  30. |
  31. |   This information is offered as a high-level overview
  32. |   to assist in installing Novell Netware
  33. |   requester and Communiations Manager/2
  34. |   to coexist in the same machine. Consult the appropriate
  35. |   publications for each product for complete information. It
  36. |   is recommended to do the planning tasks (fill out the
  37. |   worksheets, etc..) suggested by the individual products
  38. |   prior to their installation.
  39. |
  40. |   A.  Install OS/2 (base operating system). Make
  41. |       sure OS/2 is operable with no unresolved errors.
  42. |
  43. |   B.  The communication adapters (SDLC, 3270, LAN, etc...)
  44. |       should be physically installed in the workstation
  45. |       being configured.
  46. |       A version of LAPS, (LAN Adapter and Protocol Support)
  47. |       is used to install LAN adapter card interfaces.  LAPS
  48. |       can be installed by one of the following methods:
  49. |
  50. |       -If Extended Services was installed prior to the
  51. |        installation of Communications Manager/2, then the
  52. |        installation of Communications Manager/2 will remove
  53. |        the Communications Manager portion of ES1.
  54. |        Communication Manager/2 will keep the LAPS
  55. |        portion of Extended Services which can be used to
  56. |        install the adapter cards used by your LAN.
  57. |
  58. |       -If NTS/2, IBM Network Transport Services/2 (NTS/2) is
  59. |        used then programming interfaces (NetBIOS, IEEE
  60. |        802.2 and Network Driver Interface) are provided that
  61. |        can be used to install these adapter cards.
  62. |
  63. |       -If Lan Services Version 2 or Version 3 is available
  64. |        then a version of LAPS that can be used by
  65. |        Communications Manager/2 is shipped with the LAN
  66. |        Server product (one way to execute is to enter LAPS
  67. |        at a command line).
  68. |
  69. |   C. Install Communications Manager/2.  The CSD level should
  70. |      be WR06050 (apply Communications Manager/2 ServicePack
  71. |      if needed).  Communications Manager should be configured
  72. |      to support the required communications, and the final
  73. |      VERIFY must be completed with no unresolved errors.
  74. |
  75. |   D. CONFIG.SYS and PROTOCOL.INI should now be saved to a
  76. |      secure place (preferably not on the boot drive). These
  77. |      can be used if needed to return to this level of
  78. |      installation. Copy CONFIG.SYS to CNFIGNTV.SYS and
  79. |      PROTOCOL.INI to PROTONTV.INI (Native CONFIG.SYS and
  80. |      PROTOCOL.INI) for future reference.
  81. |
  82. |   E. There are two Lan Support modules commonly used for
  83. |      this configuration (LANSUPP (IBM) or ODINSUPP
  84. |      (NOVELL)). The planning tasks done earlier should help
  85. |      to decide which one is right for you. The OS/2 Lan
  86. |      Requester code (if used) should be installed now. The
  87. |      Novell Requester code should be installed last. IBM
  88. |      Flash 2129 (Document ID G010367) shows the recommended
  89. |      appearance of the CONFIG.SYS, PROTOCOL.INI, and the
  90. |      NET.CFG for both Lan Support Modules.  PROTOCOL.INI
  91. |      and NET.CFG must include the LAA address if used.
  92. |      ("ERROR GETTING CONNECTION ID error 880F, NWD0115" will
  93. |      be seen at startup if LAA is not consistant)
  94. |
  95. |        The NTS/2 product includes an additional protocol,
  96. |        ODI2NDI.  This protocol has been tested with LANSUPP.
  97. |        ODI2NDI Protocol should be installed after the
  98. |        successful installation of the NetWare requester.
  99. |
  100. |        The NTS/2 product includes an additional protocol,
  101. |        ODI2NDI.  This protocol has been tested with LANSUPP.
  102. |        ODI2NDI Protocol should be installed after the
  103. |        successful installation of the NetWare requester.
  104. |
  105. |      When the changes are complete, shut down the
  106. |      workstation and reboot (a "cold" boot to reset the
  107. |      adapter is recommended).
  108. |
  109. |   F. The installation is now complete. Copies of the current
  110. |      CONFIG.SYS, PROTOCOL.INI, and NET.CFG need to be saved
  111. |      after the the reboot to be used for future reference.
  112. |      Copy CONFIG.SYS to CNFIGREF.SYS, PROTOCOL.INI to
  113. |      PRTCLREF.INI, and NET.CFG to NETREF.CFG.
  114. |
  115. |3. 07/08/93  IMPORTANT NOTE.
  116. |
  117. |   Changes made in the Communications Manager/2 configuration
  118. |   will cause a "VERIFY". This VERIFY results in the
  119. |   PROTOCOL.INI (defined for coexistence between ES/1 and
  120. |   NetWare) being modified.
  121. |
  122. |   The reference copy of the PROTOCOL.INI (named
  123. |   PRTCLREF.INI) should be compared with the PROTOCOL.INI
  124. |   that was changed by the VERIFY. Note the updates made by
  125. |   VERIFY, copy PRTCLREF.INI to PROTOCOL.INI (overwriting
  126. |   PROTOCOL.INI made by VERIFY) then add the updates noted to
  127. |   PROTOCOL.INI. Make sure the CONFIG.SYS and NET.CFG look
  128. |   like the reference copies. A reboot is recommended,
  129. |   although an exit from Communications Manager/2
  130. |   and a restart may be all that is
  131. |   necessary. Insure that the workstation functions as
  132. |   desired. New reference copies should be made. Copy
  133. |   PROTOCOL.INI to PROTCLREF.INI, CONFIG.SYS to CNFIGREF.SYS,
  134. |   and NET.CFG to NETREF.CFG.
