INSTALLING THE SHAREWARE EVALUATION COPY
----------------------------------------
1. Insert the 3DMENU program diskette into the computer's diskette
drive (unless you have already copied or downloaded the required
files to your hard disk).
If you will be installing from a drive other than the default, A:,
substitute that drive's letter wherever A: is referred to below.
2. With the program diskette in drive A: (or from the directory
containing the required files), from the DOS prompt type:
A:INSTALL
and press ENTER.
3. After the initial installation screen appears, press ENTER again
to begin installation.
NOTE: During installation, you can press ESC at any time to back up
one prompt at a time. To cancel the installation completely,
press ESC until you return to the DOS prompt, and 3DMENU will
not be installed.
4. INSTALL will prompt you for the following installation settings:
o Color Screen -> Answer Yes to this prompt if the colored boxes
shown are displayed in their proper colors on your screen.
This prompt will not appear if 3DMENU detects that your
computer has a monochrome display adaptor.
o Snowy Screen -> Answer Yes to this prompt if there is "snow"
interference on your screen.
This prompt will not appear if 3DMENU detects that your
computer has a monochrome display adaptor.
o Install on drive -> Accept the default drive shown, or enter
the letter of another existing drive where you want to store
the 3DMENU files.
o Install in directory -> Accept the default directory, \3DMENU,
or enter the name of another directory where you want to store
the 3DMENU files. If the specified directory does not exist,
INSTALL will create it for you.
o Command to start menu -> Accept the default command, "MENU", or
enter the name of another command you want to use to start
3DMENU.
You cannot choose the command "3DMENU", since this is reserved
for the program name.
o Modify AUTOEXEC.BAT file -> Answer Yes to this prompt if you
want 3DMENU to start automatically every time you turn on (or
reboot) your computer.
INSTALL will add the command "MENU" to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
If you have chosen a different command to start 3DMENU, the
specified command will be substituted for "MENU".
NOTE: If you are using a version of DOS lower than 3.0, you must
answer Yes to the prompt "Modify AUTOEXEC.BAT file". INSTALL
will add to your Path the directory you have chosen to store
the 3DMENU files in.
5. Once the 3DMENU program files have been copied, you will be
prompted to decide whether you want 3DMENU's automatic menu
generator to create a menu system for you.
Answer Yes to this prompt if you want 3DMENU to scan your hard
drive(s) now for applications and generate a menu system auto-
matically.
6. When the installation is complete, at the DOS prompt type:
MENU
and press ENTER to start 3DMENU. If you have chosen a different
commmand to start 3DMENU, substitute that command for "MENU".
ABOUT 3DMENU
------------
3DMENU is a menu system utility which allows you to create a
customized menu system for your computer. It lets you easily
organize and access your software programs, and saves time by
reducing keystrokes and eliminating the need to know DOS commands.
Some major features and advantages of 3DMENU are outlined below:
NOT MEMORY RESIDENT
o 3DMENU takes up no memory when your menu options are run. All
available memory can be used by your software programs.

o Choose one of 8 screensave displays to be automatically
activated after an interval of keyboard/mouse inactivity.
SECURITY
o Run menu system with "read only" access to prevent unauthorized
modifications.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
o IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2, COMPAQ, or compatible system, with hard
disk.
o PC-DOS or MS-DOS version 2.0 or higher.
o Color, monochrome, or LCD monitor.
o VGA, EGA, CGA, MDA, or Hercules display adaptor.
o Mouse (optional). Supports Microsoft, Logitech, PC Mouse &
compatibles.
SELECTING A MENU OPTION
-----------------------
Keyboard: Press the number or function key that matches the
number of the option you want, OR:
Use up and down cursor keys to highlight the option
you want, then press ENTER.
You may also use the PgDn/PgUp keys to run the next or
previous sub-menu.
Mouse: Use mouse to highlight the option you want, then press
the left mouse button.
A menu's options can only be selected when that menu is "active".
A menu is active while it is in the foreground, with a double line
border.
If a sub-menu is currently active and the option you want to
select is on a previous menu, press ESC or PgUp, or the right
mouse button, to back up one menu level at a time.
SELECTING A CONTROL MENU COMMAND
--------------------------------
Keyboard: Press the command's shortcut key (if applicable), OR:
Press CTRL to activate the Control Menu. Select a
command by pressing the letter key that matches the
command's highlighted letter.
Mouse: Press CTRL to activate the Control Menu. Use mouse to
highlight the command you want, then press the left
mouse button.
CREATING MENU OPTIONS
---------------------
Press F10 to enter the edit screen for the menu that is currently
"active". A menu is active while it is in the foreground, with a
double line border, and its options available for selection.
From the edit screen, you may add, edit, move, or delete the
active menu's options.
Note: If you make a change to the active menu using the Edit Menu
(F10) command from the Control Menu, the menu will return
to the center of the screen (default position), and may
then need to be repositioned.
To reposition the active menu, press Shift to make its
border flash. Continue to hold down the Shift key while
you use the cursor keys (or mouse) to move the menu to a
new position.
To reposition an inactive menu, press Shift+ESC until its
border flashes. Continue to hold down the Shift key while
you use the cursor keys (or mouse) to move the menu to a
new position.
EXITING 3DMENU
--------------
Press CTRL+X to exit 3DMENU.
UPDATED VERSIONS
----------------
A commercial version of 3DMENU, called 3DMENU Professional, is
also available. It is NOT SHAREWARE.
As of this printing, 3DMENU Professional Version 4.01 is the most
current commercial version available. Its features are outlined
below:
