  5.     Susan Twohey was a beautiful girl
  6.  who  was being  actively  pursued by 
  7.  Jack  Jones.  He  was desperately in 
  8.  love  with Susan  but she  could not 
  9.  stand  him.  Jack would pick flowers 
  10.  and  carry them  to  Susan's  house, 
  11.  waiting outside until she  appeared.  
  12.  He would stop  at the  general store 
  13.  and  buy new  candies when shipments 
  14.  arrived and carry them as a gift for 
  15.  Susan.      
  16.     Often,  Susan would  look out the 
  17.  window  and  see Jack at  the corner 
  18.  just  waiting  to  see if  she would 
  19.  walk  out  onto the porch.  What was
  20.  she going to do to get rid of him?      
  21.     Her  mother had no answer  so she 
  22.  went  to her grandmother  to ask for
  23.

  26. her  advice.  Her  grandmother said 
  27. that  she  heard a  story  from her 
  28. grandmother that might just  be the 
  29. answer Susan was looking for.  
  30.    Susan  was to  go to the nearest 
  31. intersection  and  place a clove of 
  32. garlic   on  the  ground  with  two 
  33. crossed pins.  
  34.    The next time Jack  was  hanging 
  35. around,  Susan  was  to get  him to 
  36. walk over  the garlic  and he would 
  37. lose interest in her.      
  38.    That  was  simple enough.  Susan 
  39. placed the  garlic and the next day 
  40. got  Jack to walk over the spot and 
  41. he never bothered to see her again.  
  42.    Just lost interest as her grand-
  43. mother had predicted.
