INTRODUCTION
==============================================================
What is Fine Print?
==================
People who do a lot of downloading from bulletin boards
usually collect large quantities of documentation they want
to print out. Fine Print lets you print 4 FULL PAGES on one
sheet of paper, will keeping the original page formatting.
Advantage over other such products:
* Filtering of extended characters like the one use to draw
box, replacing them with +, -, | for printing on almost any
printer.
* Pull down menu and/or command line operated.
* Mouse support.
* Keeps the page format of the original document, so
reference to a page number are still usable.
* Unprintable characters will be "filtered" out.
(i.e. A .exe file could be printed, without
generating error or hanging computer.)
* Easy installation.
* User configurable.
+---+---+ +---+---+
* Configurable page layout | 1 | 2 | | | |
+---+---+ | 1 | 2 |
| 3 | 4 | | | |
+---+---+ +---+---+
* Printing of unformated document, line wrap.
Limitation
* In Epson Normal mode, only the 79 first characters of
each line will be printed. But documents formatted for
printer, usually don't exceed that number.
==============================================================
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
==============================================================
Fine Print runs on IBM XTs, ATs, PS/2s (and compatibles)
running DOS 2.1 or later (DOS 3.1 or later is recommended).
Color or Monochrome display. An Epson compatible printer, or
your printer manual and the reading of the following sections.
INSTALLING Fine Print
==============================================================
* You should install (copy) Fine Print in a drive/directory
(i.e., a "path") that is mentioned in your PATH statement
in your Autoexec.Bat file. To see what's in your path, at
the DOS prompt, type: path <enter>. Doing this ensures
DOS can find Fine Print regardless of where you are. Good
candidates are your TOOLS, UTILITY or DOS directories.
Note : Fine Print can be renamed to suite your needs
but if you share it, distribute it in it's
original form with the documentation.
==============================================================
How to Use Fine Print
==============================================================

-------------
Use the arrow keys to move though the menu, the 'enter' key or
the highlighted letter can also be use to select an item.
Use the 'escape' key to go back or to abort an operation.
The mouse can also be used to move across the menu, the left
button = 'enter' and the right button = 'escape'.
Selecting Options
=================

---------------

monochrome color scheme, use color for a color monitor.
Paginate ON/OFF
---------------
Use this option if you want page number to on your documents.
Ex. Docs Mode Listing Mode

How to Use Fine Print
==============================================================
Filter ON/OFF
-------------
The filter is useful for printer that can't print the graphics
characters usually used to draw boxes and lines on the screen.
Instead of printing letters or other weird characters as the
printer would usually do, it will replace those unwanted
characters with ( +, | and - ) signs to simulate corners,
lines and intersection.
Should be On or Off, depending if your printer support these
characters.
Ex. My fujitsu printer in it's normal mode can print graphics
characters so i leave the filter Off. But when it is in epson
emulation mode i have to turn ON the filter because it doesn't
support graphics chars in this mode.
Word wrap ON/OFF
---------------
Word wrap should be ON for Unformated document with lines
longer then 80 chars, the line will be wrapped to fit the
printer configuration.
Leaving it ON will have no effect on document with lines
shorter than 79 characters.
Use it in combination with 'Listing Mode' to print listing
with long lines.
Line Per Page
-------------
This will allow you to control the number of lines Fine Print
will print on a page. If you set the paper correctly and the
line still overflow on the other page Decrease that number
(default is 65) as you see fit.
NOTE : a value higher than 66 might not work properly with the
included driver (Desk jet, Fujitsu, Epson).

==============================================================
Listing Mode/Docs Mode
----------------------
The Docs mode will print the text file on for page using the
following layout :
+------+------+
| | |
| page | page |
| #1 | #2 |
| | |
+------+------+
| | |
| page | page |
| #3 | #4 |
| | |
+------+------+
The Listing mode will print on two columns only, but will
still keep the page formatting. The above example would print
like this :
| | |
| | |
| page | page |
| #1 | #3 |
| | |
| | |
| | |
| page | page |
| #2 | #4 |
| | |
| | |
Note : The page 2 and 3 are swapped. There is no line in the
middle to separate the pages so a listing printed like
this would be easier to read in this mode than printed
in the Docs mode.
Printing on both sides
----------------------
Fine print will print the Front page first then will prompt
you to prepare the printer to print the second side. Cut the
paper keeping the blank page. Then put it back in the printer
so the back of the first printed page is ready to be printed
on then press any key.
NOTE: The blank page is there to avoid an out of paper message
that would be issued will printing the last page.

==============================================================
Configuring YOUR printer
------------------------
If the included printer driver yields weird results, it might
be because your printer isn't epson compatible or that it
isn't properly configured ( see your Printer Manual for dip
switch settings or any other mean of configuring your
printer).
Even if this doesn't work you can still create your own
driver, for this you will need your Printer Manual.
The first thing to do is to find the ASCII code to send for
the following printing mode :
Elite Character
Compressed printing
SuperScript
And the code to change the
vertical line spacing
The code should be entered as DECIMAL code. See the on screen
example for help.
Use the Test option to see how your driver works.
You can create any number of driver but only one can be
loaded at a time. Use the load option to change between
different driver.
Save Settings
-------------
This option will save all of the above options to disk
including the currently selected printer to a config file.
==============================================================
