  10. Congratulations. You have received an interesting and unique communica-
  11. tions program that will change the way you work and play over the next 30
  12. days. RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive is a fully functional shareware, not 
  13. a "crippleware." Upon registration, you will receive a registered version 
  14. of RainbowFAX Lite, which is functionally identical to this program.
  15.  
  16. RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive is a personal communications program
  17. based on the innovative SoftFAX(tm) technology. It allows a computer 
  18. equipped with a standard modem to "fax" color pictures, quick notes, 
  19. and files to another personal computer in an easy to use manner 
  20. similar to a fax machine. 
  21.  
  22. Note: 
  23.  
  24. 1.  RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive works with virtually any Hayes 
  25.     compatible modems. For some modems, you may need a correct 
  26.     modem initialization string to operate properly. See the attached 
  27.     manual to configure a non-standard modem yourself. Alternatively, 
  28.     You may call our Technical Support BBS for a current list of 
  29.     modems and initialization strings supported.
  30.  
  31. 2.  RainbowFAX is NOT designed to send to or receive from normal 
  32.     (Group III) black & white fax machines.

  35. BEFORE YOU BEGIN

  38.      To use RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive, you need:
  39.  
  40.          MS-DOS based computer (XT, AT, 386 or 486)
  41.          512K bytes of conventional memory
  42.          Floppy drive
  43.          Hard disk with 1.5 MB of free space
  44.          Hayes-compatible modem (300 bps or greater)
  45.          Hercules, CGA, EGA, or VGA card and monitor
  46.          DOS version 3.0 or later
  47.  
  48.      If you received RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive in floppy disk(s), you
  49.      may skip to the next section. The following material is for people
  50.      who downloaded RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive from bulletin boards.
  51.  
  52.      If you downloaded RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive from a bulletin board
  53.      service, check to make sure that you have the following files 
  54.      after unpacking the file you downloaded:
  55.  
  56.          README.TXT -- the file you are now reading
  57.          RFAXD1.ZIP -- distribution disk #1 of RainbowFAX Lite
  58.                        Test Drive in compressed form
  59.          RFAXD2.ZIP -- distribution disk #2 of RainbowFAX Lite
  60.                        Test Drive in compressed form
  61.  
  62.      Before you can install RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive on your hard 
  63.      disk, you need to create the RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive 
  64.      distribution disks as follows:
  65.  
  66.          1. Format two floppy disks in your drive A. Label them
  67.             "disk #1" and "disk #2".
  68.  
  69.          2. Put "disk #1" into drive A. Go to the directory
  70.             containing RFAXD1.ZIP and enter the following command:
  71.                   PKUNZIP RFAXD1.ZIP A:
  72.             (If you do not have the PKUNZIP program, you can 
  73.             download it from almost any BBS.)
  74.  
  75.          3. Put "disk #2" into drive A. Go to the directory
  76.             containing RFAXD2.ZIP and enter the following command:
  77.                   PKUNZIP RFAXD2.ZIP A:
  78.  
  79.      Now you can use these two floppy disks to install RainbowFAX Lite
  80.      Test Drive on your hard disk. Keep these two disk for de-installation
  81.      or for installation on other computers.

  85. QUICK START
  86. -----------

  88.      In the following instructions, "[ENTER]" means pressing the "Enter"
  89.      or "Return" key of your keyboard.
  90.  
  91.      1. Put distribution disk #1 into floppy drive A.
  92.  
  93.      2. Change your current drive to drive A as follows:
  94.             A: [ENTER]
  95.  
  96.      3. Run the installation program as follows:
  97.             INSTALL [ENTER]
  98.  
  99.      4. Follow the instructions on the screen. If you are not sure of
  100.         the answer to any question, simply press the "Enter" or "Return" 
  101.         key, and the program will choose an answer most suitable for 
  102.         you. When you are asked for the permission to modify your
  103.         AUTOEXEC.BAT file, please answer yes.
  104.  
  105.      5. Reboot (turn off and on) your computer after the installation
  106.         process is completed. Make sure that you are in DOS after
  107.         rebooting. You should see a digital clock on the top right-
  108.         hand corner of your screen after rebooting.
  109.  
  110.      6. Make sure that you have RFAX directory in your path. And,     
  111.         type the following command:
  112.             
  113.             RFAX [ENTER]
  114.  
  115.         at DOS prompt and you will see the fax machine panel of
  116.         RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive within seconds.
  117.  
  118.      7. If you have used a fax machine before, you can probably
  119.         use RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive immediately without reading
  120.         the manual. Alternatively, you may read section 3 of the
  121.         MANUAL.TXT file to get more familiar with RainbowFAX Lite 
  122.         Test Drive before actually using it.

  125. Note:
  126.  
  127.        After installing RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive, it will 
  128.        automatically pickup your calls whenever the phone rings. This 
  129.        feature allows the program to receive data at any time. If this 
  130.        is not what you want, you can tell RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive to 
  131.        pickup phone calls only within a specific time period. The time 
  132.        period in which RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive is allowed to pickup 
  133.        phone calls is called the "reception window". You can set the
  134.        "Reception ON time" and "Reception OFF time" to any values that
  135.        suits you. Refer to section 4.6 of the manual for details.

  139. IMPORTANT INFORMATION
  140. ---------------------

  142.      RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive is a commercial shareware. You are can 
  143.      evaluate it for 30 days. After that, you should either register 
  144.      or stop using RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive. Please read the licensing 
  145.      agreement in the MANUAL.TXT file. Note that we did not put any 
  146.      protection in our software to refrain you from using RainbowFAX Lite 
  147.      Test Drive for more than 30 days, and we would like you to 
  148.      reciprocate that trust by registering.
  149.      
  150.      To register, simply follow the instructions in the REGISTER.TXT 
  151.      file. Or, you may register on-line with COMPUSERVE (GO SWREG). 
  152.      You will receive the latest version of RainbowFAX Lite upon 
  153.      registration. Registered users are also entitled to receive 
  154.      technical support and news about future upgrades.
