodigy (tm) occassionally changes commands on the service
and the procedure may be somewhat different when you read this.
If you have problems or questions, consult the Prodigy (tm) Food
and Wine forum for current instructions.
