  16. RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive is a fully functional shareware, not a 
  17. "crippleware." Upon registration, you will receive a registered version 
  18. of RainbowFAX Lite, which is functionally identical to this program.

  20. RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive is a personal communications program
  21. based on the innovative SoftFAX(tm) technology. It allows a computer 
  22. equipped with a standard modem to send color pictures, electronic mail 
  23. messages, and files to another personal computer in a similar manner as 
  24. a fax machine does.

  26. RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive makes use of the SoftFAX technology which
  27. encompasses the following features: (1) Transparent Data Compression 
  28. allows data to be compressed before transmission and decompressed 
  29. after transmission without any human intervention. You can "softfax" 
  30. wordprocessing or spreadsheet files at an average rate of 16 pages per
  31. minute with a 2400 bps modem. (2) Windowed and Adaptive Protocol
  32. designed specifically for reliable, error-free telephone communications 
  33. outperforms today's most popular file transfer protocols, especially 
  34. when transmitting data through noisy long distance phone lines.

  77. BEFORE YOU BEGIN

  80.      To use RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive, you need:

  82.          MS-DOS based computer (XT, AT, 386 or 486)
  83.          512K bytes of conventional memory
  84.          Floppy drive
  85.          Hard disk with 1.5 MB of free space
  86.          Hayes-compatible modem
  87.          Hercules, CGA, EGA, or VGA card and monitor
  88.          DOS version 3.0 or later

  90.      If you received RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive in floppy disk(s), you
  91.      may skip to the next section. The following material is for people
  92.      who downloaded RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive from bulletin boards.

  94.      If you downloaded RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive from a bulletin board
  95.      service, check to make sure that you have the following files 
  96.      after unpacking the file you downloaded:

  98.          README.TXT -- the file you are now reading
  99.          DISK1.ZIP  -- distribution disk #1 of RainbowFAX Lite
  100.                        Test Drive in compressed form
  101.          DISK2.ZIP  -- distribution disk #2 of RainbowFAX Lite
  102.                        Test Drive in compressed form

  104.      Before you can install RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive on your hard 
  105.      disk, you need to create the RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive 
  106.      distribution disks as follows:
  107.  
  108.          1. Format two floppy disks in your drive A. Label them
  109.             "disk #1" and "disk #2".
  110.  
  111.          2. Put "disk #1" into drive A. Go to the directory
  112.             containing DISK1.ZIP and enter the following command:
  113.                   PKUNZIP DISK1.ZIP A:
  114.             (If you do not have the PKUNZIP program, you can 
  115.             download it from almost any BBS.)
  116.  
  117.          3. Put "disk #2" into drive A. Go to the directory
  118.             containing DISK2.ZIP and enter the following command:
  119.                   PKUNZIP DISK2.ZIP A:
  120.  
  121.      Now you can use the two floppy disks to install RainbowFAX Lite
  122.      Test Drive on your hard disk.

  126. QUICK START

  129.      In the following instructions, "[ENTER]" means pressing the "Enter"
  130.      or "Return" key of your keyboard.
  131.  
  132.      1. Put distribution disk #1 into floppy drive A.
  133.  
  134.      2. Change your current drive to drive A as follows:
  135.             A: [ENTER]
  136.  
  137.      3. Run the installation program as follows:
  138.             INSTALL [ENTER]
  139.  
  140.      4. Follow the instructions on the screen. If you are not sure of
  141.         the answer to any question, simply press the "Enter" or "Return" 
  142.         key, and the program will choose an answer most suitable for 
  143.         you. When you are asked for the permission to modify your
  144.         AUTOEXEC.BAT file, please answer yes.
  145.  
  146.      5. Reboot (turn off and on) your computer after the installation
  147.         process is completed. Make sure that you are in DOS after
  148.         rebooting. You should see a digital clock on the top right-
  149.         hand corner of your screen after rebooting.
  150.  
  151.      6. Type the following command:
  152.             RFAX [ENTER]
  153.         at DOS prompt and you will see the fax machine panel of
  154.         RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive within seconds.
  155.  
  156.      7. If you have used a fax machine before, you can probably
  157.         use RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive immediately without reading
  158.         the manual. Alternatively, you may read section 3 of the
  159.         MANUAL.TXT file to get more familiar with RainbowFAX Lite 
  160.         Test Drive before actually using it.

  165.        After installing RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive, it will 
  166.        automatically pickup your calls whenever the phone rings. This 
  167.        feature allows the program to receive data at any time. If this 
  168.        is not what you want, you can tell RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive to 
  169.        pickup phone calls only within a specific time period. The time 
  170.        period in which RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive is allowed to pickup 
  171.        phone calls is called the "reception window". You can set the
  172.        "Reception ON time" and "Reception OFF time" to any values that
  173.        suits you. Refer to section 4.6 of the manual for details.

  180.      RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive is a commercial shareware. You are allowed 
  181.      to evaluate it for 30 days. After that, you should either register 
  182.      or stop using RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive. Please read the licensing 
  183.      agreement in the MANUAL.TXT file. Note that we did not put any 
  184.      protection in our software to refrain you from using RainbowFAX Lite 
  185.      Test Drive for more than 30 days, and we would like you to 
  186.      reciprocate that trust by registering.
  187.      
  188.      To register, simply follow the instructions in the REGISTER.TXT 
  189.      file. You will receive the latest version of RainbowFAX Lite upon 
  190.      registration. Registered users are also entitled to receive 
  191.      technical support and news about future upgrades.
