4DOS/NT 1.0 rev F ==> 1.01 Patch Documentation
October 13, 1993

[PLEASE NOTE: This product is named "4DOS", and this version is more fully
described as "4DOS for the Windows NT Operating System". For brevity, in
this file and throughout our documentation we refer to "4DOS for Windows
NT", to "4DOS/NT", or to the program file name, 4NT.EXE or 4NT. When
"4DOS" is used by itself the reference is to our DOS product.]
This file explains how to install the 4DOS/NT 1.01 patch for 4NT.EXE.
To use this patch, you must have the PATCH.EXE program uploaded by JP
Software. This program is in a separate file, PATCH.ZIP or PATCH4D.ZIP
(depending on your download source). Instructions for running the PATCH
program are in the file PATCH.DOC which is distributed with PATCH.EXE.
PATCH.EXE should be in the same directory as the files to be patched, or in
a directory on your PATH.
Before using this patch, you must determine the revision level of your copy
of 4DOS/NT. To do so, use the command:
VER /R
and find the "4DOS/NT revision level" in the output. If you have 4DOS/NT
version 1.0 revision F, you can use this patch file. If you have an
earlier revision, download the file 4NT10F.ZIP which contains patch files
to bring earlier revisions up to revision F. Apply those patches, then
restart 4DOS/NT, use the VER /R command to check that it has been properly
upgraded to revision F, then apply this version 1.01 patch.
This patch file modifies 4NT.EXE only. All other files are unchanged in
version 1.01. Branding (name and serial number) information in your
original 4NT.EXE file will be preserved by the patching process.
To apply this patch, copy the PAT101.RTP file to the directory where
4NT.EXE is stored. Then exit from all sessions running 4DOS/NT, start a
CMD.EXE session, change to the 4NT.EXE directory, and enter the command:
patch pat101
[Some of our documentation for PATCH.EXE shows a period between the program
name (PATCH) and the patch file name, for example:
patch . pat101
This period may be used but is not required.]
This patch fixes the minor bugs and anomalies in 4DOS/NT 1.0 revision F
which are listed below:
* Critical errors did not always pop up correctly.
* DIR would sometimes continue after an Abort response on a critical
error.
* The mouse cursor is now turned off while in full-screen mode.
* COPY and MOVE did not always work properly with odd filenames like
"XYZ.TEST.EXE" when wildcards were used.
* The following problems within Windows NT required workarounds in
4DOS/NT:
Error messages were not displayed correctly when using a non-US
default language.
Character devices were not always recognized properly.
Non-standard keyboard codes were disabling the use of Alt-0
through Alt-9 within 4DOS/NT.
When a program tried to do direct hardware access the resulting
critical error would display garbage on the screen.
It was not possible to execute programs with unusual executable
filenames like "XYZ.TEST.EXE" on NTFS and HPFS volumes.
Problems with pipes could prevent %@SELECT[con] from working
properly.
Errors in reporting of the screen buffer size could cause
incorrect displays from DRAWBOX, SCRPUT, etc.
