Punch Board Punch Board Punch Board
Version 1.1
Copyright 1992, by The VisAeon Corporation. All Rights

Description: Description: Description:
The Punch program is designed for the busy employees of
todays corporations who have to come and go from their desks
often and rapidly. Punch helps save time in two ways:
1. Employees can quickly leave a centralized message
of where they are going and when they will be back.
2. Employees can lock the operations of the machine
without having to exit windows or log out of the
network.
Punch requires Windows version 3.0 or greater and a local
area network. If the LAN is using Novell's IPX, the login
name is automatically entered in the Name box on the punch
in and punch out screens.
The five user windows version is public domain and free of
charge. Additional licenses are available for a nominal
fee. The DOS punch in and punch out capabilities are also
available.
Installation: Installation: Installation:
Create a directory on the network drive within a publicly
accessible directory. For the purposes of example, I will
use J:\PUBLIC as the existing publicly accessible directory.
From the DOS prompt type "MD J:\PUBLIC\PUNCH" then hit the
ENTER key.
Place the Punch disk in the A: drive and type "COPY A:*.*
J:\PUBLIC\PUNCH" then hit the ENTER key.
The software has now been loaded on your network. To add
the Punch program to a windows program group:
Run Windows.

clicking on any item in that program group.
From Windows, select File from the Program Manager menu.
Select New.
Make sure Program Item is selected then select OK.

the TAB key.

You will first need to run Administration. Punch Board will
automatically create the files that it needs the first time
you run administration.
Click on the Administration menu item or hit <ALT> A.
You will have two entry boxes on the screen, one for Names
and one for Locations. You can click the cursor over either
box and enter a name, a location or both.
Then position the cursor over the Add button and single

Punch database. You can view them by clicking the dropdown
arrow next the each of the entry boxes.
To remove a name or location, click on the dropdown button
next to either the name or location entry box, single click

Click on the Punch In/Out menu item or hit <ALT> P.
If Novell's IPX is running, the login name will appear in
the "Who are you?" box. Otherwise, type in the first few
letters of the person punching in/out. The program will
fill in the remainder of the name from those found in the
database.
If you are punching in, simply click on the Punch Out
button.
If you are punching out, tab to the 'Where are you going?'
box and make an entry. Then tab to the 'When will you be
back?' box and make an entry.
Click on the Punch In button.
Any of the boxes may be filled by clicking on the dropdown
box next to the entry box. A window will fill with entries
for the box. Any of the entries can be clicked on using the
mouse pointer.
In the 'Who are you?' box, a name must be used that has been
added to the database in the Administration function. The
entries in the 'Where are you going?' and 'When will you be
back?' do not have to be in the database.

The screen will blank and the system will be locked.
No other programs that were running under Windows will run
while the system is locked.
To unlock the system, type in your password and hit <ENTER>.
There will be no echo to the screen.
