I don't want to waste your time (or mine), so I've put the bare minimum
into this document. When you register you will receive a more extensive
document with all necessary info, hints, proposed additions etc.
(and of course a more complete version of Cover Maker, the unregistered
version is slightly crippled - sorry but it has to be like that, else
no-one would pay for the bread and butter!)
BACKGROUND
Essentially Cover Maker is a utility which prints out tape cassette covers.
Cover Maker started out as a small program which would print rather
unimpressive tape covers but at least they'd be neater and quicker to
produce. I found the program extremely useful, and was continually
updating it - then a virus munched the source code and I was forced to
reprogram Cover Maker. What emerged was a far more user-friendly, icon-based
mouse-driven program (this is actually Cover Maker II revision 3, but
since I never released the first one it's just Cover Maker). The virus
actually did me a favour (I was too lazy to start over, it is always
a hassle to reprogram something from the very beginning).
I made the program for my own use and for the past two years I
have used it exclusively for my own tape covers discovering the odd bug
as I went along. It is different from the standard tape cover making programs
in that it supports graphics - the whole tape cover is printed in high
density graphics mode on an IBM graphics-compatible printer. Because of this,
Cover Maker allows you to be more creative when designing cassette covers.
The overall effect is better - I hate plain text covers! I have supplied a
few examples for you to see what can be done.
USING COVER MAKER
You will need the following to run Cover Maker:
1. An EGA or VGA or compatible graphics card
2. A mouse (can be used without a mouse, but not recommended)
3. An IBM graphics printer or compatible
(if there is enough interest I will provide extra printer options,
the most likely being support for an HP deskjet and postscript support)
Installing & Running:
All that needs to be done is to copy the zipped file into a directory
and unzip it. To run cover maker just type CM at the DOS prompt.
A menu will be displayed with descriptive icons to represent Cover
Maker's different sections. A mouse cursor will be displayed (even
if you don't have a mouse, in which case it can be controlled by the
keyboard - arrow keys, plus & minus, left & right shift) and you
can use the left mouse button to select an option when the cursor
is above it. Each screen has its own help page which is invoked with the
traditional F1 key.
FEATURES
- user-friendly iconized, pop-up menu, graphics environment
- powerful graphics editting features including block moving and scaling
as well as block warping, magnify option (makes editting easier),
shape filling ...
- lazy options which allow you to select a font type and enter a title
or two which the program fits neatly onto the tape cover for you.
- scaling of tape contents (song titles) to fit onto cover perfectly.
- 9 different fonts with 9 different styles
- help pages with all necessary information (no need to look at any
manuals!)
REGISTERING COVER MAKER
Cover Maker is shareware, it is not free. You may not distribute copies
of registered versions to anyone else if they intend to use it for any
length of time. I have opted to cripple the program slightly to encourage
people to register. The program is not unusable and you will be able to
see most of the features (when an option is unavaible a message will
be displayed), but you will benefit greatly by registering.
If you find Cover Maker useful, please register it. You will receive a copy
of the registered version with extra info. You are welcome to send any
questions, bugs or suggestions to me.
Feel free to give copies of Cover Maker (unregistered version) to any
friends who may find it useful. Sharing quality software with others
is an important part of making Shareware work.
Thank you for registering and supporting the shareware concept.
To register Cover Maker (revision 3), print the 'REGISTER.DOC' file,
fill out the form, and send R50 (or $30 for people living outside S.A.) to:
