  543.                Introduction
  544.
  545.                    Sqed/32 is a Fidonet compatible message editor for
  546.                    IBM OS/2 2.1.
  547.
  548.
  549.                    This program is still a beta. Version 1.0, however,
  550.                    is expected very soon.
  551.
  552.
  553.
  554.
  555.                    This documentation is in beta, too. As Jörg-Stefan is
  556.                    creating new features very fast, it is very hard to
  557.                    keep this documentation up to date. I compiled this
  558.                    English version during the last two weeks and was not
  559.                    able to spend enough time on the translation. Please
  560.                    excuse all mistakes and flaws. I will keep working on
  561.                    it and should have a better version ready by mid
  562.                    January 1994.

  743.
  744.                Installing Sqed/32
  745.
  746.                Since you are reading  this section of the  documentation
  747.                you either are  one of  the persons who  really read  the
  748.                documentation before trying  to install  the program,  or
  749.                you experienced difficulties installing Sqed/32. (By  the
  750.                way, the first case appears to be quit improbable)
  751.
  752.                This program is really easy to install. Just follow these
  753.                steps:
  754.
  755.                1) Create  a  directory  just  for  Sqed/32  (not  really
  756.                   necessary but recommended !).
  757.
  758.                2) Now unarchive the Sqed/32 package into this directory.
  759.                   However,  since  you  are  reading  this  manual   you
  760.                   obviously already unarchived the file. Therefore  move
  761.                   all Sqed/32 files to this directory.
  762.
  763.                3) Sqed/32 requires  a  file called  SQED.DLL  where  all
  764.                   language definitions  for windows,  dialogs and  menus
  765.                   are defined. The package  should contain at least  two
  766.                   language files,  DEUTSCH.DLL and  ENGLISH.DLL . Simply
  767.                   rename the desired language  file to SQED.DLL.  Remove
  768.                   the other language files if you want, you do not  need
  769.                   them anymore.
  770.
  771.                4) Start Sqed/32.  The first  time you  start Sqed/32  it
  772.                   will open the Settings notebook and ask for your name,
  773.                   node  adress  and  path  to  your  squish.cfg.  Please
  774.                   continue with section "Configurating Sqed/32" on  page
  775.                   15 for more details on the Settings notebook. You need
  776.                   a correct SQUISH.CFG  since Sqed/32 will get  a lot of
  777.                   information out of  this file. Sqed/32  will not  work
  778.                   without it !
  779.
  780.
  781.                Sqed/32 should now be ready for work ! Have fun !
  782.
  783.
  784.                Sqed/32 keeps data in its own INI files which are located
  785.                in the Sqed/32 directory as well as in the OS2.INI file.
  786.
  787.                If you  install  a  new version  of  Sqed/32  or  if  you
  788.                reinstall your current version  it might be necessary  to
  789.                delete the "Sqed/32" application from the OS2.INI as well
  790.                as all INI files in the Sqed/32 directory.
  791.
  792.                To edit  the OS2.INI  file,  usw INIMAINT.EXE  (c)  Garry
  793.                Associates. INIMT21F.ZIP is  the most  recent version  of

  945.                Configurating Sqed/32
  946.
  947.                Unlike most other editors  for Fido-Net  mailing systems,
  948.                Sqed/32 is not configurated by cryptic textfiles. Sqed/32
  949.                is  a   PM-Application   and  therefore   all   necessary
  950.                information is  managed in  a PM-style  notebook  dialog.
  951.                This dialog truly is the heart of Sqed/32. Areas,  paths,
  952.                adresses etc. are  defined here,  but also  miscellaneous
  953.                information about windows, dialogs, fonts and colours.
  954.
  955.                Starting Sqed/32 for  the first  time, you  will have  to
  956.                provide the editor with some necessary information before
  957.                you  can  start  working.  Some  basic  entries  are  the
  958.                complete path to  your SQUISH.CFG  and at least  one name
  959.                and adress. All  entries are  stored in  OS/2 style  INI-
  960.                files that can be edited with all common INI-tools.
  961.
  962.                Most of the notebook-fields are not case sensitive.  That
  963.                means 'f:\point\squish\squish.cfg'  will be  treated  the
  964.                same way as 'F:\POINT\SQUISH\SQUISH.CFG'. Tokens are  the
  965.                big  exception.  All  Tokens  have  to  be  upper   case.
  966.                Moreover, names are, of course, case sensitive.
  967.
  968.                Paths and file names can  be entered two different  ways.
  969.                Either you type in the desired path or file name directly
  970.                or you enter a file dialog by pressing the  corresponding
  971.                push button.  The file  dialog, however,  will make  your
  972.                life a lot easier
  973.

  975.                Sqed/32. Common OS/2 limitations (e.g. length) apply  for

  1124.                   Description:
  1125.
1126.                    This function gives you the capability of
  1127.                    emulating/renaming specific drive letters in a
  1128.                    network environment.

  1131.
1132.                    If you access files on the server you might have to
1133.                    create two configuration files due to different drive
1134.                    letters. This is because drive letters on the server
1135.                    and on the workstation may differ due to your drive
  1136.                    mapping.

