additions to GolfLog. Valuable information that is not yet in the
Instruction manual (GOLFLOG.DOC) will be in one of these screens.
It will always show the latest changes and additions to GolfLog and
give information on how to best use GolfLog.
Each time there is a new release of GolfLog, the user should
always read this file first. It's easy to do now, as the reader is
built right in and all the user need do is select "Changes" in the
"PullDown Box" under the "File" option on the TopMenu Bar. For
this reason, the file GOLFLOG.HEP must ALWAYS be placed in the same
directory as GOLFLOG.COM

(ADD GAME RECORD)
The shareware version allows a maximum of five (5) Game Records.
When registered, GolfLog will allow 2,000 Game Records to be entered
into the database.
Select this option when you wish to add a new Game Record to the
database. If you have more than one Player in the database you will
first be required to select the Player from a "PickList" by moving the
Arrow Keys (UpArrow and DownArrow) causing the bar to HiLight the
correct Player, then you press <Enter> to select that Player. Next,
if you have more than one Course Record in the database, you will be
asked to select a Course from the "PickList" using the same method
that you used when selecting the Player. If you only have one Player
and Course in the database, you will go directly to the screen where
all the information needed by GolfLog will be entered. You really
should bring your score card home with you to be assured of entering
the requested information correctly.
(DATE)
The 1st prompt will ask you for the date the game was played. If
you are entering the information on the same day that the game was
played, just press <Enter> and the current date will be entered for you.
If you need to enter a different date, you must enter the date using
the date format you selected when setting up GolfLog for the 1st time.
The two formats are "MM-DD-YYYY" or "DD-MM-YYYY" with "MM" being the
month, "DD" being the day and "YYYY" being the year. If the month is
from Jan. - Sep (01 - 09) then you must enter a zero "0" as the first
digit. If the day is from the 1st - 9th (01 - 09) then you must also
enter a zero "0" as the first digit here also. Entering a Month larger
than 12 or a Day larger than 31 will not be accepted. If you attempt
to enter a Month or Day smaller than 10 in the first space, it will
automatically place a zero "0" there and jump to the second space. The
Year must be entered using all four digits as in 1994.
(PARTNERS)
The next prompt will ask you for the name(s) of your playing
partners for the game being entered. If you played alone, press
<Enter> without typing anything here and this prompt will be skipped.
When entering the names here, remember that this field is limited to
30 spaces so it might be best if you only enter the first names when
entering more than 2 or 3 playing partners.
(GREEN FEE - CART FEE)
If you paid a Green fee and/or rented a cart enter the amount
paid for the Green fee first (press <Enter> without typing anything
here to skip this prompt) then, after entering the Green Fee amount
you will be prompted for the amount you paid for cart rental. Skipping
this prompt can be accomplished by the same method just mentioned for
Green fee.
(HOLES PLAYED)
Here you enter the number of holes you played for this game. Only 2
figures will be accepted here; either 9 or 18. If you enter 9 then you
will be asked if you played the front side (Holes 1-9) or the back side
(holes 10-18). If the game is a 9 hole game, GolfLog will automatically
select the score box for the front 9 or the back 9 depending on the side
you indicated. If you entered 18, then GolfLog will display the score
box for the entire 18 holes of the Course selected earlier.
(SCORES)
Note that for Players with an established Handicap Index, GolfLog
will display their Handicap Index and the Course Handicap just to the
upper right of the score box.
The score box will show the Hole # and the Par for each hole on the
course. When entering scores here, you MUST NOT use the Arrow Keys
(LeftArrow & RightArrow) to skip from box to box. Simply enter the score
for the hole then press the <Enter> Key to go to the next hole. If you
are a registered user of GolfLog AND you have an established Handicap
Index AND you have indicated that you want to use the "Equitable Stroke
Control" rule (ESC), GolfLog will check each score as you enter it to see
that it fits within the range of the ESC rule. If it's greater than the
limit allowed, GolfLog will advise you and adjust the score accordingly.
