  36.    INSTALLATION
  37.  
  38.    Registered User Disk
  39.    
  40.    When you register your copy of CodePrint you will receive the latest
  41.    version of CodePrint on disk.
  42.    
  43.    1) Place the CodePrint disk in your floppy drive.
  44.    2) Start Windows if required.
  45.    3) Open the Windows Program Manager and select RUN from the File menu.
  46.    4) Type either a:setup or b:setup (depending on which drive you are
  47.       installing from). Click OK.
  48.    5) Answer the questions when prompted by the installation program.
  49.    6) A CodePrint group will automatically be created.

  51.    Downloaded from a BBS or Received from a Disk Vendor
  52.  
  53.    Unzip or copy all the files to the ROOT directory of a floppy disk.
  54.    Then follow the instructions above to install the program.

  56.    If you are an experienced user, you can copy the files listed above
  57.    to a subdirectory on your hard disk. You can then optionally create
  58.    a program group.

  60.    Note: CTL3D.DLL should be copied to the windows system directory. Check
  61.    for previous copies of this file.

  64.    UPGRADE INFORMATION
  65.    
  66.    Please see the on-line help topic "Upgrade Information", for more
  67.    information on upgrading registered copies of CodePrint.

  70.    OVERVIEW
  71.  
  72.    CodePrint is a Windows 3.1 program used for printing ASCII text files
  73.    on any printer supported by Windows. You can easily select one or more
  74.    files to print with control over how the text is formatted on the
  75.    page. You can open and save configurations that allow you to set page
  76.    formatting for the various text files that you normally print. For
  77.    example, if you are a programmer you can save a configuration for
  78.    printing your source code two-up on a page. To save on the amount of
  79.    paper used, CodePrint has a duplex printing option that allows
  80.    printing on both sides of the paper. A duplex printer is not required
  81.    but is supported. CodePrint features include:
  82.  
  83.       * Portrait or landscape paper orientation
  84.       * Multiple columns
  85.       * Headers and footers that you define including filename, date
  86.         and page number
  87.       * Change font, style and size
  88.       * Include border and/or column dividers
  89.       * Change left, top, right and bottom margins
  90.       * Change number of spaces used to expand tabs
  91.       * Automatic wrapping of text wider than column
  92.       * Option to print wrap symbol or turn it OFF
  93.       * Option to truncate lines at the right margin
  94.       * Option to include line numbers
  95.       * Open and save page configurations
  96.       * Compatible with Windows 3.1 Drag-and-Drop feature
  97.       * Duplex printing option - print on both sides of the paper
  98.       * Multiple instances of CodePrint allow you to drop files to
  99.         several configurations
  100.       * Maintains a list of most recently used (MRU) configurations

  102.    CodePrint is NOT compatible with Windows 3.0 or earlier versions.

  105.    KNOWN PROBLEMS
  106.  
  107.    The following are reported and known problems. In some cases these
  108.    problems may be hardware and/or configuration dependent and may not be
  109.    a problem in all cases. If any apply you should try using CodePrint
  110.    and report any problems you might have.
  111.  
  112.    1) There have been problems reported by some users with an HP Deskjet+
  113.    and Laserjet III printer installed. The following specific problems
  114.    have been reported.
  115.  
  116.       * Floating point error, CodePrint v1.15 with Deskjet+
  117.       * Prints file multiple times using Drag-and-Drop feature,
  118.         CodePrint v1.13, Laserjet IIP and III 
  119.  
  120.    Please note that the problems reported with the HP Laserjet are
  121.    isolated. The program has been tested with a Laserjet III with no
  122.    problems. If you are having a problem please let us know.
  123.    
  124.    If you do have problems using CodePrint, first make sure you have the
  125.    latest printer driver for the installed printer. One place to obtain
  126.    these drivers is from Microsoft Download Service using your modem. This
  127.    is a download service ONLY. The number is (206) 939-6735. If you still
  128.    have problems please contact us.

  130.    2) CodePrint v2.20 and higher supports printers with duplex printing
  131.    capability such as the HP Laserjet IID and IIID printers. If you select
  132.    the duplex option you want to use from Options on the Printer Setup
  133.    dialog box, CodePrint will take advantage of the printers duplex feature.

  135.    If duplex printing is not directly supported by your printer, CodePrint
  136.    can handle this internally by first printing the ODD pages and by
  137.    re-inserting the sheets it will print the EVEN pages. (See on-line help
  138.    for more information).

  140.    HP however does not recommend printing on both sides of the paper when
  141.    using their simplex printers. In light of this, if you have a simplex HP
  142.    printer, i.e. one that does not support a built-in duplex printing option,
  143.    you should NOT use the duplex option in CodePrint. If you need additional
  144.    information you should download the file DUPLEX.LJ from the LJ/LJII
  145.    library (2) in the HPPER forum on Compuserve or contact HP technical
  146.    support directly.

  148.    If you have a laser printer other than HP, you may want to test the
  149.    CodePrint duplex printing option. For example, this feature was developed
  150.    using a TI OmniLaser, which does not directly support duplex printing, with
  151.    no problems and very good print quality when printing on both sides of the
  152.    paper.

  155.    FUTURE ENHANCEMENTS

  164.    SHAREWARE DISTRIBUTION OF CodePrint
  165.  
  166.    You are granted permission to use the shareware version of CodePrint
  167.    for evaluation for a period of 21 days. You can make copies of the
  168.    shareware version and distribute them to anyone as long as all the
  169.    original unmodified files, as listed above, remain together. You are
  170.    prohibited from charging, or requesting donations for any such
  171.    copies. If you are a disk vendor, you should read the file VENDORS.TXT
  172.    for additional information.

  174.    Unregistered use of CodePrint pass the 21-day evaluation period is in
  175.    violation of Federal Copyright Laws.
  176.  
  177.    CodePrint is not free. This license allows you to use CodePrint for
  178.    evaluation purposes, without charge, for a period of 21 days. If you
  179.    use this software after the 21 day evaluation period a registration
  180.    fee of $20 is required (foreign orders require $5 shipping and
  181.    handling). Payments must be in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank, and
  182.    should be sent to Micro Software Solutions, PO Box 851504, Richardson,
  183.    TX 75085-1504, USA. Please use the registration/order form REGORDER.FRM.

  185.    latest version of CodePrint on disk.