  1143.       ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  1144.
  1145.
1146.                    Let's assume the Squish files for the area OS2 are on
1147.                    the server drive E:. Therefore your SQUISH.CFG on the
1148.                    server would read something like this:
  1149.
  1150.                    EchoArea OS2.GER E:\ECHOMAIL\097 2:242/400 -$
  1151.
1152.                    On your workstation you mapped this drive to be drive
1153.                    H: In order to access the area OS2 you then would
1154.                    have to create yet another configuration file with
  1155.                    the following line:
  1156.
  1157.                    EchoArea OS2.GER H:\ECHOMAIL\097 -$
  1158.
1159.                    However, if you use the drive remapping facility of
1160.                    Sqed/32, you can tell Sqed/32 to interpret drive E:
1161.                    as drive H: and therefore you can use your
1162.                    configuration file on the server on the workstation
  1163.                    as well.
  1164.
1165.                    With the above example you would define the
  1166.                    following:
  1167.
  1168.                    H: -> E:
  1169.
1170.                    To do this, click on the 'Add' button. Sqed/32 now
1171.                    prompts you to enter the two drive letters (in this
  1172.                    example H and E).
  1173.
1174.                    Drive mapping also works with file attaches. If
1175.                    Sqed/32 discovers a path that would be different on
1176.                    the server, the path is adjusted.
  1177.
  1178.
  1179.                   Syntax:
  1180.
  1181.                    [<From> <To>]
  1182.
  1183.                   Examples:
  1184.

  2551.
2552.                    Here you can define aliases. Aliases are
2553.                    abbreviations. Each alias stands for a recipient and
2554.                    maybe even his adress and a subject. When you enter
2555.                    an alias in the recipient field and press the
2556.                    [tabulator] key, the corresponding name, adress and
2557.                    subject are filled in automatically.
2558.                    This makes life a lot easier if you happen to write a
  2559.                    lot to some people.

2626.                    When exiting Sqed/32 one or more of the following
2627.                    errorlevel may be returned :
  2628.
2629.                    1: New NetMail has been entered

2631.                    4: New LocalMail has been entered
  2632.
2633.                    Of course combinations of these errorlevels are
2634.                    possible also. For example, an errorlevel of 3 means
2635.                    that both, new NetMail and new EchoMail have been

  2641.
  2642.
  2643.
  2644.                  Description:
  2645.
2646.                    Origins are attached to the end of messages in echo
2647.                    areas (for netmail areas look at page 31). Your
2648.                    origin should give a small description of your
2649.                    mailbox. A more or less silly sentence or joke
2650.                    appears to be the real standard, though.
  2651.
2652.                    Sqed/32 uses the origin defined in SQUISH.CFG as the
  2653.                    default origin.
  2654.
2655.                    However, you can define specific origins for each
2656.                    echo area if you like.
  2657.
2658.                    In order to specify an origin line for a squish-area,
2659.                    simply add a file <areatag>.SQO and put the origin at
2660.                    the first line of this file.
  2661.
  2662.                    Example:
2663.                    Let's assume your SQUISH.CFG contains the following
  2664.                    definition:
  2665.                      EchoArea OS2 F:\POINT\MESSAGES\OS2\OS2INTL -$
  2666.                    2:2405/111
  2667.
2668.                    Now create the file OS2INTL.SQO in the directory
2669.                    F:\POINT\MESSAGES\OS2 and enter the desired origin
  2670.                    line.
  2671.
2672.                    In case you use SEADOG-Echos, Sqed/32 looks for a
2673.                    file called ORIGIN. The rest is similar to Squish-
  2674.                    areas.

2783.                    If you define more than one search pattern, these

2841.                    The first half of the dialog provides information

2891.                    overview about messages and replies.
  2892.
2893.                    For each message its subject line and sender are
2894.                    displayed. After the sender, all replies to this

2896.                    WARNING: Each message is only displayed once in the

2898.                    the reply list of another message, it will not appear
2899.                    again. Replies are indented a bit. Actually you may
2900.                    find the resulting structure similar to a message-
2901.                    tree. Since describing this technique is quite
2902.                    difficult, how about an example:
  2903.
  2904.                    -----------------------
  2905.                    Very stupid subject!
  2906.                      Jan-Peter Koopmann
  2907.                         Jörg-Stefan Sell
  2908.                            Volker Weber
  2909.                         Bill Clinton
  2910.                    Next stupid subject!
  2911.                      Volker Weber
  2912.                    -----------------------
  2913.
  2914.                    Explanation:
2915.                    The first message with the subject "Very stupid
2916.                    subject" was written by Jan-Peter Koopmann and has
2917.                    two direct replies: Jörg-Stefan Sell and Bill Clinton
2918.                    <grin>. Volker Weber, again, replied to Jörg-Stefan
  2919.                    Sell's message...
2920.                    I hope you get the picture ! Just watch the message
2921.                    window a bit and you will find out yourself !
2922.                    By the way: Does anybody really read this
2923.                    documentation ? If you really happen to read this,
2924.                    write me a small message. Just curious if this work
  2925.                    pays off....
  2926.
  2927.
2928.                    In order to work correctly, messages have to be
2929.                    linked to their replies. Linking messages by
2930.                    comparing their subject lines is not a very suitable
2931.                    solution. Therefore please forget Squish's linking
2932.                    feature. It will not provide the linking necessary
2933.                    for Sqed/32. It does not provide real message linking
2934.                    at all, by the way.
2935.                    Several message kludges provide a much better way of
2936.                    linking messages. All good fido message editors
2937.                    should make use of the REPLY kludge. If you reply to
2938.                    a message, your reply should therefore contain a
2939.                    REPLY kludge and the message id of the message you
2940.                    are refering to. If we could somehow link all
2941.                    messages using their MSGIDs and REPLY kludges, we
2942.                    would really have the sort of linking Sqed/32 needs.
2943.                    In fact this appears to be the only reasonable way of
2944.                    linking messages at all. Several utilities provide
  2945.