The maximum score for any hole is 25. The minimum score for any hole
is 1. If you wish to stop before completing the Game Record, you may
press the <F10> Key then press the <Enter> Key and you will be returned
to the Main Menu. The record will not be saved if you use this means to
exit early.
After entering the scores for the first 9 holes, the 9 hole total
score will be posted. If it's under the minimum score allowed by the
U.S.G.A. or over the maximum score allowed by the U.S.G.A. GolfLog will
advise you and adjust the score accordingly. The minimum score allowed
for handicapping purposes is 29. The maximum score allowed depends on
the Player's age and sex. GolfLog knows the age and sex of each Player
along with the U.S.G.A. limits and will make all the necessary adjust-
ments as needed.
(GREENS)
Greens hit in regulation are based on each hole as follows:
Hole Par Strokes to reach Green
-------- ----------------------
Par 3 ........... 1 (Hit from Tee Box)
Par 4 ........... 2 (Hit on 2rd shot)
Par 5 ........... 3 (Hit on 3rd shot)
TIP - When entering the score for each hole during the game, if you hit
the green in regulation or less, put a "G" in the score box on the score
card while playing. If you did not hit that green in regulation, put a
"GX" in the box.
NOTE - Hitting greens on Par 4 holes on the first shot and Par 5 holes on
the second shot are still considered hitting the green in regulation.
(TOTAL PUTTS)
Enter the total number of Putts required to complete the game. This
figure will be used when computing a Player's Putting average.
TIP - When entering the score while playing, enter the number of putts
for each hole by placing "P1", "P2", etc. in the box for each score.
(FAIRWAYS HIT)
Hitting a fairway in regulation means that your ball lands IN the
Fairway on the FIRST shot off the Tee. Par 3 holes are NOT included in
Fairways hit. If you miss the Green on a par 3 hole and your ball lands
in the Fairway, it's considered a Green missed and NOT a Fairway hit.
Looking at the percent of Fairways hit at the Summary Screen will
give a good indication of how accurate a Player is with the Driver.
TIP - When entering the score for each hole while still on the Course,
place an "F" in the score box when you hit a Fairway and "FX" in the box
when a Fairway is missed.
(SAND SAVES)
Sand Saves Attempted means the number of times you were in a green
side sand trap. Sand traps alongside Fairways (also called "Fairway
bunkers") are NOT to be used when entering the number of sand saves
attempted. If you attempted no sand saves, press <Enter> here without
typing a number and you will be moved to the next prompt.
Sand Saves Made are the number of times you save Par after being in
a green side sand trap. If you do not make Par on the hole where you
were in a green side sand trap, then do not enter anything. You may
skip this prompt by pressing <Enter> without entering a number.
TIP - While on the Course, if you make a valid sand save, place "S" in
the score box for that hole. If you fail to save Par from a green side
sand trap, place "SX" in the score box.
Looking at the percent of Sand Saves attempted/made at the Summary
Screen will give a Player an indication of how well he/she uses sand
wedges and whether or not this would be a part of his/her game the Player
needs to work on.
(WAGERS)
If you make wagers with your playing partners while playing, enter
the amount of money won here. In the event you have wagers with more
than 1 person, if you won money from one and lost from another, enter
amounts won from winning wagers then enter the amounts lost from losing
wagers. GolfLog will automatically make the necessary calculations for
you. Skip either/both these prompts, by pressing <Enter> without
entering anything.
(RATE CLUB/COURSE)
If you wish to evaluate the Club and Course using a scale of 1-10,
press "Y" at this prompt and you will then enter a number from 1-10 for
the following 5 categories:
Greens ... Condition, quality, etc.
Fairways ... Condition, quality, etc.
Course Layout ... Overall layout (easy, hard, etc)
Facilities ... General condition, etc.
Personnel ... Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable
After entering a value for the 5 items above GolfLog will compute an
"Overall Average". This can be useful when selecting a Course to play
your next game on.
(SAVE - STARTOVER - QUIT)
After completing all the above information, you will be asked to
<S>ave the record, Start<O>ver or <Q>uit without saving. Select one
of these options and press the appropriate letter on your keyboard.
