DX BULLETIN 10 ARLD010
FROM ARRL HEADQUARTERS NEWINGTON CT
MARCH 1, 1991
RELAYED BY KB8NW/OBS & BARF-80 BBS
TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS
We wish Steve, W9NUF, with the Northern Illinois DX Association,
a speedy recovery after returning home yesterday from a stay in the
hospital. Since Steve could not write the DX bulletin this week,
we want to thank Paul, KB1BE, with the Connecticut DX Association
for the following DX information.
FROM THE DXCC DESK. Today, March 1, 1991 is the first day that
the 7O1AA and 7O8AA QSL cards will be accepted by the DXCC desk
for the new Yemen Republic. Many of the 7O8AA QSL cards were
shipped in packages at bulk rate. They were not accepted by the
Postal Service of France and have been returned. QSL managers in
France will have to individually stamp the envelopes and ship them
from France.
ETHIOPIA, ET. ET2A, Jack, is active daily on 21300 KHz around 1830
UTC operating both net and split operations. Also, check 28580 and
28600 KHz around 1900 UTC. Both Jack and second operator, Scott,
are Americans working with the Red Cross in Ethiopia. QSL via
Peter, WB2WOW.
BANGLADESH, S2. VK9NS, Jim Smith should be en route to
Dhaka shortly. He has permission for CW, SSB and RTTY and expects
to operate for two weeks after arriving late on March 10th. His
call sign will be either S21U or his requested call of S21JS.
QSL via VK9NS.
CAMEROON, TJ. TJ1BJ is now active on 75 meters on Saturday around
0500 UTC. Check for split operation on 3675 KHz and 3795 KHz.
Also, on Saturdays and Mondays, look for him around 1230 UTC on
21303 KHz. QSL via K4UTE.
CYPRUS, BRITISH SOVERIGN BASES, ZC4. Glynn, G4MVA is now stationed
here for the next two years. He will sign ZC4CZ on all bands with
emphasis on CW.
ARRL INTERNATIONAL DX PHONE CONTEST. Good Luck this weekend,
March 2 and 3, in the annual ARRL International DX PHONE Contest.
It runs a full 48 hours from 0000 UTC Saturday, March 2 until 2400
UTC on Sunday, March 3. Remember that the 10, 18 and 24 MHz bands
are excluded from the contest. Logs may be submitted on IBM
compatible, MS-DOS formatted diskettes, either 3.5 or 5.25 inch,
40 or 80 track. The log information must be in an ASCII file,
following the ARRL Suggested Standard File Format and containing all
log exchange information.
Good Luck on DX de KB8NW/OBS

To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
Have for sale several Narda/Loral Phase Locked Microwave Signal Sources.
Units utilize fundamental transistor oscillator with high Q coaxial cavity,
followed by broadband stable step recovery diode multiplier. Broadband
sampling circuits are used to phase lock oscillator to a high stability
reference which may be either an internal self contained crystal oscillator,
an external primary standard or VHF synthesizer.
Applications include free-running and phase-locked sources, modulatable
transmitter sources for voice and video applications and manually- or
automatically-tuned microwave synthesizers.
The size is approx. 3x3x4 inch. Runs at -20V. Output power on SMA-F
connector typ. 10-50mW which depends on frequency and configuration.
Asking $75.- per unit. For details and available frequency ranges

To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
I'm not sure if y'all have had the chance to see it, but the new CQ
publication "Communications Quarterly" is pretty neat. It's expensive
(the cover price is nearly $10/issue), but it is to come out every
three months, and it is jam-packed with technical information. At
least in the first issue, no fluff about contests, DX'ing, etc. and
a distinct lack of the "Build-your-own-whiz-bang-qrp-hf-rig" article
that appears every 2-3 months is all the other semi-tech rags.
Just thought I'd mention it. For everybody who always claimed "there's
no good technical magazine any more!" now there is one, though it's
a tad on the expensive side. From the first issue, it looks worth it.

Hello,
It has been awhile since I was active in hamming and I've been reading the
newsnet to pick up some tidbits, which has generated some questions too.
First, what is info-hams?
Second, what is the purpose of the different categories, some of which seem
to overlap? I subscribe to the following: rec.ham-radio
rec.radio.amateur.misc
rec.ham-radio.swap
rec.radio.swap
Are there others?
What exactly are the privileges granted the new no-code techs? I was under
the impression that this was going to be an operate only on 6m and above
type of license, but I think I read about someone operating in the HF bands
with one.
thanks,
eric

I'm interested in building a RTTY/FAX decoder from the ground up (less the
receiver). What I need is a good reference book on the various formats
currently being used. Nitty-gritty details such as common frequency shifts,
speeds, timing and sync information, etc. Any ideas?

The person that originally modified my TH77AT tore the trace on the negative
side of C124 completely off the board. Could someone please contact me
with a description of where this trace originally ran so I can run a jumper
to it? My schematic shows C132 and C133 connected closest to C124. I would
like a diagram or description of where 132 and 133 are so I can reconnect
the capacitor. The radio is currently working without this capacitor connect-
ed.
As I previously posted, I would also like to find out where the green jumper
wire should be attached to enable 400-512 RX and TX. I believe it runs from
IC10 to one side of C124 (yellow electrolytic).
Also, does anyone know if the service manual is available yet, and the cost?
Thank you,
Howard Atlas

Subject: Wanted DUPLEXER
To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
I am a new HAM and a member of the Northeastern Radio Club. We have a repeater
we are trying to get setup on 145.31
We are using two antennas about 100ft away from each other (at the far corners
of a rooftop on campus) and we are still experiencing desense and intermodulation
interference. We are looking for anyone who might have an extra 2m Duplexer.
We are operating on negative duplex. Once we remove the interference we will be
able to run 45watts instead of 2!
Any donations or information would be greatly appreciated!
Oh i should tell you that we are using two 2m radios not a repeater box.
Thanks in advance!

HI,
I am looking for a short wave receiver , that is portable. I have
looked at the Sony 2010 and the Grundig 500. I have also heard that
the Sony 2001 is almost the same as the Sony 2010, is that the case ?
Does the 2001 have the synchronous detector, are the specs the same
overall ?
Does anyone out there have one of these they are looking to
sell ? (Now that the war is over)
Thanks,
