* The LENA PROGRAM SET *
LENA (Linear Electronic Network Analysis) is a program for analyzing
electronic circuits' frequency domain in voltage response to stimuli
and in impedance in any of a maximum of 56 nodes. Each circuit model
may contain up to 204 branches. Input/output is in clear electronic
terms, a minimum of computer jargon, and includes scaling letters and
value names. LENA provides tabulation or graph simulation on screen or
with a printer. Branch types include single components, L or C with Q,
dependent current sources, and macromodels of transformers, transmission
lines, bipolar transistors and operational amplifiers. Extensive error-
checking is done with clear-language error messages. On-line Help
screens are available for Main commands and circuit types.
LENA is directly compatible with LINEA (released August 1993) except
lacking the repetitive waveform stimulus as generated by WAVESPEC
(released concurrently with LINEA).
All EXE files will work in PCs having 80x86 CPUs, any ASCII character
set printer, any display type. For color display, root directory should
specify ANSI.SYS as a Device. LENA needs only 142 KBytes maximum
contiguous free RAM.
LENA itself is supplied in two versions: 'S' for Standard, no
numeric co-processor; 'N' for Numeric co-processor. A numeric co-
processor is highly recommended since it can shorten analysis/solution
time by as much as a factor of 8 in complex circuits. Each version is
compiled from the same source code and operation is identical. Having
two selectable versions keeps the final .EXE size small.
A short Configuration program checks certain characteristics of your
computer system and generates the necessary LENA.CFG file; neither
LENA version supplied will operate without this initial Configuration.
The LENA.CFG file is not supplied and must be generated by each user.
Supplied files:
LENAMANL.TXT - Text file, description/instruction for LENA program.
LENACFG.EXE - Configuration program, LENA.CFG file generator.
LENAS.EXE - Standard/non-coprocessor version executable.
LENAN.EXE - Numeric coprocessor version executable.
LENAMAIN.HLP - On-line Help file for LENA Main commands.
LENACKT.HLP - On-line Help file for LENA circuit model types.
LENAREG.TXT - Text file for LENA Registry
SINGSHOW.LIN - Circuit file example, all single branches.
TRANSFRM.LIN - Circuit file for transformer macromodel circuit.
TLINE.LIN - Circuit file for transmission-line macromodel.
BIPOLAR.LIN - Circuit file for transistor macromodel circuit.
OPAMP.LIN - Circuit file for operational amplifier macromodel in a
Sallen-Key low-pass filter.
PHASER.LIN - Circuit file, audio phase-shift network for a
phasing-method SSB generator.
PHASER7.LNA - Solution file for PHASER circuit, node 7.
RES100K.LIN - 100 KHz parallel-resonant circuit example.
README.1ST - This text.
LE_APX_A.TXT - Appendix text on LENA data file structure.
LE_APX_B.TXT - Appendix text on use of example circuit PHASER.
README.1ST, pg. 1 of 2
.
LE_APX_C.TXT - Appendix text on Configuring LENA, use of LENACFG file.
LE_APX_D.TXT - Appendix text, history of LINEA - LENA, other CAE.
LE_APX_E.TXT - Appendix text, comparison ofLENA with other programs;
transferring circuits to/from SPICE net-lists.
LENACMND.LST - One-page text file, list of Main Command words.
CIRCTYPE.LST - One-page text file, list of circuit model Types.
CPUID.EXE - CPU and/or numeric coprocessor identifying program by
Intel Corporation.
FILE_ID.DIZ - Short text description of Program Set for BBSs.
LENACFG must be run first. Answering the few questions in that program
will enable the configuration file, LENA.CFG, to be generated. The next
step is to rename LENAS or LENAN into the final LENA.EXE program; LENAS
and LENAN can then be stored on floppy disks as a back-up. If the
numeric coprocessor version (LENAN) is used in a system without numeric
coprocessor, the computer will 'hang.' The Standard version (LENAS)
will operate with/without a numeric coprocessor.
Note: LENACFG does not change any existing files, will only read
certain parameters of the computer system; the only file it creates is
LENA.CFG.
Appendices are made separate text files since they are more for one-time
use or for reference. LENAMANL.TXT is the manual for LENA operation.
If desired, the appendix sections may be attached to LENAMANL through
any text editor. All text files are in ASCII characters and are
formatted for direct printer output.
These programs were developed on a 386SX-20 with an Intel 387SX numeric
coprocessor using Microsoft FORTRAN 5.1 under MS DOS 6.2 and have been
tested on other 386 SX/DX and 486DX computers. No guarantee is given for
MS DOS versions less than 3.3 or non-Microsoft operating systems.
The LENA program set is SHAREWARE. It is not free, but it may be tried
and examined for a period of 21 days without cost or obligation. Use
beyond 21 days obligates the user to Register their version with the
author. Please print out LENAREG.TXT for Registry details.
LENAMANL.TXT should be printed out for a complete explanation of all the
many features, commands, and outputs of the LENA Program Set. LENAMANL
is formatted for 8.5 x 11 inch paper, 10 characters per inch horizontal,
6 lines per inch vertical, ASCII character set, 5-character left margin,
no form-feed used. There are 49 print pages including the title page.