Pressing "S" here will cause the record to be saved in the database
and will allow it to be called up for review at any time along with all
information recorded being included in the Summary for the Player.
~~~
[2/3]
(ADD PLAYER RECORD)
The shareware version allows only one (1) Player Record. When
registered, GolfLog will allow up to eight (8) different Players to
be added to the database.
Information entered here is used by GolfLog when doing Handicaps,
minimum and maximum scores, etc. It can be used also for keeping up
with a player's age, address, phone number, etc. At least one (1)
Player Record must be saved in the database before a Game Record can
be added.
(FIRST and LAST NAME)
Enter the FIRST name of the Player and press <Enter> to move to
the prompt for the LAST name. DO NOT enter BOTH the first and last
name at either of these prompts as GolfLog does some sorting based on
the last name and it needs to know how to recognize it as being a
legitimate last name or first name.
(SEX)
GolfLog needs to know the sex of each Player so proper handicap
figures can be established. Also, the U.S.G.A. has established minimum
and maximum allowable scores based on both sex and age. You will be re-
quired to enter either "M" or "F" at this prompt. It doesn't matter if
you type it lower case or upper case ("m" or "F"), GolfLog will know the
difference and adjust accordingly.
(AGE)
GolfLog needs to know the age of each Player so proper handicap
figures can be established. Also, the U.S.G.A. has established minimum
and maximum allowable scores based on both sex and age. You will be re-
quired to enter an age here that is over 4 and under 100.
(ADDRESS)
Enter here the address (street or P.O. box) of the Player. Do not
exceed the field length indicated by the dark spaces or you will be re-
quired to complete the prompt again.
(CITY) (STATE) (ZIP CODE)
Enter here the city where the Player resides, the two letter postal
code for the state and the ZIP code.
(HOME PHONE and WORK PHONE)
Enter at these two prompts first the home telephone of the Player
then the work or office phone. Either of these numbers could also be a
car phone if desired.
(USGA INDEX)
If the Player already has an established Handicap Index it should
be entered at this prompt. If the Player does not have an established
Handicap Index or it is not known, enter a zero "0" and press <Enter>
(DIFFERENTIAL)
If the Player has an established Handicap Index he/she will also
have a Differential. If it is known, enter it here at this prompt.
(SAVE - STARTOVER - QUIT)
After completing all the above information, you will be asked if
you want to <S>ave the record, Start<O>ver or <Q>uit without saving.
Select one of these options and press the appropriate letter on your
keyboard. Pressing "S" here will cause the record to be saved in the
database and will allow it to be called up when adding a new Game Record.
Mouse users may place the Mouse pointer directly on the letter inside
the "< >" and tap the LEFT Mouse button.
~~~
[2/4]
(ADD COURSE RECORD)
The shareware version allows only one (1) Course Record. When
GolfLog is registered, as many as fifty (50) Course Records can be
entered into the database.
After completing this requirement for a Course, you will not be
required to enter it again. A Course Record is saved in the database
and is available each time a new Game Record is entered or the Course
Record is selected for editing or display. You MUST have at lease one
Course Record saved in the database before a Game Record can be entered.
(COURSE NAME)
Enter here the name of the Course or Club. This field is limited
to 20 characters so abbreviations may be necessary such as "Riverlawn
CC" rather than "Riverlawn Country Club."
(CITY and STATE)
Enter here the name of the city/town where the course is located.
Press <Enter> after entering the city and type the standard 2 letter
Postal abbreviation for the state.
(COURSE TYPE)
If your course is one where you have only 9 holes and DO NOT have
provisions for playing it as an 18 hole course (such as 2 Tee boxes for
each hole) then press "Y" here. If your course is an 18 hole course (or
a 9 hole course with 2 Tee boxes for each hole) press "N" here.
(COURSE PAR)
You will next be asked to enter the Par for the front 9 (1-9)
then the Par for the back 9 (10-18). After doing this GolfLog will
display the Course Par. If your course is a true 9 hole course, you
must enter the Par figure at the required prompt.
