PROCOMM PLUS for Windows
Version 1.02 Dialing Directory patch - READ.ME
IMPORTANT: Please note that this Dialing Directory patch should ONLY
be applied to the U.S. release of PROCOMM PLUS for Windows version 1.02! The
patch will have no effect upon the EC, French or German versions.
If you are using either version 1.00 or 1.01, you must download the
maintenance patch (PW100.EXE for those using version 1.00, PW101.EXE for
those using version 1.01) which will update the program to version 1.02.
These maintenance patches are available on the Datastorm Distribution BBS
(314-875-0503) and our CompuServe Forum (GO DATASTORM).
About the Dialing Directory Patch
---------------------------------
The U.S. PROCOMM PLUS for Windows version 1.02 release contains a bug that
can corrupt the data in your Dialing Directory under rare circumstances.
Examples of this corruption include phone numbers appearing in the Name field
and baudrates appearing in the Telephone Number field.
Applying this patch will prevent version 1.02 from corrupting the Dialing
Directory; however, it CANNOT correct Dialing Directories which have been
previously corrupted. If you believe your Dialing Directory has been
corrupted, you should create a new directory and enter your information into
it. We do not advise cutting and pasting the information, since this could
inadvertently paste corrupted data into the new directory - to avoid this,
enter the data manually.
This patch also corrects a timing problem which can occur on some machines when
closing down PROCOMM PLUS for Windows with a Capture file open.
Lastly, additional logic has been added to Kermit to truncate long mainframe
filenames to legal DOS filenames.
Applying the Patch to PROCOMM PLUS for Windows version 1.02
-----------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT: Do not perform the update while running Windows! Be sure to exit
Windows completely and perform the update from the DOS prompt.
Follow these steps to apply the Dialing Directory patch:
1. Since you've already executed DIALDR.EXE, copy the four files it has
created - PATCH.EXE, DIALDIR.RTP, APPLY.EXE, and READ.ME - to your
PROCOMM PLUS for Windows "home" directory. The home directory contains
all of your PW executables; these files end with the extension
".EXE". Note that if PW.EXE is missing from this directory, the patch
process will be aborted.
2. Next, change to your PROCOMM PLUS for Windows home directory. From
the DOS prompt, type
APPLY
and press Enter. This will display status and error messages as necessary.
3. After PW.EXE has been successfully updated, the patch program
automatically deletes the files included in the archive. However, you should
delete DIALDR.EXE and any remaining copies of the archive files (PATCH.EXE,
DIALDIR.RTP, APPLY.EXE, and READ.ME) to conserve disk space.
Thank you for your continued support of PROCOMM PLUS for Windows, the
standard in Windows communications software!
