In either case which ever box had the last FOCUS, that box will be
the expanded one. Each box has it's own set of commands, and con-
sequently displays them, if it is in FOCUS.
Note at the bottom of the screen, the Hyper-Help line changes as
each object on the form, receives FOCUS. Also there are many
secondary prompts built into the program that will assist you.

HELP BY OBJECT:
1$COMM Version 1.0 This identifies the parent program name and
version number.
When the mouse is moved across it, the Hyper
Help line changes, diplaying simple movement
commands.
The mouse cursor changes to a filled happy
face which smiles at you.
Baud Rate = 2400 Indicates the current selected baud rate.
This changes as per your selection in the
Directory List box. ie: if all of items
or "BBS's" in the directory have the same
baud rate, you won't notice any change, if
some are different, then you will.
>System Date< Displays your computer's system date.
>System Time< Displays your computer's system time.
CALL-> Displays current selected BBS to call.
Carrier Name Telephone Number Baud D S P A Macro File

+--------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Carrier Name You are given 20 columns to view or identify the BBS to call.
Telephone # Again 20 columns, you may use "()-{}[]* " and numbers 0 - 9
to display your number. All punctuation will be parsed.
Baud The baud rate that you can connect to the "BBS" with, usually
a number between 1200 & 38400.
D DataBits If you are unsure what to set this to, use 8,
unless you are calling Compuserve, then use 7.
S StopBits If you are unsure what to set this to, use 1.
P Parity If you are unsure what to set this to, use 0.
A This represents 1$COMM's emulation. One thing to understand
is that this program has no emmulation. It requires some
sort of ANSI driver. If A = A then all terminal operations
will be normal, ie ANSI. If A = T, then all Escape characters
will be removed from the receive buffer, and no ANSI detect
signal will be sent to the Host at connect time.
If you ever logged on to Compuserve, you may notice from time
to time stray ANSI codes, ones that clear the screen? Well,
with our "no-emmulation" terminal screen, you won't see the
clear the screen "ESC[0m" it will just happen, before you
even see the menu. So, thus, by removing or filtering this
character, we avoid this nuisance.
Summary: A for ANSI, T for TEXT.
Directory List List of items to call, add to, edit, remove.
Use the arrow keys to move up and down.

Make sure a selection is highlighted before selecting
a function. Highlight = Light green bar on line.

+< #######################################################################>+
This object allows you to view and edit, any text file including capture
and macro, files. All known "Basic DOS Edit" cursor commands will work,
such as ^DELETE, END, HOME, PGUP, PGDN, ect.
This box will hold 32,767 characters. If you try to load more than it can
hold, such as loading a 40k text file, it will load 1 less line than exceeds
it's capacity. Keep this in mind, when saving, otherwise you'll overwrite
and lose data.
1$COMM does not have a built in Script Language. Thus a macro file is only
used to send commands, to the Host. You may also send full ansi screens,
mail, tag lines, letters, ect. as one large block this way too. Put one
command per line, or type or draw naturally. You may use this editor or
any other. The actual file is also limited to a Basic String size of 32k.
If you try to exceed this value, the program will most likely crash.
If you attatch the file name to your Directory List Selection, ie put the
path and filename under "Macro File," the name will be transferred to the
terminal program. At the point where you want to send it through, all that
is needed is: F7 + Enter. 1$COMM opens the file, adds a carriage return and
linefeed to each line, adds all the lines together, and sends it through the
modem as a string.
[X] Auto If checked, as you select up and down in the Directory box
any macro or attatched files will automatically be loaded
into the Text box.
Also, if you save the contents of the Text box, the file
name in which it was saved as, will automatically become
the Macro File of the current selected item in the Direct-
ory List box.
If un-checked these things will not happen.
If your using the Text box, and creating new work, make
sure the Auto switch is off, incase by accident you happen
to re-fill the Text box with another file, dumping your
unsaved work!
The Macro/File/Text Editor can be used to create and modify files.
An example of one of the messages displayed in the
Hyper-Help message line. Upon FOCUS, each object
respectively has something to say.

Dial Switches to the Terminal program: 1$COMM.EXE and calls out, based
on the information of the current selection in the Directory List
box.
Setup Uses a set of input boxes to set up Defaults for the Terminal program.
If you are unsure of what to select, use the Default that you are
prompted with, ie just press Enter.
Although 1$COMM tries its best to configure your terminal parameters,
the one thing that you WILL need to know, is what PORT your modem is
connected to.
Setup generates the following file: 1$COMM.DAT
Your Name Goes Here! As a requirement of registration 1$COMM
(Area Code) Exchange-Suffix needs your full name and telephone #.
l A serial code based on terminal params.
E:\FMN\ Your program path.
AFTER LIFE Name of current selected BBS.
*7013018900686 BBS telephone number.
19200 Selected baud rate.
2 Com Port #.
0 Parity.
8 Data Bits.
1 Stop Bits.
NULL Macro filename, NULL if none.
XMODEM/CRC Current protocal. "XMODEM/CRC default"
T T is for Touch tone, P is for Pulse.
60 # of seconds to wait for a connection.
1 # of seconds to wait between re-dials.
10 # of times to re-dial a number.
A A is for ANSI, T is for TEXT.
NOTE: Although you may use 1$COMM.EXE without first going to the form, 1$FORM,
if the 1$COMM.DAT file does not exist, the program will automatically
start you at the form first, so that with setup it may be created.
If you plan to use 1$COMM without the aid of the form, you may pass a
new telephone number to the program from the command line. Example:
C:\FMN> 1$COMM *70 625-4475
If 1$COMM.EXE is started with the wrong parameters, "wrong port," "wrong
parity," ect. the program will most likely hang in the Intializing
state, or crash. Sorry, perhaps in future versions we'll add more code
for error recovery.
Shell Shells out to DOS, unless it can not locate a copy of your
Command.com file. The C:\ as well as the current drive:\FMN
directory are polled for this file.
Quit Terminates the program, returns to DOS.
If the Macro Text box contains, something other than the
HELP file, 1$COMM will prompt you to save it before quiting,
even if it's already saved. Consequently, if you modify the
HELP file make sure you do re-save it before Quiting.
The HELP file name is: "1.HLP"
Add/Edit Directory List box items, you will be prompted
with input boxes.
Remove Simply deletes the current selected item, in the Directory.

