  1. INTRODUCTION
  2. PMJPEG is a shareware image viewer with image processing and conversion
  3. capabilities for OS/2 2.x.  PMJPEG is a port of WinJPEG to OS/2 2.x.

  5. PMJPEG v.1.4 has the following features:
  6.   - display JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, PCX, Windows BMP, or OS/2 BMP images
  7.   - export an image to JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, PCX, Windows BMP, or OS/2 BMP
  8.   - capability of generating OS/2 desktop-background bitmaps that use
  9.     the system colors
  10.   - display an image in 16 color, 256 color, or truecolor display modes
  11.   - print an image with scaling, best proportional fit on the page, or
  12.     fit for full page
  13.   - red/green/blue or hue/saturation/brightness adjustment
  14.   - contrast enhancement
  15.   - gamma correction
  16.   - image rotation, vertical or horizontal flip, and image resizing
  17.   - image cropping
  18.   - batch file compression of GIF, TIFF, or Targa files to JPEG File
  19.     Interchange Format
  20.   - copy an image to the clipboard or paste an image from the clipboard
  21.   - slideshow: display selected files sequentially with a cycle option
  22.   - image buffering in a cyclic slideshow
  23.   - support for file name extension association and starting a slideshow

  36. KNOWN PROBLEMS 
  37. There are two bugs in the 256 color ET4000 driver that comes with the
  38. OS/2 2.1 beta or OS/2 2.0 + Service Pack: 1) the driver does not stretch
  39. the bitmap correctly so the Stretch to Fit Window option does not work
  40. properly, and 2) the image under the dialog box or under the drop-down
  41. menu is not re-drawn with the right colors.  Use the Auto-Refresh option
  42. if you have the second problem.

  44. If you are using the 256 color ET4000 driver, for certain images such as
  45. 24-bit images displayed with Maximum Color Depth set to 256 colors, the
  46. text that shows the cropping dimensions is garbled by a filled box.
  47. This appears to be a bug in OS/2's palette manager or the driver.
  48.  
  49. If you are using a 256 color driver, when you exit PMJPEG, the system
  50. colors do not immediately return to normal.  The system colors are
  51. gradually restored by OS/2.   You can force the colors to change back by
  52. opening and/or closing a window, such as the window list that pops up
  53. when you hit CTL-ESC.

  56. DISTRIBUTION CONDITIONS
  57. You are free to distribute this shareware version of PMJPEG as long as the
  58. following conditions are met:
  59.   1) The distributed archive must contain ONLY the files listed above.
  60.   2) The contents of this archive are NOT MODIFIED in any way.
  61.   3) This version is not to be sold.  However, a reasonable disk copying fee
  62.      is permitted.
  63.   4) This version is not to be bundled with a commercially sold package
  64.      without permission from the authors.

  67. HOW TO REGISTER   
  68. If you use PMJPEG for more than 14 days, you are expected to register
  69. PMJPEG.  When you register, you will receive the latest version of
  70. PMJPEG, a user manual, and a collection of JPEG images (we will put as
  71. many as we can fit on 2 720k 3 1/2" floppies, on 1 1.44M
  72.  3 1/2" floppy, or on 4 360k 5 1/4" floppies).  Also, the registered
  73. version does not have the reminder-to-register screen at the start.

  75. The registration fee is only $20.  MA residents, add 5% sales tax to the
  76. registration fee.  US residents, add $4 for shipping and handling;
  77. non-US residents, add $8 for shipping and handling.   If you want PMJPEG
  78. e-mailed to your account instead of having it physically mailed to you,
  79. there is no extra shipping charge.

  81. Updates are free but the shipping charge described above applies to updates.
  82. Users who register PMJPEG and provide an e-mail address will automatically
  83. receive updates via e-mail.

  85. For e-mail registrations, you need to use a program called "uudecode" to
  86. decode the uuencoded file that we e-mail to you.  For your information,
  87. a uuencoded file is a binary file that is converted to text by a program
  88. called "uuencode".  If your mail system rejects large messages, we will
  89. split the uuencoded file into smaller parts before mailing the parts to
  90. you, and you will need to edit the messages with a text editor before
  91. you can decode them.  Compuserve, for example, does not permit large
  92. e-mail messages.  Also, the uuencoded file is rather large; it is
  93. approximately 300k for PMJPEG v.1.3.  Compuserve users may find it less
  94. expensive to receive PMJPEG via U.S. Mail.

  96. Registrations with the incorrect fee or with non-US currency will be
  97. returned.

  105. Registration of PMJPEG is based on "personal usage."  Corporate or
  106. organizational users must register all copies used on an individual
  107. basis; a specific person (name) must be explicitly assigned to each
  108. registrant who will be provided with a personalized copy of PMJPEG.
  109. Registration grants a specific person (not an organization or
  110. corporate entity) the right to use PMJPEG.

  112. Although we will try to mail your copy of PMJPEG 1-3 weeks after
  113. we receive your registration, please allow up to 4-6 weeks for
  114. delivery.
