  66. The  October 31st  planting date  seems to be the best
  67. for garlic.  A  good  cool  spell  after  planting  is
  68. beneficial.  Garlic  bulbs (and  cloves) will  be of a
  69. larger size if temperatures go below 40F for a week or
  70. so.  However, don't allow it to freeze!  Cover the bed
  71. with hay or straw if a freeze is threatening.

  75.   Garlic can be grown if planted in the spring . . . we have done
  76. it here in Texas.  It doesn't  take too kindly  to  too much heat
  77. and strong sunlight.  Bulbs were  smaller than what can be picked
  78. up in the supermarket . . . but I guarantee that the taste of the
  79. smaller cloves were superior to  commercially grown stuff.  Then,
  80. as farmers have done  since forever,  pick out the largest cloves
  81. for next years planting.  This way, you will grow the best bulbs.