Print Prints the contents of the Text box to the first ready
printer port found.
If you selected specific text, by either highlighting
the text with the SHIFT + ARROW keys, or by using the
MOUSE "left down + drag" then only the selected text
is printed.
Copy Coppies selected text to the internal clip board.
Paste Pastes coppied text at the current cursor location in the
Text box.
Clear Clears the contents of the Text box.
If you selected specific text, by either highlighting
the text with the SHIFT + ARROW keys, or by using the
MOUSE "left down + drag" then only the selected text
is deleted.
End of Object Help.
Directory Log:
When you quit 1$FORM.EXE, or select the Dial command, whatever is in the
Directory List box, is saved to a file called 1$COMM.LOG.
If you have multiple "BBS's" or carriers to add, it's easier to add them
in a text editor, rather than going through mindless input boxes. The
following describes 1$COMM's format.
FULL MOTION NET 1 (609) 625-4475 19200 8 1 0 A my.txt
Micro Help *7014045161497 19200 8 1 0 A NULL
^
Carrier name starts on column 1 ends on column 20
^
Phone # starts on column 21 ends on column 40
^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
Baud starts on column 41
You get the idea.....just copy the original log
to an editor and match the columns with your new
data.
Note: if you delete FULL MOTION NET, 1$FORM automatically
re-inserts it each session....we wouldn't want you to
forget who we were!
Also there's no need to worry about sorting or order.
1$FORM.EXE naturally sorts the list alphabetically,
by carrier name and saves this order to file upon
termination or dial.
End of 1$FORM Help
1$COMM Help in brief
We could spend hours describing how a terminal program works and what all
the parameters mean, but we won't. Briefly just what you need to know to
make 1$COMM work.
1$COMM uses the current information stored in its DAT file, therfore if
you subsequently call the same carrier over and over, theres really no
need to go to the form in order to re-select the same item. Just type
1$COMM and Enter at the DOS command line.
If you never get out of Intializing...more than "a minute" then something
went wrong and you might as well reboot. Check the parameters in the DAT
file, correct and restart.
Once you are connected, these are the possible things you can do:
F1 Displays Help Displays these commands
F2 Toggles Capture Turns ON/OFF file capture
F3 Toggles CTS Clear to Send
F4 Clears the Terminal Window In case your Boss walks in
F5 Toggles Echo Hides local
F6 Prompt to Enter AT Modem Command
F7 Sends Macro File to Modem
F8 Time/Date Stamp Sends the system time & date
F9 Com. Stats. Misc. One important stat. is the
Buffer Overwrites. If this
number is greater than zero,
then you are probably missing
data in your capture file.
It's helpful to check this
from time to time especially
if you get garbage characters
on the screen.
F10 Undo Clear Screen When your Boss leaves
F11 Suspend and Shell to DOS Shells out while online
ALT + Q Prompt to Quit or Redial Hangs up, prompts will follow
Page Up Upload File You may rechoose your protocal
Page Down Download File A unique file name is pre-
selected for you incase you've
forgotten the actual filename.
All of the display functions will save the current screen
suspend the com port, and then restore it when complete.
Most of the time things go fine, but sometimes carrier will
be dropped. Sorry,.... we havn't fixed all the conflicts in
this version yet.
When something does go wrong use the "1$USE.LOG" file to locate
where the problem occurred.
Please note that this program is not multi-task aware and it
will probably not run in Windows.
About the protocols:
We only included a basic set, because we had no intention of
trying to make the do-it-all terminal program. We do not expect
you to throw away your favorite Terminal program and use 1$COMM
instead. 1$COMM was written for the sole purpose of capturing
in full ANSI color, everything that comes to you without any
emulation cheating you out of actual code.
Please note that although you can Download a file using YMODEM,
YMODEM-G, you may not Upload with this Protocol. Reason? We had
numerous problems with the YMODEM send sub routine, so we deleted
it. Also ZMODEM will allow you to Download or Upload a Batch, "a
series of files." In order to use the Upload Batch: Read
"JOEMODEM.TXT."
For implementation of external protocols, read "EXTERN.TXT"
We have added, some other cool features, to simply aid you in
your quests.
...and finally; the spinning colored cursors on 1$COMM's dial
screen, serve no purpose other than to amuse Bob!
If you're like Bob and insist on turning off your modem speaker,
then the spinning cursors will let you know that your machine is
not locked up.
