Ok, this might sound a little complicated, but its not, just follow
the instructions and you will have a great host mode.
Ok, dbbs is free, I dont mind if you change it around and copy it, do
whatever you like. I see that some people have already copied my ideas
and put them into their own little host programs, I dont mind.
Installing for COM1: - Put all the DBBS files in your telix directory.
- Place the GATEWAY1.SYS in your root directory
and install it in your CONFIG.SYS file (See Below)
- Run DBBSCOM1.SLC script in your TELIX (Just Hit ALT G)
- Delete DBBSCOM2.SLC, delete GATEWAY2.SYS (Not Needed)
Installing for COM2: - Put all the DBBS files in your telix directory.
- Place GATEWAY2.SYS in your root directory
and install it in your CONFIG.SYS file (See Below)
- Run DBBSCOM2.SLC script in your TELIX (Just Hit ALT G)
- Delete DBBS1.SLC, delete GATEWAY1.SYS (Not Needed)
==============================================================================
To validate people who log onto your bbs, you edit the file DBBSPASS.TLX
with any wordprocessor that saves in ascii.
In here you will find: (For Example..)
DENNIS SEATON;MYPASS;1 ──» New User 02-21-89 «──
GEORGE SMITH;HISPASS;2
the format is like this:
NAME;PASSWORD;ACCESS LEVEL COMMENT
To Validate some one simply change the 1 to a 2 or a 3
I suggest:
Level 1 For New or Bad users
Level 2 For Normal Users
Level 3 For Close Friends Only
Level 1 users have access to: Uploading, Chat, Message to sysop,
Logoff, Newuser Message, and Extra
Information.
Level 2 users have access to: Everything except the [S]hell,
the [K]ill BBS, the Dos [C]ommand,
and viewing the log file
Level 3 users have access to: Everything Of course!
*** NOTE ***
Using the ONLINE validation (F3 & F4 & F5) is not perminant,
you have to edit the DBBSPASS.TLX file or the next time they
logon they will be the level they were before.

access level they have. (USER CANNOT SEE THIS)
- A batch file which can be runned to load programs, (Soon to be

- Many more small changes.
I have included SAMPLE menus and batch files, the other files
(mentioned in the beginning) you can make (But they are optional)
you can edit the files with any old text editor.
I have changed the DBBS.LOG file into more then a log, it now
contians all the sysops information, such as everything that users
do while online, all the messages they leave, and answers to the
questionaires.
==============================================================================
Remeber - F10 shows you the sysop menu, try it while online.
- All the Sysop comments are in the DBBS.LOG file.
- The Newuser answers are in the DBBS.LOG
- The passwords & user list is stored in DBBSPASS.TLX
- To Load DBBS type ALT G while you are in telix, then
type DBBSCOM1 or DBBSCOM2
- When you validate someone online IT IS ONLINE FOR THE
ONE LOGON. Next time they logon they will be the level
they were before. To make it perminant edit the
dbbspass.tlx file as it says above.
- You have to put in your config file:
DEVICE = GATEWAY1.SYS (FOR COM1)
DEVICE = GATEWAY2.SYS (FOR COM2)
and have the GATEWAY1.SYS file in the directory where
you keep your COMMAND.COM file.
==============================================================================
WANTED: Someone to help me write a MESSAGE base for DBBS.
I have tried many times without success. Making it
display a message from a user to another user is not
a problem, but allowing the user to write a message
to another user, argh!
==============================================================================
Well thats it, alot of this script was not writen by me, i started
writing the script by editing the HOST.SLT file that came with telix,
but now I have changed over 50% of it. I also took alot of peoples
ideas and made them work them together.
I didnt put both copies of the SLT files in the archive this time
because they are too big, it has now grown to about 50K. I have
only put in the dbbs file for COM1 as an example of how it works.
Do what you like with this, it is free. I dont like it when people
copy it word for word and say it is there own, i have copied some
small parts from other people but i give them credit for it.
- JON FLEMING wrote the password system for DBBS
- The idea for dos functions and displaying who's
online was taken from BUZZHOST
- The basics for DBBS was taken from the HOST.CNF
that came with TELIX version 3.11