(HOLE PARS)
Next you will be required to enter the Par value for each hole on
the course. After completing this requirement, GolfLog will check to
be sure the front side Par value and the back side Par value matches
the total of the individual holes just entered. If the figures do not
match, GolfLog will display a message box advising you which of the
sides do not match the Par value indicated at the top of the screen.
NOTE - GolfLog does not accept Hole Par values of less than 3 or more
than 5. Acceptable Par values are 3, 4, and 5.
(SLOPE and RATING)
If your course is an approved U.S.G.A. course, it will have both a
"Slope" and "Rating" assigned to it. The Course Pro/Manager should be
able to make both of these figures available to you. Many courses have
this information printed on the scorecard. If you have these figures
then enter them at the next 2 prompts. The Slope is entered first.
Pressing <Enter> here without typing a number will cause GolfLog to
assign a default value of 135 as the Slope for the course. The next
prompt will ask for the Rating of the course. Either enter the known
rating of the Course or press <Enter> for the default value of 70.5
(CLUB PRO and TELEPHONE)
The last 2 prompts ask you for the name of the club Pro/Manager and
the telephone number. If this information is not known, press <Enter>
to skip either or both of these prompts.
TIP - Having the telephone number entered here will be handy in case
you forget it and need to call for an advance "Tee time."
(SAVE - STARTOVER - QUIT)
After completing all the above information, you will be asked if
you want to <S>ave the record, Start<O>ver or <Q>uit without saving.
Select one of these options and press the appropriate letter on your
keyboard. Pressing "S" here will cause the record to be saved in the
database and allow it to be called up when adding a new Game Record.
The Mouse user can place the Mouse pointer directly on the letter
inside the "< >" and tap the LEFT Mouse button.
~~~
[3/1]
You first select a Player from the "PickList" presented then,
from a second "PickList", select the record of choice and either tap
the LEFT Mouse button or press <Enter>. GolfLog will display the
selected Game Record in two (2) screens. The first screen will show
a breakdown of all the stats for that particular game. After viewing
this screen, press any key to move on to the next screen. The second
screen will show the Player's score card for the selected game.
At the bottom of this screen you will be offered the opportunity
to print both the Game Record and the score card. Select <Y> to print
or <N> to quit back to the Menu. The Mouse user can place the Mouse
pointer directly on the letter inside the "< >" and tap the LEFT
Mouse button.
~~~
[3/2]
After selecting the Player whose Summary you wish to review from
the "PickList", you will be shown a screen listing 41 different items
about ALL the games this Player has recorded in the database. You may
find this screen the most interesting of all as it tells you about the
selected Player's history of all games recorded. It does not however,
tell you how to improve the Player's golf game.
At the bottom of this screen, you will be offered the opportunity
to print the Summary. Select <Y> to print or <N> to quit back to the
Menu. The Mouse user can place the Mouse pointer directly on the
letter inside the "< >" and tap the LEFT Mouse button.
~~~
[3/4]
Selecting this option will display a screen with all Players
in the database ranked according to their current Handicap Index.
A zero (0) is the best Handicap Index. Any Players having a "0"
Handicap Index will be ranked first. In the event 2 or more Players
have identical Handicap Index values, they will be shown as "tied"
with the same rank number. The Player ranked at the top of a tie
indicates the Player was entered into the database before the other
Player(s) with the same rank.
This requires at least two (2) Player Records to be in the
database before any "ranking" can be done and therefore will not
work in the shareware version where only 1 Player Record is allowed.
~~~
[3/6]
This option will ask you to select the Player from a "PickList"
then display general information found in the Player's record. Here's
where you can find the Player's phone number, age, sex, number of games
played, Handicap Index, etc.
TIP - Having this information available can make it easy to get phone
numbers when calling friends to get up a game on short notice.
~~~
[3/7]
You will be presented a "PickList" if more than one Course Record
is in the database. Select the course of choice and you will be shown
everything you entered when you first placed the Course record in the
database. The record will reflect any changes you may have made if
the Course Record has been edited.
