  6.            Loading New Definitions
  7.  
  8. To update NAV 3.0 or NAV for NetWare 1.0 with new virus definitions,
  9. do the following:
  10.  
  11. Note:  The files contained on this disk, referred to as a virus
  12.        definition update set, completely replaces the corresponding
  13.        files contained within the product.  Only the latest virus
  14.        definition set is required to update the product.
  15.

  18. For NAV 3.0, from DOS:
  19.  
  20. 1) Insert the definition update disk into the floppy disk drive.
  21.    (The example below uses A: drive.)
  22.  
  23. 2) To update the definition files, type the following at the DOS prompt:
  24.  
  25.    COPY A:\NAV30\VIR*.* C:\NAV
  26.  
  27.    where "C:\NAV" is the directory where your antivirus software is
  28.    installed.
  29.  
  30. 3) Run NAV and invoke the scanning of a file, directory, or drive.
  31.    (Running NAV to scan something will make NAV recognize that a new
  32.     VIRSCAN.DAT is in place and rebuild the TSR components of NAV with
  33.     the new definition set.)

  35. 4) Reboot so that the new TSRs will be in effect.

  39. For NAV 3.0, from WIN:
  40.  
  41. 1) Insert the definition update disk into the floppy disk drive.
  42.      (The example below uses A: drive.)
  43.  
  44. 2) Execute the Windows File Manager or other Windows shell program that
  45.    supports FILE/COPY operations.  The Windows File Manager can be invoked
  46.    from within the Windows Main Program Group or by entering WINFILE.EXE on
  47.    the FILE/RUN menu.
  48.  
  49. 3) Select the A: drive and \NAV30 directory by clicking on the A: drive icon
  50.    and then clicking on the \NAV30 directory.
  51.  
  52. 4) Use the FILE menu and COPY selection to invoke the copy file dialog.
  53.    Fill in the copy file dialog with the following information:
  54.      (where "C:\NAV" is the directory where your antivirus software is
  55.      installed.)
  56.  
  57.      Source:       A:\NAV30\VIR*.*
  58.  
  59.      Destination:  C:\NAV
  60.  
  61.    Click on OK to execute the copy.
  62.  
  63. 5) Invoke NAV to scan a file, directory, or drive.
  64.    (Running NAV to scan something will make NAV recognize that a new
  65.     VIRSCAN.DAT is in place and rebuild the TSR components of NAV with
  66.     the new definition set.)

  68.    Note:  An alternative to the above procedure is to activate a DOS box
  69.       from within Windows and follow the DOS installation procedure.

  71. 6) Exit Windows.  Reboot so that the new TSRs will be in effect.

  75. For NAVUPDATE (Network Copy of NAV for distribution by NAVUPDATE), from DOS:

  77. 1) Insert the definition update disk into the floppy disk drive.
  78.    (The example below uses A: drive.)

  80. 2) To update the definition files, type the following at the DOS prompt:

  82.    COPY A:\NAV30\VIR*.* F:\ADMIN\NAVUPDAT

  84.    where "F:\ADMIN\NAVUPDAT" is the directory where NAVUPDATE resides.

  90. 3) The new definition files are now in place.

  94. For NAV for NetWare 1.0, from DOS:
  95.  
  96. 1) Map a drive letter (the example below uses H:) to the volume and
  97.    directory where NAV for NetWare is installed.
  98.  
  99. 2) Insert the definition update disk into the floppy drive 
  100.    (the example below uses A:).
  101.  
  102. 3) To update the definition files, type the following at the DOS prompt:
  103.  
  104.    COPY A:\NAV30\VIR*.* H:
  105.  
  106.    where H: is mapped to the volume/directory where NAV for NetWare is
  107.    installed.
  108.  
  109. 4) Disable, then Enable, NAV for NetWare, using either the NAV for NetWare
  110.    Windows configuration component, or at the server console using the
  111.    function keys.  This loads the new definitions for use.
