File Feed .54
by Tony Nations
Sept. 24, 1993
Background
*****************************************************************************
I began this project with my own needs in mind. I needed a program to
create a filelist which would be passed to other programs. I occasionally
use a bidirectional file transfer protocol called HS/Link. I used Telix
for a while but never seemed as though I wanted to register it so then I
ran across a neat little comm program called Ripterm 1.53. This is Free-
Ware and is a very neat package. One problem arose with the switch, there
was not a good way to setup for an external protocol which could use a long
list of files to transfer. I came to the conclusion that I would make up
for this loss myself and after a few days of toying around with TP 5.5, I
created the program which you have now.
Information
******************************************************************************
I use Feed in a batch file which I can activate as an external program
inside Ripterm. I usually put Feed as the first program in the batch and
switch to the directory with the file which you need added to the filelist in
Feed. Feed allows you to tag files thoughout your directories and save the
path and filename of each file tagged to a filelist. It allows you to save
the filelist to a certain directory each time run or allows you to change to
the directory to save it to. I've used this little utility with PKZip, HS/Link,
del, and several other utilities. I also see a use with a BBS in moving
files from directory to directory.
This is my first offering as Shareware and believe ther may be a wide use
for File Feed. I only ask a small donation of $10 for using the program.
With the donation I'll send you a personalized copy of the program and a
serial number. I'll also send you new utilities of mine when I release them.
Make checks payable to Tony Nations. My address is as follows:

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. Thanks!
Instructions
****************************************************************************
Here comes the part you've been waiting for! (g). This is the portion that
I personally dreaded doing but occasionally there comes a time when I'll even
look through a DOC file so here goes.
Starting
-------------------
To start Feed simply type
FEED and then enter
Simple enough. The first thing you'll see in the intro screen (Program Name,
Version Number, and of course the programmer). After this the main menu is
displayed and accessable. There are six menu choices. I'll list these as
separate pieces of the puzzle.
1. Change Directory
This option allows you to switch between the directories as the option
implies. Once this option is chosen you shall see a list of directories of
which you can reach. You can move up or down the directory tree by entering
the number of the directory to which you want move to. The (.) is the directory
itself. The (..) is the directory just above the one you are viewing or the
parent directory of the one your in. Any other selection moves you one step
down the tree. Entering a (0) exits this option.
2. Choose Files
As the name reads you are allowed to choose the files to be added to the
filelist. Once chosen you are asked to enter a file name or extension to
be chosen among or enter for any file. At the moment this selection will dis-
play only about 80 entries. To choose a file enter the number preceeding the
file name and the file will be highlighted. As before a (0) also allows you
to exit.
3. View Filelist
With this option you will see the files which have already been added to the
filelist. The display shows the full path name for each file. This helps you
keep track of what you've done so far.
4. Remove File
Use this option to delete unwanted names from the filelist (such as mistakes
or overlooks). After choosing this option you have two options. 1.) enter
number to be removes from filelist or 2.) enter 0 to quit back to main menu.
5. Save Options
Option five puts you in the Save Options Menu. See below.
0.
Exits program. Prompt asks to end program--N to continue any other key to
exit.
Save Options
************
After choosing option (5) from the main menu, the next menu you see is the
save options or file options. There are four options to choose. The next
few paragraphs list these options in detail.
1. Change Directory
This option is the same as in the main menu. It allows you to change
directory to the position where you want the filelist saved.
2. Save Filelist
With this option you are prompted for a filename to be used for the file-
list. This option just saves the filelist to the current directory so use
option (1) to change to the specific directory (if needed).
3. Use Config To Save
This option was suggested by one of my friends (who was one of the betas).
This option saves the filelist to a certain directory each time used. After
choosing this option for the first time you are prompted for a directory in
which to save a config file for this option. The directory chosen needs to
be in the path. The format is as follows:
C:\dos\<enter>
or what drive and directory you need
The next prompt asks for the directory to save the filelist each time it
is used. This makes this option "sticky" as a friend like to say! The
format for the directory name is:
C:\ripterm\<enter>
or what directory you need
Now every time oyu use this option you will always have the filelist saved
to the same directory. You will still be prompted for a file name or just
hit enter to proceed without changing the filename. If the filelist exists
you are prompted whether to append to that file or overwrite. To Append to
the filelist press Y at the prompt or to overwrite hit N. After the file-
list is saved then you are returned to the main menu.
4. Exit to Main Menu
This option is as it reads. It returns you to the main menu.
