echo To set up your maintenance schedule, you may want to follow this
echo example: I first entered all the objects (pieces of equipment
echo to be maintained). The program sorts each object and each oper-
echo ation in alphabetical order. Then the operations were recorded
echo for each object. Since many objects had similar names, I ended
echo up spending too much time scanning for the appropriate object
echo when 'Entering details of an operation just performed'.
pause
echo I decided we (you and I) need a quick way to pinpoint the ob-
echo ject we want to update. A unique index number for each ob-
echo ject looks like the answer. First I entered information about
echo all the objects I wanted to track, without regard to how they
echo were going to be indexed.
echo ...
echo Then I simply selected item one (1) on the main menu (add or
echo edit an object), selected (C) (Change) and typed the letter
echo 'a'. the first object appearing under the letter A received
echo the index number 001. Please note that when you start to type
echo the new number, the object name disappears...but if you press
echo escape and start typing the number again, it stays on screen.
echo You can follow the procedure I've just outlined, or you can
echo sort your objects by plant, building, or some other category
echo and give them unique index number ranges. For example, vehicles
echo could all be V's or 1000's; yard work, Y's or Y200's; pumps could
echo be 300's and so on. It's up to you.
pause
echo The point is that updating the MAINTENANCE JUST PERFORMED becomes
echo less of a chore with unique numbers assigned to each object. In
echo fact, most of it can be done from the NUMERIC KEYPAD alone...
echo An added plus is the ease of selection of a group of objects
echo for reporting purposes.
pause
echo For example, one of my clients has a string of lift stations
echo and two separate treatment plants for which he needs
echo maintenance schedules printed. The solution there is simple,
echo too. For Pump number one in Liftstation 15, the entry looks
echo like this: 0250, LS15, Pump 1, (further details if needed).
echo He can then sort objects by index number (0250), or all objects
echo belonging to liftstations (LS), by that particular liftstation
echo (LS15), or he could get reports on all objects with the word
echo 'pump' in them. With a little experimentation, you can set up
echo your maintenance schedule to fit your situation.

echo No warranty of any kind is provided for this program. However,
echo if you receive a defective (unreadable) diskette, please call
echo for an immediate replacement. All diskettes are scanned for
echo viruses and trojan horses prior to release.
pause
echo Your best bet if you need assistance is to call Headworks
echo Computer Services at (509) 633-0120. Please leave daytime
echo and evening phone numbers if you don't mind evening callbacks
echo Thanks for checking this out.
pause
echo One more note: Don't be concerned if you decide to change an
echo object name and you see the message "deleting object"; it's
echo just removing the old name and then updates all your scheduling
echo data with the new name.
echo This program may also be started by typing "maintain" (no quotes)
echo at the dos prompt (avoids this commercial).
echo Happy computing!
echo If you've downloaded this program from a BBS and decide to regis-
echo ter it, please let me know which BBS so I can share some of the
echo profits with the sysop, to help support his/her BBS.
echo Thanks.
