  1. MSYS has grown to the point where it won't all fit on one disk. Beginning
  2. with version 1.12 there will be 2 disks. The first disk contains all of
  3. the files to create a basic MSYS system. This first disk will be called
  4. the Distribution Disk. The second disk, called the Optional Disk, contains
  5. a variety of files not necessary to get MSYS running in its basic modes.
  6. The Optional Disk contains, among other things, the complete documentation
  7. file, BBSLIST.DAT, and a number of MSYS related programs, including LFA
  8. (log file analyzer) programs written by others. The Optional Disk will be
  9. sent to those who have enough credit for two or more disks. Others will
  10. have to order it separately or get it from Cleveland Hamnet.

  12. These two files are available on Cleveland Hamnet for this version of MSYS:

  14.         MSYS112.EXE     The first distribution disk
  15.         MOPT112.EXE     The second distribution disk
  16.  
  17. Both files are self-extracting archives. To further conserve space, all
  18. the executable files on the disks have been compressed with the PKLITE
  19. utility. They may be run as usual directly from their compressed form.

  21. The WORDLIST.1 file on this disk is a sample from NO8M that may be used in
  22. conjunction with the new TEXT= hold function. You will probably want to
  23. edit it as you see fit.

  25. If you are currently running MSYS, to install the new version you need to
  26. at least replace your current version of MSYS and MUTIL with the new ones
  27. and then run MUTIL function 9. Check the dates of the new files compared
  28. with your files; those that are newer on the disk (most of the help files
  29. and MSYSMSGS.DAT [which must be in the HELP directory]) should probably be
  30. replaced as well.

  32. The documentation file MSYS112.DOC on the second disk has been
  33. updated to reflect all changes in this release.

  42. These prices include cost of disks, mailer and postage.

  44. All of these are US dollars. Foreign stations must send funds in US dollar
  45. cash, International Postal Money Orders in US dollars, or a check drawn on
  46. a US BANK. I don't take any credit cards (do you?) nor do I send disks
  47. COD.  If you send me disks and a self addressed stamped mailer I will send
  48. you only the version that is current when I receive your disks. I can't
  49. save such disks for future releases.

  51. There are about 155 pages in the MSYS112.DOC file this time. For those who
  52. want them, printed copies of the compelte MSYS documentation file
  53. MSYS112.DOC as found on the second disk are available for $30 (UPS brown
  54. to US addresses [$40 for second day air]) or $40 to non-US addresses
  55. (surface parcel post). The printed copies are good xerox copies of an
  56. original printed on a laser printer. They are unbound.

  59. MSYS runs well with DOS 5.0 on 286 and above machines. A combination of
  60. expanded memory (for MSYS's use, about half a meg) and extended memory
  61. (for loading DOS in high memory) will maximize memory availability on
  62. such systems. I still run MSYS on my laptop with only 640K ram. One port
  63. leave me with about 90K free. Thats without using any of the NOHEARD NONODE
  64. etc options. But if you want to run lots of everything at once you will
  65. need a bigger machine!

  67. Let me again suggest that those who download the software from Cleveland
  68. Hamnet consider making a contribution to it (care of WB8APD). And as 
  69. usual I always accept contributions as well! A lot of time and expense
  70. goes into working on this project.

  81. are connecting to will lower the traffic on the frequency.

  85.      Then the PacketCluster (tm) node will have to enter your call into his
  86. NODE.DAT with the following command:

  93.      This will allow the MSYS DX Node to exchange TALK, WWV, DX messages
  94. and initialization reports with PacketCluster (tm) and none of the other
  95. PC codes.
