  2.                CENTRAL POINT ANTI-VIRUS SIGNATURE UPDATE

  4. *Signature File Update Information for DOS Versions 2.0 and Later Versions*
  5.  
  6. The self-extracting archive file named V2SIG.EXE is for users of Central
  7. Point Anti-Virus Version 2.0 and all future versions.  It contains an update
  8. file that includes the latest virus signatures available.
  9.  
  10. This update works with Central Point Anti-Virus Version 2.0 or later.
  11.  
  12. To update your version of Central Point Anti-Virus, follow these steps:
  13.  
  14. 1. If you are on CompuServe or the Central Point BBS, download the
  15.    self-extracting archive file as V2SIG.EXE to a temporary directory
  16.    on your hard drive.
  17.  
  18.    If you have the Central Point Anti-Virus Signature Disk, copy the
  19.    self-extracting archive file V2SIG.EXE to a temporary directory on
  20.    your hard drive.
  21.  
  22. 2. Run V2SIG.EXE to extract the update signature file, SMARTSIG.CPS, the 
  23.    Read Me file, V2SIG.TXT, which contains this file and an updated
  24.    list of virus signatures included in the SMARTSIG.CPS file, and
  25.    VIRULIST.CPS, which updates the virus list for CPAV version 2.1 or later.

  27. -NOTE:  VIRULIST.CPS is only for DOS CPAV 2.1 or later, it is not needed for
  28.         2.0.  If it is installed it will create duplicates in the list.
  29.  
  30. 3. If you have CPAV 2.0 copy the SMARTSIG.CPS file to the directory 
  31.    on your hard drive containing the Central Point Anti-Virus files.  If you
  32.    have CPAV 2.1 copy the SMARTSIG.CPS and the VIRULIST.CPS file to the
  33.    directory on your hard drive containing the Central Point Anti-Virus files.

  35. 4. Reboot your computer to allow VSAFE to read in the new signatures.
  36.  
  37. 5. Run the Central Point Anti-Virus program.
  38.  
  39. There are some virus signatures included in the SMARTSIG.CPS file that have
  40. the same name as viruses already detected by your version of Central Point
  41. Anti-Virus.  As new variants of viruses are found, we may add the
  42. variant signature to the signature file to increase the virus detection
  43. capability.  Since the name of the variant is, in most cases, the same as
  44. the original virus name, it will show up in the virus list only once and
  45. will not be added to the total virus count.
