  6. LUP (pronounced "loop") is a file utility program.  Its
  7. strength is in browsing and comparing disk directories and
  8. [.ZIP] archive files.  LUP presently supports only [.ZIP]
  9. archives however support for other archive file types can be
  10. added if there is sufficient demand.

  12. Browsing the contents of [.ZIP] files with LUP is just like
  13. browsing regular DOS directories.  In fact, the directory of
  14. a [.ZIP] file looks just like an extension of the DOS
  15. subdirectory tree.  This extension also applies to
  16. subdirectories of the [.ZIP] file and to other [.ZIP] files
  17. in the [.ZIP] file, i.e. nested [.ZIP] files, etc.!  Move
  18. the cursor to a text file and press <Enter> and you are
  19. looking at its contents, even if it is in a multiply nested
  20. [.ZIP] file.  LUP's ability to browse inside of [.ZIP]
  21. archives without extracting those files in a seperate step
  22. makes for easy browsing of large [.ZIP] file collections
  23. like those in CD-ROM libraries.

  25. Also LUP can display more than one directory or [.ZIP]
  26. archive at the same time.  Unlike many other programs, which
  27. display each directory in a seperate screen window, LUP
  28. displays them in a single window.  If two files with the
  29. same name appear identical in two different directories then
  30. their display occupies a single line, allowing more files to
  31. be fit on a screen.  Files which do not appear identical are
  32. displayed on seperate lines in a way which emphasizes their
  33. differences such as length and time stamp.  This makes it
  34. easy to detect new, changed, or deleted files.  This feature
  35. is especially useful when comparing related groups of files,
  36. such as a directory and its backup copy, or two versions of
  37. the same software package.  When you move from one
  38. subdirectory to another LUP attempts the move from each
  39. subdirectory being displayed so that related files are
  40. automaticly displayed together.

  42. LUP has other miscellaneous file management functions such
  43. as file and directory deletion, copying, etc.

  45. Hardware Requirements :  IBM PC compatible, 400Kb of disk
  46. space, 512Kb of RAM.

  48. Other Requirements : DOS version 3.0 or later, PKUNZIP for
  49. browsing [.ZIP] archives.