~~~
[4/1]
EDIT GAME RECORD
*><* This is a "registered only" option.
This option is not available in this release of GolfLog. It
will be available for the next version but only to registered users
of GolfLog.
When operational, you will be able to edit everything in the
selected record with the exception of the Player's name.
~~~
[4/3]
Select the Player from the "PickList" presented and you will
be able to change anything in the Player's record except the name
of the Player.
If you need to change the name of a Player, you must delete the
Player then create a new one using the "Add Player" option.
TIP - Use this to change the age of a Player, his/her address, phone
numbers, etc.
~~~
[4/4]

[5/5]
(MM-DD-YYYY)
Select this option if you wish to use the standard MM-DD-YYYY
date format. This is the default format used when GolfLog is started
for the first time.
NOTE - GolfLog does some sorting based on the Month (MM) and Day (DD)
so once a default date format is selected, it shouldn't be changed.
~~~
[5/6]
(DD-MM-YYYY)
Select this option if you wish to use the military or European
style DD-MM-YYYY format.
NOTE - GolfLog does some sorting based on the Day (DD) and Month (MM)
so once a default date format is selected, it shouldn't be changed.
~~~
[5/8]
Use this option to delete a Player Record from the database. Keep
in mind that when you delete a Player Record that GolfLog will also
remove ALL his/her Game Records from the database and they will not be
recoverable!
You will be presented a "PickList" showing all the Players in the
database. Move the bar down/up the list until the correct Player's
name is HiLighted and press <Enter>. If you wish to cancel the
"delete" operation, you can press <Escape> while at the "PickList"
and be returned to the Main Menu. Mouse users can place the Mouse
pointer on the desired line and tap the LEFT Mouse button to make the
deletion.
~~~
[5/9]
NOTE - If you wish to exit a "PickList" without making a selection
press <Escape> or place Mouse pointer on rectangular dot in the
upper left corner of the "PickList" display.
NOTE - Mouse users can select the Player and Record from the "Pick-
List" by placing the Mouse pointer on the desired item and
tapping the LEFT Mouse button.
NOTE - Once a Game Record is deleted, it will be lost forever! All
deletions are permanent and the record will not be recoverable!
the Mouse pointer on the rectangular dot in the upper left corner and tap
the LEFT Mouse Button.
The color change is done "on the fly" and the user can see the results
after leaving the "PickList." The color change will remain as the
default until changed by the user.
~~~
[5/13]
The user can fill out the form needed to register GolfLog and
have the form printed after it's completed.
If you're going to register GolfLog, this is the easiest way
to do it. All necessary information is gathered by GolfLog and the
calculations are made "on the fly."
Users can always call RiverBend SoftWare direct and, using a
MasterCard or Visa, register over the telephone.
~~~
[6/1]
*><* This is a "registered only" option.
A formula like that used by the U.S.G.A. is used for the computations
and provides similar results. A Player must have a minimum of ten (10)
Game Records of 18 hole games in the database before a Handicap Index can
be determined. GolfLog checks the individual Player's Game Records and if
he/she does have at least 10 Game Records of valid 18 hole games then
the Index is determined. If a Player has 20 or more 18 hole Game Records
in the database then GolfLog will use the last 20 Records when determining
the Index.
The user will first be asked to select a Player Record from the
"PickList" and then select a Course from a second "PickList." After these
selections are made, all the computations are made and the screen will
display various items showing the Player, Course, Course Rating and Slope,
a list of the last 10 or 20 Game scores sorted in lowest to highest order,
and the Player's new Handicap Index.
NOTE - The Handicap Index determined by GolfLog is not to be used as a
Player's "official" Handicap Index when entering Tournaments where play-
ers are flighted based on their Handicap. An "official" Handicap Index
can only be obtained from the U.S.G.A. (through your local P.G.A. Pro-
fessional). Handicap Index's coming from the U.S.G.A. (local State
affiliate) may take weeks or even months to reach you. With GolfLog,
your Handicap Index can be seen after each Game Record is entered.
