Addendum to other README files #001
ENHANCEMENTS TO MORSEMAN
VERSION 1.0/1.01 - January 18, 1989
1.0 2> There was a bug in the random character generator mode. If you
try to increase speed to above around 20 wpm, there is a noticeable
delay between characters. This delay was intentionally placed in
the source code for a good separation between characters for beginners
and novices. This delay was supposed to be deactivated if the speed
was set above 18 wpm, but apparently the flag wouldn't set properly.
1.0 3> There is still a noticeable click in the characters being sent.
If you don't set the speed above 30 wpm or so, it isn't very bother-
some, but after that, it gets kind of annoying. I'll try and get
that worked out soon.
1.0 4> The speed setting is fairly accurate up to around 30 wpm, then
it gets a little off. I an working on an algorithm that will measure
speed between characters and will be accurate on all machines regard-
less of the microprocessor used. This will be implemented in the
next version.
1.0 5> In the tutor mode, if you try to exit to the main mode, you
will not be able to exit to it by hitting a <9>. If you are
running version 1.0 beta, then you will have to go to a mode and
then press <=> to get back to the main menu. If you are running
version 1.01 beta or 1.01, this problem has been solved.
----
VERSION 2.0 - March 24, 1989
2.0 1> The 256 character limit on text file creation has been removed.
Files of almost unlimited size may be created now.
2.0 2> A windowed operating environment has been added for ease of use.
2.0 3> Color modifications have been added to the operating enviroment.
Version 1.01 and before were in monochrome.
2.0 4> Characters may now be sent in BOTH lowercase and uppercase.
In previous versions, you had to be in uppercase for the program to
recognize the character.
2.0 5> A new introductory screen has been added, replacing the old
blinking text screen.
2.0 6> Ending signals (AR, BK, ect) has been added. See KEYBOARD mode
in manual for their keyboard representatives.
2.0 7> A spacing parameter has been added allowing the user to introduce
a variation in spacing between characters.
2.0 8> Error trapping has been introduced so users won't have to reboot
the program if an error occurs.
VERSION 2.01 - April 3, 1989
2.01 1> A bug (a very simple source code error on my behalf) was
discovered that would not print a "J" even after it sounded it.
That was corrected in version 2.01.
2.01 2> Another bug was discovered in the "text send" mode. It would
start a new line with each new word. That was corrected in version
2.01.
VERSION 2.1 - May 15, 1989
2.1 1> Different sounds were added for transfer between menus.
2.1 2> The DOS SHELL command was replaced in the "file send" mode.
The program no longer shells to retrieve file names. A major
improvement will be made in MORSEMAN PLUS that will not used
any type of SHELL or FILES commands.
2.1 3> Abort character created for the "create file" mode.
2.1 4> Different colors added to the menus. Options to change
colors will be added in MORSEMAN PLUS.
2.1 5> Error messages enhanced.
2.1 6> File creation environment enhanced with split screen operation
and new colors added.
VERSION 3.0 (beta) - June 1, 1989
3.0 1> CPU independent timing feature implemented.
3.0 2> New windowing environment introduced.
3.0 3> minor changes in intro screen brought in.
3.0 4> File creation/transmission environments windowed.
3.0 5> .CWT extension requirement on text files eliminated.
3.0 6> MorseMan Plus 2.01 released!
