The accompanying file, FLXBIL52.EXE, is a self-extracting archive
containing FleXiBill FreeWare version 5.2, a small-business
invoicing and accounts receivable program. A quick summary of
FleXibill v 5.2 features:
* unlimited database size
* compiled executable code resulting in extremely fast
database operations
* tracking of customers' Balance Due and Credit Balance
* flexible user control of account code names, bill numbers,
quantities, and descriptions
* COMPLETELY FREE - no strings, no registration, no guilt trips
NOTE: This is an upgrade to FleXiBill 5.0, released earlier
** IF YOU ARE ALREADY A FLEXIBILL 5.0 USER **
-- and you have entered a substantial number of records in your
databases already, you will want to use the UPGRADE.EXE utility
provided to transfer records from your existing FleXiBill 5.0
databases to the new ones. To do this, rename your 5.0
CUSTOMER.DBF (customer database) to CUST50.DBF, and place it with
your existing FORMS.DBF (jobs database) into a different
subdirectory than your FleXibill 5.0 files. Then copy the
FleXiBill 5.2 files into the new subdirectory, enter that
subdirectory, and type UPGRADE<Enter>. Detailed instructions are
provided in the new documentation file, FXB52.DOC, under the
subheading "UPGRADING TO FLEXIBILL VERSION 5.2."
To use the software for the first time, create a subdirectory on
your hard disk, e.g.:
MD \FXB<Enter>
Then, assuming you have placed FLXBIL52.EXE in a subdirectory
called TEMP, type:
TEMP\FLXBIL52 \FXB
and all files contained in the archive will be copied into the
FXB subdirectory. You may also specify the full path, including
the drive if necessary, e.g. "C:\TEMP\FLXBIL52 D:\FXB". You may
choose to run the software from a floppy disk instead, but it
requires about 250k of total space, and the databases will grow.
The documentation file is pre-formatted for a generic printer,
containing no control codes. If you wish to send it to your
printer, type:
COPY FXB52.DOC PRN:<Enter> or COPY FXB52.DOC LPT1:<Enter>
You can view it on your screen by typing:
TYPE FXB52.DOC /P
or
TYPE FXB52.DOC | MORE
depending on the level of DOS you are using, and whether or not
you have place the MORE.COM utility in a subdirectory accessible
to MS-DOS through your AUTOEXEC.BAT "PATH" statement. You may
also view the file with any word processor or text editor, Sandi
& Shane Stump's PC-SWEEP utility (<V>iew option), or numerous
ShareWare LIST and VIEW utilities. Be aware, however, that if you
attempt to PRINT the file using WordPerfect, WordStar, Q-Edit, or
any other word processor or text editor, you may get strange
pagination results, because the text is ALREADY indented from the
left edge and separated into 55-line numbered pages.
You should find the program user-friendly, intuitive and easy to
operate even if you don't bother with the documentation; however,
it contains hints and suggestions that could save you time,
trouble and money.
Good luck!