This allows each Player to know what his/her current Handicap Index is
at any time.
~~~
[6/3]
*><* This is a "registered only" option.
A Player's Course Handicap is commonly referred to as his/her
"handicap." It's determined using the Player's current Handicap Index
and the Slope and Rating of the Course being played. The course Pro
or manager should be able to explain the method used to determine a
Course Handicap using these three items when you're playing a course
that you've never played before and don't have the course recorded in
the GolfLog database.
NOTE - It's not unusual to see a Player with a Handicap Index or 12.6
and have a Course Handicap for a certain course as low as 10 or as high
as 15. It depends on the Slope and Rating values of the course being
played.
NOTE - A Player's Course Handicap will be expressed as a whole number
like 4, 9, 12, 16, etc. where their Handicap Index is most often (but
not always) shown with a decimal as in 4.6 or 9.3 or 11.2, etc.

**> Changes incorporated into v9.3 - v9.3g <**
1.. The GolfLog archive or diskette will no longer contain both
GOLFLOG.COM and GOLF_386.COM Improvements in the internal
code make it no longer necessary to compile the GOLF_386.COM
version of GolfLog. The GOLFLOG.COM version will now run as
fast or faster on any machine its being used on than the older
copies of GOLF_386.COM. If you have been using GOLF_386.COM
on your 386/486/+ machine you should remove it and replace it
with the new GOLFLOG.COM file.
If you use a Menu or Windows to call GolfLog, be sure to check
and make sure you have the proper filename for the Menu to call.
2.. Found and fixed a bug in the printer routines. GolfLog should
now print on most any printer without any problems.
3.. Found and fixed a problem with some 9 hole scores not getting
recorded properly in the database. Sometimes this caused some
weird numbers to be posted to the Game Record.
4.. Recoded entire Menu routines incorporating full Mouse support.
5.. Added built-in OnLine Help. Pressing the <F1> Key when any
"PullDown Box" is displayed, the user can get some basic
information about the HiLighted procedure. For example, if
the HiLight bar is at the "Game Record" line in the "Pull
Down Box" under the TopMenu option "Add", the user can get
immediate help with adding a new Game Record to the database.
6.. Added several new Menu options. They are as follows:
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────
{* Added the ability for the user to view this text file from
the Menu rather than having to use a separate program. To
do this select (C)hanges with either the Mouse pointer or
the ArrowKeys in the "PullDown Box" under the top Menu
bar option "File."
{* Added the ability to change the color scheme at the Main
Menu screen "on the fly." This option is found in the
"PullDown Box" under the TopMenu option "Utils". Seven
different color schemes are available:
{* Added the ability for the user to select a new date format
just by clicking on the format desired. The user without a
Mouse can move the HiLight bar to the format desired and
press <Enter>. The changes will be made "on the fly" and
will be in effect immediately. This also is available in
the "PullDown Box" under the "Utils" option on the Top
Menu" bar.
The date format is used by GolfLog when the user adds a new
Game Record to the database. Once a date format is selected
it shouldn't be changed as GolfLog does some sorting based on
the month (MM) and the day (DD).
The date format options are:
MM-DD-YYYY - Standard format
DD-MM-YYYY - Military or European format
{* Added the ability for the user to select/change the Parallel
port to be used when GolfLog performs a printing operation.
The Mouse user can click on the port number desired (1,2,3)
and the change goes into effect immediately. The user with-
out a Mouse can move the HiLight bar to the port number de-
sired and press <Enter>. The changes will be made "on the
fly" and will be in effect immediately. This option is
available in the "PullDown Box" under the "Utils" option
on the TopMenu bar. The port number selected will remain
as the default until changed again by the user. Once the
user selects a port (most computers use port "1") they
probably won't ever have the need to change it again.
{* Added a new option in the "PullDown Box" under the "Edit"
option on the TopMenu Bar. The new option is "Game Record"
and when operational, will allow the user to pull up any
Game Record in the database and edit any portion of it with
the exception of the name of the Player who played the game.
