  1. SBCD2.ADD Version 1.23
  2. ======================

  4. You should replace any ealier version with this new driver.
  5.  
  6. The following steps provide a guide on installing the driver on OS/2
  7. ver 2.0 and 2.1.
  8.  
  9. The SBCD2.ADD can be applied to OS/2 systems which support layered
  10. CD-ROM device managment structure.  This structure is supported in
  11. OS/2 2.1.  Users of OS/2 2.0 could use the OS2CDR package which
  12. contains the OS2CDROM.DMD for OS/2 2.0.  The OS2CDR.ZIP is available
  13. in Compuserve, forum IBMOS2.

  15. INSTALLATION OF SBCD2.ADD, CD-ROM DEVICE DRIVERS
  16. ------------------------------------------------

  18. Please refer to the document provided in OS2CDR package first.

  20. 1. If you have previously installed OS/2, check whether you have the
  21.    following line in your config.sys.  If this line is missing, add
  22.    the following line to your config.sys.
  23.  
  24.    DEVICE=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q
  25.  
  26. 2. If you have previously installed CD-ROM support during OS/2
  27.    installation, check that you have the following line in your
  28.    config.sys.  If this line is missing, add the following line to
  29.    your config.sys.

  31.    IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q
  32.  
  33. 3. Comment out the following line in your config.sys.  Do not delete
  34.    this line as you may want to refer to it later.

  36.    REM DEVICE=C:\OS2\CDROM.SYS /Q /N:4
  37.  
  38. 4. Copy the following file from OS2CDR package to C:\OS2
  39.  
  40.    OS2CDROM.DMD
  41.  
  42. 5. Copy the SBCD2.ADD file to C:\OS2 or overwrite any earlier version
  43.    of SBCD2.ADD in the C:\OS2 directory.
  44.  
  45. 6. Add the following line to config.sys.
  46.  
  47.    BASEDEV=OS2CDROM.DMD          (DO NOT SPECIFY A PATH !)
  48.  
  49. 7. Add also the following line to config.sys.
  50.  
  51.    BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:220      (DO NOT SPECIFY A PATH !)

  53.    NOTE: The /P:220 specifies the I/O base address used for the Sound
  54.    Blaster Pro or Sound Blaster 16 card.  Change this value according
  55.    if your setting is different.

  59. INSTALLATION OF OS/2 2.1 (Beta release) USING SBCD2.ADD
  60. -------------------------------------------------------

  62. 1. Make two disks using install.bat or install.cmd come in the OS/2
  63.    2.1 CD-ROM.  Please refer to the document comes with OS/2 2.1 
  64.    about how to create disks to install OS/2 2.1 version.

  66. 2. Copy the SBCD2.ADD file to the second disk made in step 1.  If
  67.    there is not enough disk space, remove any .ADD file that will not
  68.    be used.

  70. 3. Add the following line to the file CONFIG.SYS in the second disk
  71.    "Diskette 1" made in step 1.
  72.  
  73.    BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:220
  74.  
  75.    NOTE: The /P:220 specifies the I/O base address used for the Sound
  76.    Blaster Pro or Sound Blaster 16 card.  Change this value according
  77.    if your setting is different.

  79. 4. Continue the installation process as per normal.

  83. INSTALLATION OF OS/2 2.1 (Final release) USING SBCD2.ADD
  84. --------------------------------------------------------

  86. 1. Duplicate the disks that come with the OS/2 2.1 CD-ROM.  You should
  87.    only make any amendment on these disks.  Save keep the original
  88.    disks for any later usages.

  90. 2. Copy the SBCD2.ADD file into the disk "Diskette 1".
  91.  
  92. 3. Next add in the following line to the file CONFIG.SYS found in the
  93.    disk "Diskette 1".

  95.    BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:220
  96.  
  97.    NOTE: The /P:220 specifies the I/O base address used for the Sound
  98.    Blaster Pro or Sound Blaster 16 card.  Change this value according
  99.    if your setting is different.

  101. 4. Reboot the system with the disk "Installation Diskette" and follow
  102.    the installation process accordingly.

  104. 5. After the installation is completed, note that there are two
  105.    essential files are not copied into your local hard drive.  So you
  106.    will still not able to access the CD-ROM drive.

  108. 6. Copy files CDFS.IFS and OS2CDROM.DMD into the OS2 directory followed
  109.    by adding the following two lines into your CONFIG.SYS file.

  111.    IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.SYS /Q
  112.    BASEDEV=OS2CDROM.DMD
  113.  
  114. 7. Remember to reboot the system.

  118. Some updates on this new version
  119. --------------------------------
  120.  
  121. 1. This version of SBCD2.ADD solves the problem of "Drive not ready"
  122.    error on high speed machines with CDR 521/523 CDROM drives when
  123.    retrieving PhotoCD images.
  124. 2. It will, during initialization time, set the CD audio volume of
  125.    the Sound Blaster card to a audible level.
