  1.                 Mousepen - Lightpen Emulation Utility

  4. Introduction:

  6. Thank you for trying Mousepen.  Mousepen is a Lightpen emulation program for
  7. use with the IBM Communications Manager (tm) program product running under OS/2 2.x.
  8. It is designed to enable lightpen applications running in 3270 emulation sessions to 
  9. use the mouse (or other pointing device which appears as a mouse) in lieu of an actual
  10. lightpen.

  12. Contents of this package are:
  13.  
  14. READ.ME         - What you're reading right now.
  15. MOUSEPEN.EXE    - The Mousepen control program.
  16. MOUSEPEN.HLP    - The help file for the mousepen control program.
  17. MPENDLL.DLL     - The Mousepen DLL (the code which does all the work).
  18. INSTALL.EXE     - The Mousepen installation program.
  19. INSTALL.HLP     - The help file for the installation program.

  21. Installation is fairly simple:
  22.  
  23. Step1 - Change to the drive and directory containing the files in this package.
  24.  
  25. Step2 - Type INSTALL to execute the installation program.
  26.  
  27. Step3 - Change the destination drive/directory information as needed and click
  28.         on the OK button.
  29. Step4 - Installation is complete. Click on EXIT to end the installation.
  30.  
  31. Step5 - An Icon for the mousepen program should now be present on your desktop.
  32.         To start the emulation, simply double-click on the icon. The program
  33.         will begin execution and an entry will be added to the window-list,
  34.         however, no window will pop up. By default, the emulation will be
  35.         enabled. It may be disabled by:
  36.  
  37.             a)  Double-clicking on the MousePen entry on the window-list. This
  38.                 will open the mousepen window. An menu item for OPTIONS will
  39.                 be present. If OPTIONS is selected an menu item for Mousepen
  40.                 Control will display. If Mousepen Control is selected a dialog
  41.                 box with the emulation options will appear. Currently the only
  42.                 option is to either enable or disable mousepen support. After
  43.                 choosing either to enable or disable the support, select the OK
  44.                 button. The window should then be minimized (or hidden). If the
  45.                 EXIT option is chosen or the window is closed, the emulation is 
  46.                 automatically disabled.

  50. Mousepen will remember the enabled/disabled state of the emulation upon each
  51. invocation of the program. OS/2 will automatically restart the mousepen program
  52. when OS/2 is restarted.

  54. To use the lightpen functionality, simply open an emulator session. Select a
  55. lightpen detectable field within the session using the left mouse button and
  56. !!VOILA!! instant lightpen!. If a non-detectable field is clicked on, the
  57. emulator will lock the keyboard and the reset key will need to be pressed in
  58. order to type into the session. If the keyboard is locked and a detectable
  59. field is probed, however, the keyboard lock is reset and the field selected.

  61. Miscellaneous Notes:
  62.  
  63. If you notice that the first time the mousepen is used in an emulation session
  64. the field does not select, it is probably because the first mouse click is
  65. used to bring the emulation session into focus and therefore never makes it
  66. to the mousepen program. Once the session is brought into focus however, only
  67. one click of the mouse button should cause the selection to be accomplished.