This selection is not operational at this time but is shown
for information purposes. NOTE that this will be available
to REGISTERED USERS ONLY. It will not work in the shareware
version of GolfLog.
7.. When adding the OnLine Help to GolfLog it became necessary
to insist that the file GOLFLOG.HEP be in the same directory
where the other GolfLog files are located. Each time GolfLog
is started, it searches for this file in the directory from
where it's started. If it doesn't find it, GolfLog will
still be operational but without OnLine Help available to
the user. This file MUST NOT BE ALTERED in any way!
8.. GolfLog now maintains a log file of general activity. The
log file name is GOLFLOG.LOG and is created and maintained
by GolfLog. Use any text file viewer to read this file. If
it gets rather larger over time, delete it and GolfLog will
create a new one and start from there again.
9.. Added color to many of the dialog boxes that appear at various
times when using the different GolfLog functions.
10.. Mouse routines have been streamlined and versions from v9.3c
forward should see an improvement in overall speed along with
the removal of "mouse droppings" from all screens.
11.. Where possible the Mouse pointer now appears a couple of lines
under the "< OK >" box. At other times, when the Mouse is
active and available, the Mouse pointer is placed in the
upper left corner (Row 1, Column 1) of the screen.
12.. Tweaked the internal code to improve memory handling and overall
speed.
NOTE This version (v9.3g) is a working "rough draft" of the next
major release of GolfLog. It was decided to release this version in
its present state so prospective users can catch a glimpse of the
future of GolfLog, "Golf's premier database and handicapping system."
The next major change will be the ability to edit Game Records. Look
for this to be available by mid April, 1995.

Key files are obtained when you register GolfLog. Once you pay the
registration fee and receive your Key file, you will never have to pay
for any upgrades. You Key file will work for ALL future versions of
GolfLog. Your Key file MUST BE IN THE SAME DIRECTORY AS GOLFLOG.COM and
GOLFLOG.HEP or registered options will not be available.
Your Key file is registered to you and no one else. It is illegal to
give a copy of it to anyone else. You should NEVER alter or delete the
Key file (without it GolfLog will revert back to the shareware version
with limited capabilities and capacities)!
There is a $15.00 charge for replacing lost Key files so be sure you
make a backup copy when you receive yours.
Registration entitles the user to the following additional options
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
1.. Calculate a Handicap Index for each Player in the database
using a formula like the U.S.G.A. uses to figure a Players
Handicap Index.
2.. Calculate a Course Handicap for each Player in the database
using a formula like the U.S.G.A. uses to figure a Course
Handicap.
3.. Enter up to 2,000 Game Records in the database.
4.. Enter up to 8 Player Records in the database.
5.. Enter up to 50 different Course Records in the database.
6.. Edit Game Records. NOTE - This option is still being
developed/tested and is not operational at this time.
This should be ready by April, 1995

Miscellaneous Tips
1.. Using the Mouse: Using the Mouse is easy when in GolfLog. Most
all standard Mouse procedures apply. To select an option at any
of the TopMenu Bar selections just move the Mouse pointer to the
selection desired and tap the LEFT Mouse button. This will cause
a "PullDown Box" to appear. To select an option from one of the
"PullDown Boxes", move the pointer to the desired option and tap
the LEFT Mouse button. The Mouse pointer will appear as a small
vertical rectangle "█". At times you must actually move the
Mouse slightly to see where the Mouse pointer is located as it
may be hidden or unseen in the display screen.
2.. Users without a Mouse: Users without a Mouse should find using
GolfLog as easy as always. Use the Arrow Keys to move about the
Menu selections and when you get the <OK> or <CANCEL> display in
an on-screen box, use the <Tab> Key to jump from one to the other.
When at the desired option, press <Enter> and to activate the Top
Menu bar, press the <Alt> Key and use the LeftArrow/RightArrow
Keys to move along the bar. When the desired option is HiLighted
the "PullDown Box" will appear.
