* help window 10
-------------------------- SET FONT SPACING MENU --------------------------
FONT SPACING is usually called "LEADING". Leading is the space between
lines of text. 100 percent leading should give you a normal white space
between lines. You, however, may change this number from 80-120 percent
to decrease or increase the leading to suit your tastes.
IF your are using an INTERNAL (built-in to printer) FONT, LPE has
to make a guess about the height of each line (to calculate the
default spacing). Use this option to touch-up interline spacing
should LPE guess wrong on your internal fonts' size.
* help window 11
------------------ ENVELOPE FONT and FONT UTILITIES menu. -----------------
You may select any *.SFL or *.USL font in your LPE directory
to use as your RETURN, DESTINATION, or ATTENTION LINE fonts.
Note that the FIRST (top) LINE in each address MAY have a different
font selected than the following lines in that address!
======== font DEFAULTS ========
RETURN ADDRESS LINE 1 FONT: LPER1.SFL
FOLLOWING LINES FONT: LPER2.SFL
DESTINATION ADDRESS LINE 1 FONT: LPED1.SFL
FOLLOWING LINES FONT: LPED2.SFL
ATTENTION LINE FONT: LPEA1.SFL
You may also set your FONT INTERLINE SPACING.
You may also PRINT a FONT SAMPLE SHEET to your printer, to enable
easy selection of your different soft fonts!
* help window 12
---------------------- BARCODE-FIMCODE Enable / Disable -------------------
Enable BARCODES to print the US POSTAL SERVICE barcode on the bottom right
side of your envelopes. LPE will scan each address for a valid ZIP or ZIP
PLUS FOUR zipcode and create the proper barcode for the address.
If your RETURN and DESTINATION addresses are SWAPPED (reply mail) LPE will
barcode off of the address which is placed FARTHEST to the RIGHT.
THREE barcode locations are permitted by POSTAL REGULATIONS:
1 - 4 inches from the lower right edge of the envelope (HIGHLY PREFERRED)
2 - ABOVE the destination address.
3 - BELOW the destination address.
NO other choices are permitted by the POST OFFICE. Do NOT ask to change.
FIMCODES are the 5 black vertical bars near the stamp. These bars
tell the Post Office computer that the envelope is pre-barcoded.
Bar-coded envelopes will save you postage when 50 or more letters are
addressed within the same first 3 digits of one ZIP CODE. ( check with
your local post office first ).
* help window 13
--------------------------- LAN Enable / Disable --------------------------
ENABLED forces LPE to always download the soft-fonts immediately before
printing single envelopes. This forces each envelope soft font and envelope
data to be sent as ONE CONTIGUOUS data packet.
When you are on a SHARED-PRINTER network or a LAN, other users can reset
and remove the laser-printers' downloaded fonts which you have downloaded.
Default is DISABLED.
* help window 14 SETUPS MENU: RECALL SAVE CURRENT SAVE NEW DELETE
----------------------- THE TWENTY DIFFERENT SETUPS -----------------------
LOAD: - Load a previously saved SETUP.
SAVE: - SAVE everything shown on the screen to a NEW SETUP number.
You are allowed to enter a 23 character description for this SETUP.
RESET: Set the Current SETUP to the FACTORY DEFAULTS.
The Setup files each contain the complete settings for LPE.
You are encouraged to experiment with this powerful feature.
You should be able to find numerous setups which will make your
various envelope printing tasks much easier!
* help window 15 DISPLAYING ALL SETUPS
----------------------- THE TWENTY DIFFERENT SETUPS -----------------------
You are presented with a list of all TWENTY SETUPS.
The description and the name of each SETUP FILE is shown. You are being
asked to choose one of the setup files shown. Please read each description
to determine which setup file you want to choose.
We encourage you to use the different SETUPS for Birthday Card Envelopes,
MAIL LISTs for HOME, BIRTHDAYS, CHRISTMAS, BUSINESS, CHURCH, etc.
* help window 16 SELECTING .PCX FILE AND PLACEMENT
---------------------------- .PCX FILE SELECT -----------------------------
SELECT - a .PCX file to print onto the envelope. This can be a
custom logo, picture or anything you want.
The .PCX file MUST be BLACK & WHITE. NO COLOR .PCX files
are allowed.
LPE will NOT display any .PCX file over 64kbytes on the menu.
I do not show them because I could not print them anyway.
NOTE: Laser printers print at 300 dots per inch.
If you want to create a .PCX picture that is 1 inch tall and
1 inch wide when it prints to your Laser Printer,
make your .PCX picture 300 by 300 dots! Easy to remember.
REMOVE - Remove the .PCX file from the envelope.
NOTE: Envelopes will print slower than usual when using a .PCX image.
This is because of the huge data transfers involved inside the
printer. Do not be alarmed, this is natural for your printer.
* help window 17 SET INTERLINE SPACING 80-120 PERCENT
---------------- SET INTERLINE SPACING 80 thru 120 PERCENT ---------------
INTERLINE SPACING CHANGES:
This option controls the "Leading" or White Space Between Lines
in the Addresses.
Example:
80 Percent will squeeze the lines very close together.
100 Percent will print the lines with normal spacing.
120 Percent will give a wide space between each line.
* help window 18 ENTERING THE ESC CODES TO USE AN INTERNAL FONT
---------- ENTERING a PRINTER ESCAPE CODE TO USE AN INTERNAL FONT ---------
========== WARNING: This option is for ADVANCED USERS ONLY! ===========
If you don't understand ESCAPE codes, PLEASE use the DOWNLOADED FONTS!
ONLY LANDSCAPE FONTS can be used. DO NOT select any PORTRAIT FONTS!
You should now enter the appropriate -ESC- codes given by your printer
manufacturer (or font cartridge manufacturer) to select the font you
wish to select.
You will normally find the proper ESCAPE codes by pressing the FONTS TEST
button on your printer's front panel.
AGAIN, DO NOT try to select any PORTRAIT FONTS!!! THIS PROGRAM ABSOLUTELY
CANNOT USE PORTRAIT FONTS. PAY ATTENTION.
---- MISUSE OF THIS OPTION WILL SERIOUSLY SCREW UP YOUR ENVELOPES ----
* help window 19 PRINTER ALIGNMENT MENU
------- USE THIS OPTION to EXACTLY ALIGN YOUR ENVELOPE PRINTING. ----------
Most Laser Printer Paper Feed paths are not exactly aligned when the
printer is manufactured. You will enjoy this advanced feature for
correcting any mis-alignment in your paper feed path. We wish that other
software vendors would provide this feature also. Alas.
PRINT ALIGNMENT SHEET: Use this option to print an alignment sheet
on your printer. Follow the instructions printed on that sheet to
compensate for any mis-alignment in your printer paper feed path.
NOTE: use a FULL 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper for this test.
PRINT ADJUSTED SHEET: Use this option to VERIFY that you have set
your HORIZONTAL and VERTICAL adjustment numbers correctly. (optional)
ENTER your HORIZONTAL correction value: range -120 to +120 pixels.
ENTER your VERTICAL correction value: range -120 to +120 pixels.
RESET both to ZERO: Use this option to quickly set both the HORIZONTAL
and VERTICAL correction values to ZERO. (optional)
NOTE: Once you have aligned your printer and set your correction values
up for your particular printer, you shouldn't RESET them back to ZERO.
* help window 20 ENTERING DESTINATION OR RETURN ADDRESSES
