  9. How to migrate the boot partition from FAT to HPFS

  12. Some time ago I asked how I might migrate my boot partition from FAT to
  13. HPFS.  What I had in mind was something like:
  14.  
  15.     a.  backup FAT C: to tape
  16.     b.  boot from an emergency floppy set
  17.     c.  format C: as an HPFS drive
  18.     d.  restore tape to HPFS C:
  19.  
  20. This doesn't work because the boot process recognises that the drive is
  21. "supposed" to be FAT.  The only suggestions amounted to reinstalling the
  22. first 5 disks of OS/2 to "prepare" the HPFS drive for booting.
  23.  
  24. I've finally worked out how to do convert from FAT to HPFS quickly and
  25. easily.  There's a hidden file called \OS2BOOT that controls the booting
  26. process and it's quite different for FAT and HPFS: 
  27.  
  28.     FAT:    \OS2BOOT, 1099 bytes
  29.     HPFS:   \OS2BOOT, 50318 bytes
  30.  
  31. The program SYSINSTX.COM on installation disk 0 creates the appropriate
  32. \OS2BOOT for the file system.
  33.  
  34. After steps a-d above, add a final step before rebooting from the "new" 
  35. HPFS C: drive:
  36.  
  37.     e.  execute the command "SYSINST C:" from the emergency floppy set or
  38.         the OS/2 "installation diskette"
  39.  
  40. If you have a reliable tape backup system (e.g. GTak, BakupWiz), it's
  41. ever so easy to convert that last remaining FAT partition to HPFS.  (If
  42. you want to go from HPFS to FAT, the same procedure applies.)

  68.   For example: if ther were some errors and BakupWiz had just written
  69.   the third FileSet on the tape: 3 * 16 + 4 = a return code of 52.

  71.   the file include/exclude specifications. This functions from both the
  72.   menu and command line operation mode. Simply create a file containing
  73.   a list of all the files and then specifiy this file's name preceded
  74.   by an @. For example: if the file name is listfile, from the command
  75.   line specify: BWS5 -b@listfile. This will back up all the files
  76.   specified inb listfile.

  99. backup program that uses multiple partitions, they should be erased
  100. before using them with BakupWiz. This will be detected and
  101. automatically handled in a future release.

  104. Your existing configuration files will no longer work properly and you 
  105. must reconfigure and resave any custom configurations you may have. My
  106. apologies for this inconvenience. Any future changes in the
  107. configuration file will    be backward compatible.

  130.   backup will fit on the drive it is being written to.