3.. Deleting Records: When deleting Game Records, if there's 2 or more
players in the database, the user must first select the Player
whose Game Record is to be deleted. After selecting the Player
from the "PickList" (HiLight the name and press <Enter>), the
user will be shown another "PickList" with all of the selected
Player's games. Move the HiLight bar to the game to be deleted
and press <Enter> to remove the Game Record from the database.
When deleting Player and Course Records, the user will only need
to select the Player or Course and press <Enter>. See Tip #4
4.. PickList selections: A "PickList" is a box in the upper left
corner of the screen showing a list of Player, Game, or Course
Records currently in the database. To select an item in a "Pick-
List", use either the Mouse pointer or Arrow Keys to HiLight
the record of choice. Users without a Mouse must press <Enter>
after moving the HiLight bar; Mouse users only need to move
the pointer to the selected record and tap the LEFT Mouse button.
To leave a "PickList" without making a selection, hit <Escape> or
move the Mouse pointer to the small rectangular dot in the upper left
corner of the "PickList" box and tap the LEFT Mouse button.
A typical "PickList" display box:
┌──────────────────── Place Mouse pointer here and tap LEFT
Mouse button to escape a "PickList"
╓─┤■├───────────────╖
║ Choice One ║ Other available keys are PageUp, PageDown,
║ Choice Two ║ Home, End, DownArrow () and UpArrow ().
║ Choice Three ║
║ Choice Four ║ Non-Mouse users can use the ArrowKeys ()
║ Choice Five ║ to move the HiLight bar to the desired
║ etc... ║ choice and hit <Enter> to select.
║ etc... ║
╙─────────────────╜
└──────────── Place Mouse pointer here and tap LEFT
Mouse button to scroll the listing.
5.. When selecting an item in a "PickList" using a Mouse, be sure the
Mouse pointer is directly on the line listing the item of choice
then tap the LEFT Mouse button.
6.. If you've selected one of the OnLine Help screens and wish to exit
using your Mouse, just tap the RIGHT Mouse button and you'll be
returned to the Menu. It doesn't matter where the Mouse pointer is
located when tapping the RIGHT Mouse button. You may also place
the Mouse pointer directly on the small rectangular dot in the upper
left corner of the display screen.
A typical OnLine Help screen:
┌────────────────────────── Place Mouse pointer here and tap the
│ LEFT Mouse button to exit.
┌─┤■├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ │
│ Help text shown here...................................... │
│ ............................................................ │
│ ............................................................ │
\ /
│ ............................................................ │
│ ............................................................ │
│ │
├─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
7.. To exit any OnLine Help screen without using a Mouse is easy too.
Press <F1> or <Escape> and you'll be returned to the Menu.
Mouse users can also place the Mouse pointer directly on the
small rectangular dot in the upper left corner and tap the LEFT
Mouse button to exit the help screen.
8.. When at a screen where the user is offered choices such as <S>ave,
<P>rint, Start<O>ver, etc, the Mouse user can place the pointer on
the letter between the "< >" and tap the LEFT Mouse button to make
that selection. The non-Mouse user must press the letter Key that
corresponds to the option of choice.
Example: <S>ave <P>rint Start<O>ver <Q>uit
└─────── Place Mouse pointer here and tap the LEFT
Mouse button to make the "Save" selection.
9.. Using the menu: The GolfLog menu is made up of two different types.
The first is the bar across the top of the screen and is commonly
referred to as the "TopMenu Bar." The second is a "PullDown Box"
and only appears when one of the items in the TopMenu bar has been
selected. To exit a "PullDown Box", press <Escape>. To exit
the TopMenu bar, select the "Quit" option at the far right side of
the TopMenu bar. When the "PullDown Box" appears, select "Yes."
The "Quit" option is also offered in the "PullDown Box" under
the "File" option on the TopMenu bar. The non-Mouse user can press
the <Alt> Key to cause the "PullDown Boxes" to appear. Mouse users
can place the Mouse pointer on the desired option and tap the LEFT
Mouse button.
