NS3 30 Day Evaluation
INSTALLING NS3
OVERVIEW
--------
NS3 is a server based group scheduler. There are two options when
installing NS3 - installing the SERVER side and then the users
WORKSTATION. NS3 should first be installed onto the system
designated as the SERVER. After this has been completed,
additional Users of NS3 are added via the WORKSTATION installation
which requires the user only to know where the server was installed.
SERVER
------
To install Network Scheduler 3, put Disk 1 into Drive A: (or B:).
Run the Install program by going to the drive and type INSTALL.
A menu will appear with two options. The first option is to
perform a Workstation Setup. The second option is to perform
a Server Setup. Choose the second option (Server Setup).
The install program will give you a list of available drives to
place Network Scheduler 3. Select a drive.
The install program will then copy the neccessary files to the
selected drive under the subdirectory NS3.
After completing the file copy, the install program will ask you
if you want to setup your workstation. If you choose yes, it
will launch Network Scheduler for you. If you choose no, it will
give you the option to review the release notes.
WORKSTATION
-----------
To install Network Scheduler 3, put Disk 1 into Drive A: (or B:).
Run the Install program by going to the drive and type INSTALL.
Select the first menu option (Workstation setup). The install
program will give you a list of available drives. Select the
drive where the NS3 server was installed. The Workstation Setup
will launch NS3 to bring up the Login dialog.
LOGIN AND SETUP OF NS3
The Login and Setup process for Network Scheduler 3 is quick and
easy. The process consists of Registering yourself as a user if
you are not on the Registered User List and optionally setting up
your workstation to customize the login process.
Initial set-up
--------------
The first time NS3 is invoked after installation, the Login
dialog will be presented. The Registered User List will be blank
since you are the first person to run NS3.
Registering as a User
---------------------
From within the Login dialog, type in the Name you wish to have as
your NS3 Login Name and hit Enter (or OK). This is also the name
under which all Calendar events will be filed (Your calendar name).
You then will be asked to confirm your actions or return to the
main screen. There can be a maximum of 5 Users.
Workstation Setup
------------------------
Next you will be prompted with the Workstation Setup dialog which
will create an NS3 Program Icon within the Program Manager and
customize your workstation to streamline the NS3 startup process.
To enter NS3, two pieces of information must be known, your Login
Name (NSUSER) and the path to where the calendar data resides
(NSPATH). This information can be stored within the Windows
WIN.INI file (Windows) and if it exists, NS3 will startup without
presenting the Login dialogs.
Set-up Options
--------------
You can override the automatic startup if desired by selecting
the "Always Display Login Dialog on Startup" option.
(windows only)
Selecting the "Add Network Scheduler 3 to Desktop" will apply the
modifications to your WIN.INI file and create a Program icon in
the Program Group selected from the "Add to Group" list box.
NOTE :
If security is of concern, you can add Password protection to
your NS3 login name. Please reference the Security section of
this document.
Other options of Workstation Install
------------------------------------
INSTALL.EXE is copied to the Network Scheduler directory during the
server install. Instead of using the Installation disks, the program
can be run from the network where Network Scheduler 3 resides.
