  10. You are unable to make a command or symbol appear as literal text
  11. in an equation.  For instance, when you type the word "Over" in
  12. the Equation Editor, it is interpreted as a horizontal line.

  15. Concept
  16. The Equation Editor displays a command or symbol as literal text
  17. when it is preceded by a backslash (\).  For example, the word
  18. "over" is an equation command, but you may want to include it as
  19. part of your equation text.  Look at the equation below.  In
  20. order for the word "over" to appear as text  in an equation, you
  21. would have to use the backslash to denote when to use "over" as a
  22. command  and when to consider it as text in the equation.

  28. For example, the command line for this equation is \Over over
  29. \Over.  This equation may seem unusual, but it is a good example
  30. of how you may use a command as both literal text and a command
  31. in the same equation.

  33. Solution
  34. Use a backslash to display a command or symbol as text.  In this
  35. example, you will create the equation shown above.

  37. 1    Place the cursor where you want the equation to appear.
  38.  
  39. 2    Press Graphics (Alt+F9), Equation (6), Create (1), then Edit
  40.      (9).

  42. 3    Type a backslash (\), then Over.  Press the Space Bar once.

  44. 4    Type over to add it as a command.

  46. 5    Type another backslash (\), then Over.

  48. 6    Press Exit twice to return to the document editing screen.

  50. You can view your equation in the View Document screen.
