David's Telix Utilities version 1.2
This is a short documentation to the DGU.SLC script
for Telix.
The DGU script runs under Telix 3.12 and higher.
It adds filetaging from the screen/BBS, filetaging
from your harddisc/floppy, simplified login and some
other nice features for file downloading and uploading.
If you use DGU you will never have to type a filename
inside Telix anymore!
Files included when distributed:
DGU.DOC This documentation.
DGU.SLC The main script file. Can not bee run by itself.
DG*.SLC The script files you use to run DGU.
DG*.SLT Source to the DG*.SLC files so you can see
how DGU.SLC should bee started. So you can
include DGU in one of your own utilities.
Installing:
DGU is preferably installed "under a key". That
is, installed so you simply can press a key to run
it. But you can not run DGU.SLC by itself. It must
bee run from one of it's helpfiles. Put all DG*.SLC
files in your Telix-script directory and then press
Alt-K inside Telix. Chose "Regular" and then "Edit".
Press the key you want "DGmain" to be installed under.
For instance F1 or F5. As key description you should
write "@DGmain" . But write it without the "".
"@" means the key should be defined as a script. Then
all you have to do is to save the new keydefinitions.
If you done it the right way Telix should suggest
"Telix.Key" as filename for the keydefinitions.
To test the script press the key you defined for
it and take a look. It should be pretty self explanatory.
All though some functions perhaps are a bit confusing.
The first time you try it I suggest you do it when
not connected to a BBS. The script does also run when
not connected. This is in fact one of the features
of the script. You can type (or tag from disc) the
files to upload or download to/from the BBS before
you connect to it.
Hints on using the script:
The script should be pretty self explanatory. But
there have proven too be one thing people do not figure
out. How should you erase a filename from the filelist
once you've tagged it? It's really simple. Go inte the
"file menu" and chose the filename you want to erase.
(Simply press the corresponding number or move there
with the arrow/tab keys and press enter.) When the
cursor stands in the beginning of the filenamefield
press enter. In that way you have manually typed in
a filename containing zero characters. Hence, you
have erased the filename.
Technical info:
This script puts a file "TELIX.DGU" in your Telix
directory when first run. This file contains the filenames,
filedescriptions, user names and passwords you specify
when you use DGU. In that way you can specify files
and DGU will remember the filenames even if you exit
Telix or turn your computer off.
If the BBS outputs any text while you'r using DGU
it will be printed as usual and when you exit DGU
the part of the screen behind the DGU window will
look allright. If the BBS starts to send you a file
using Zmodem Telix will autodownload as usual. So
try it, you'll like it!
Disclaimer:
I do not take any responsibility for any effects
of this script. Any use of the script is done on your
own risc. Why would I? You haven't payd mee to use
it! But I have tested it to run error free and there
should not bee any trouble.
