  5. INSTALLING NS3

  7.   OVERVIEW
  8.   --------
  9.   NS3 is a server based group scheduler. There are two options when
  10.   installing NS3 - installing the SERVER side and then the users
  11.   WORKSTATION. NS3 should first be installed onto the system
  12.   designated as the SERVER. After this has been completed,
  13.   additional Users of NS3 are added via the WORKSTATION installation
  14.   which requires the user only to know where the server was installed.

  19.   To install Network Scheduler 3, put Disk 1 into Drive A: (or B:).
  20.   Run the Install program by going to the drive and type INSTALL.
  21.  
  22.   A menu will appear with two options.  The first option is to
  23.   perform a Workstation Setup.  The second option is to perform
  24.   a Server Setup.  Choose the second option (Server Setup).
  25.  
  26.   The install program will give you a list of available drives to
  27.   place Network Scheduler 3.  Select a drive.
  28.  
  29.   The install program will then copy the neccessary files to the
  30.   selected drive under the subdirectory NS3.

  32.   After completing the file copy, the install program will ask you
  33.   if you want to setup your workstation.  If you choose yes, it
  34.   will launch Network Scheduler for you.  If you choose no, it will
  35.   give you the option to review the release notes.

  38.   WORKSTATION
  39.   -----------
  40.   To install Network Scheduler 3, put Disk 1 into Drive A: (or B:).

  45.   drive where the NS3 server was installed. The Workstation Setup
  46.   will launch NS3 to bring up the Login dialog.

  50. LOGIN AND SETUP OF NS3
  51.  
  52.   The Login and Setup process for Network Scheduler 3 is quick and
  53.   easy. The process consists of Registering yourself as a user if
  54.   you are not on the Registered User List and optionally setting up
  55.   your workstation to customize the login process.

  58.   Initial set-up
  59.   --------------
  60.   The first time NS3 is invoked after installation, the Login
  61.   dialog will be presented.  The Registered User List will be blank
  62.   since you are the first person to run NS3.

  65.   Registering as a User
  66.   ---------------------
  67.   From within the Login dialog, type in the Name you wish to have as
  68.   your NS3 Login Name and hit Enter (or OK).  This is also the name
  69.   under which all Calendar events will be filed (Your calendar name).
  70.   You then will be asked to confirm your actions or return to the
  71.   main screen. There can be a maximum of 5 Users.

  74.   Workstation Setup
  75.   ------------------------
  76.   Next you will be prompted with the Workstation Setup dialog which
  77.   will create an NS3 Program Icon within the Program Manager and
  78.   customize your workstation to streamline the NS3 startup process.
  79.   To enter NS3, two pieces of information must be known, your Login
  80.   Name (NSUSER) and the path to where the calendar  data resides
  81.   (NSPATH). This information can be stored within the Windows
  82.   WIN.INI file (Windows) and if it exists, NS3 will startup without 
  83.   presenting the Login dialogs.

  86.   Set-up Options
  87.   --------------
  88.   You can override the automatic startup if desired by selecting
  89.   the "Always Display Login Dialog on Startup" option.

  92.   Selecting the "Add Network Scheduler 3 to Desktop" will apply the
  93.   modifications to your WIN.INI file and create a Program icon in
  94.   the Program Group selected from the "Add to Group" list box.

  97.   If security is of concern, you can add Password protection to
  98.   your NS3 login name. Please reference the Security section of
  99.   this document.

  102.   Other options of Workstation Install
  103.   ------------------------------------
  104.   INSTALL.EXE is copied to the Network Scheduler directory during the
  105.   server install.  Instead of using the Installation disks, the program
  106.   can be run from the network where Network Scheduler 3 resides.
