  113.      a non-commercial environment.  After sixty days  the  product must be -

  183.      We decided to release this version so soon as it was ready for the  -
  184.      public, Since there are so many ZyRion Versions, and to keep the Sysop
  185.      Version and Beta Version compatible with the user Version, we released
  186.      this one!

  188.      In compare with ZMODEM, ZYRION uses another way to send his packets also
  189.      the CRC method has been taken out of the loop, since DFC was a better -
  190.      method to support the Bit Matrix Shift BMS[HI] and BMS[LO] sequences.

  195.      MLock has been added, if you SET the MLOCK environment you can change the
  196.      ZyRion BMS[HI] and BMS[LO] Switch frames, IF you set "SET MLOCK=4" then -
  197.      ZyRion will try to send the first 4 subpackets in FAST High mode instead
  198.      of LOW & HI Mode.
  199.  
  200.      This will give a fast start, 20480 bytes in 8 seconds at 14400 baud.
  201.      Set MLOCK to 8 will give 40516 bytes in less then 18 seconds at the same
  202.      speed, however IF you set this to high, ZyRion will lockup.
  203.  
  204.      MLOCK has one purpose, and that is to get the first X subpackets out so
  205.      fast as your Modem can handle it, a Safe margin would be 2!
  206.      
  207.      Some tests of ZYRION protocol error recovery performance have been
  208.      made.  A PC-AT with SCO SYS V Xenix or DOS 6.0 was connected to a PC
  209.      with DOS 3.1 either directly at 9600 bps or with unbuffered dial-up
  210.      1200 bps modems.  The ZYRION software was configured to use 2048
  211.      byte data subpacket lengths above 2400 bps, 1024 otherwise.
  212.  
  213.      Because no time delays are necessary in normal file transfers, per
  214.      file negotiations are much faster than with ZMODEM, the only
  215.      observed delay being the time required by the program(s) to update
  216.      matrix coded buffers.
  217.  
  218.      During a file transfer, a short line hit seen by the receiver
  219.      usually induces a DFC error.  The interrupt sequence is usually seen
  220.      by the sender before the next data subpacket is completely sent, and
  221.      the resultant loss of data throughput averages about half a data
  222.      subpacket per line hit.  At 1200 bps this is would be about .75
  223.      second lost per hit.  At 10-5 error rate, this would degrade
  224.      throughput by about 9 per cent.
  225.  
  226.      The throughput degradation increases with increasing channel delay,
  227.      as more data subpackets in transit through the channel are discarded
  228.      when an error is detected.
  229.  
  230.      A longer noise burst that affects both the receiver and the sender's
  231.      reception of the interrupt sequence usually causes the sender to
  232.      remain silent until the receiver times out in 6 seconds.  If the
  233.      round trip channel delay exceeds the receiver's 6 second timeout,
  234.      recovery from this type of error may become difficult.

  236.      Noise affecting only the sender is usually ignored, with one common
  237.      exception.
  238.  
  239.      In summation, ZYRION performance in the presence of errors resembles
  240.      that of ZMODEM or TMODEM, ZMAX e.c  Short  bursts cause minimal data
  241.      retransmission.
  242.  
  243.      Long bursts (such as pulse dialing noises) often require a timeout error
  244.      to restore the flow of data.
  245.  
  246.      Unlike traditional and many recently introduced protocols, ZYRION
  247.      Signature Pulse safeguards all data and supervisory information with
  248.      effective error detection.
  249.  
  250.      ZYRION rapidly transfers files, particularly with buffered (error
  251.      correcting) modems, timesharing systems, satellite relays, and wide area
  252.      packet switched networks.
  253.  
  254.      User Friendliness is an important ZYRION feature.  ZYRION AutoDownload
  255.      (Automatic file Download initiated without user intervention) greatly
  256.      simplifies file transfers compared to the traditional protocols.
  257.  
  258.      ZMODEM also has this feature (it was the first one), and ZYRION folows
  259.      this step.
  260.  
  261.      ZYRION provides advanced file management features including Crash
  262.      Recovery, flexible control of selective file transfers, and security
  263.      USER "coded in the key" verified sequence.
  264.  
  265.      ZYRION protocol features allow implementation on a wide variety of systems
  266.      operating in a wide variety of environments.  A choice of buffering and
  267.      windowing modes allows ZYRION to operate on systems that cannot support
  268.      other streaming protocols.  Finely tuned control character escaping allows
  269.      operation with real world networks without Kermit's high overhead.

  271.      ZYRION and ZMODEM are the only high performance high reliability public
  272.      protocols that does not require large buffer allocations for normal file
  273.      transfers.

  275.      This feature makes ZYRION one of the best protocols on the marked today.
