Infosec Glossary Install instructions
-------------------------------------
The Infosec setup will install a minimal set of files to your harddrive.
The remainder of the program must be run from the CD-ROM. The installation
should not take more than 11 MB harddrive space.
Install Options
Unified INFOSEC Glossary Install Instructions
---------------------------------------------
The Unified INFOSEC Glossary (Glossary) must be installed to a hard drive.
The setup application will perform this function.
INSTALLING TO A HARD DRIVE
When installing to a hard drive, you must have a minimum of 8.5 megabytes
available for the installation. The Glossary will be copied to your hard drive.
None of the public documents in PDF format, the DACUM reports, and
PowerPoint(TM) presentations will be installed on the hard drive. To access
these public documents you must have the CD-ROM available. See CD-ROM
access note under the section Running from CD-ROM above.
NOTE: If you are running Windows 3.1x, the line: "share.exe /l:500" must
be added to your autoexec.bat file. Windows(R) 95 and Windows NT do not
need this addition.
If you are running Windows 3.1x, you must have a minimum of 550KB before
running Windows. If not, the Unified INFOSEC Glossary will be unable to
correctly shell the Adobe(TM) Acrobat reader to view the public documents.
Adobe Install Instructions
--------------------------
WINDOWS
Adobe Acrobat Reader must be installed to a harddrive.
Acrobat program files will be installed to your harddrive. A harddrive
installation will use approximately 2.5MB of harddrive space. Once
this operation is complete, the CD-ROM must still be available to
locate the Glossary data files. Acrobat data files are files with
the .pdf extension and are located in the PDF directory on the CD-ROM.
DOS
Adobe Acrobat Reader
The DOS version of the Acrobat reader will need to be installed to your
harddrive. To install the reader, you will need to first copy the files
from the CD-ROM \pdf\viewers\dosview directory to a temporary directory
on your harddrive. Additional installation instructions can be found
in the install.txt file that was copied in the step above. Installation
requires 8 MB of harddrive space (5 MB which can be eliminated by removing
the temporary directory when installation is complete). Once installed you
will still need the CD-ROM to locate the Acrobat data files. Data files are
files with the extension .pdf and are located in the PDF directory on the
CD-ROM.
OTHER SYSTEMS (MAC/UNIX)
Adobe Acrobat readers have been provided for other systems as well. For more
information on choosing and setting up an Acrobat reader other than the ones
mentioned above, consult the file \pdf\viewers\install.txt file on the CD-ROM.
A complete list of all PDF files is available in the directory \pdf. The file
is called doclist.txt.
Installing Course Materials from the National Cyptologic School
---------------------------------------------------------------
Three Courses (located in the directory "\Courses" on the CD) have
been provided to see how Security issues are being taught at the
National Cyptologic School.
The courses included are:
IN150 - Introduction to Information System Security
IN170 - Introduction to Computer Security
OP301 - OPSEC Fundamentals for Managers & Supervisors
Install Options
As with the Glossary, these course materials can be viewed directly from the
CD-ROM or be installed to a hard drive.
RUNNING FROM CD-ROM (DOS only)
Changed to the directory \courses on the cd. ('cd d:\courses' if the CD-ROm reader
is drive 'd'.)
Type 'menu1', and follow the instructions on the screen.
INSTALLING TO A HARD DRIVE (Windows only)
When installing to a hard drive, you must have a minimum of 1 megabyte
available for the installation. The Course file will be copied to your
hard drive.
From the main Windows menu, choose File and then Run. Type 'd:\courses\install'
(where d is the drive letter of your CD-ROM device).
TIPS AND TRICKS FOR SETUP
For Abobe Acrobat and/or Glossary to operate successfully, the following may
be true:
SHARE.EXE must be active for the DOS version of Acrobat (add the line
c:\dos\share.exe) to the top of your autoexec.bat file. SHARE or VSHARE.386
must also be loaded for the Windows version to operate correctly. To load
VSHARE.386 add a line to the file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI in the [386ENH]
section similar to the following: DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VSHARE.386.
Be sure to copy VSHARE.386 to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.
A DOS environment variable must be available called TEMP. This variable must
point to an area on your harddrive where temporary files may be stored.
Under Windows NT, a error message may be displayed stating that the Acrobat
Reader "Could not find the file 'XXXX' (or one of its components). Make sure
the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available."
If this happens, click OK. The document being loaded will load correctly into
the reader. At the time of release, the reason for the error is unknown.

Uninstalling the Glossary
-------------------------
The Unified INFOSEC Glossary may be uninstalled by deleting the directory and
contents of the directiory that was created during installation. During
installation all files are copied to this directory only. Once the directory
is removed, delete the program group within Windows.
