SIO.SYS and VSIO.SYS are companion device drivers for Version 2
(and up) of the OS/2 operating system. These drivers are a
functional replacement for the distributed OS/2 comm drivers
COM.SYS and VCOM.SYS
SIO and VSIO will recognize COM/VCOM's command line parameters
allowing easy installation.
Both drivers (SIO/VSIO) have been coded with performance in mind,
possibly sacrificing some compatibility. For this reason, SIO
and VSIO are not exact replacements for the OS/2 drivers COM and
VCOM. However, all serial communications programs tested by the
author work correctly using SIO/VSIO.
Users may register SIO via CompuServe's SWREG feature (GO SWREG).
SIO's Registration ID is 1259.
There is now a voice line that may be used to register SIO. The
number is 1-703-494-4673. The number is for orders only, voice
support is still not provided. Much of the time, the phone line
will be answered by an answering machine. You can save us both
some money if you leave your registration information as a
message on the recorder. Be sure to leave your shipping address,
phone number(s), email address, and if registering more than a 4
port version give the number of ports. Last, but probably most
important, leave your credit card number and the expiration date.
Thanks to Guy Scharf, Sysop of the OS/2 Vendor Forum on
CompuServe (GO OS2AVEN), SIO is now supported in section one
(Other Vendors) of that Forum. You can enter support questions
about SIO in section 1 of the OS2AVEN Forum and be fairly assured
of a response. Messages entered into the Forum concerning SIO
should be addressed to 71154,575.
Previously registered users can use the included REREG.EXE to
transfer registration information to downloaded copies of SIO.
Note that my Internet address has changed to p00321@psilink.com.
Additionally, I am using a new CompuServe ID of 71154,575. My
previous CompuServe ID will continue to be valid for some time.
The SIO Technical Reference Manual is now distributed with the
Shareware version of SIO.
SU.EXE has undergone extensive changes between versions 1.20 and
1.24 of SIO. Type SU at the command line for a complete list of
available commands.
This release also contains PMLM.EXE and VIEWPMLM.EXE for the
first time. PMLM.EXE is a program to monitor all data I/O for a
given comm port, and optionally writing it to a given disk file.
VIEWPMLM.EXE can be used to view the saved disk file at a later
time. These programs will be of most interest to developers.
